  1. Lets hope Ryan Evans and Bruiser can continue to get much better........or Bo goes to a three-guard "O" with Jordan Taylor starting instead of Jarmuz....... This sucks.......I hope Leuer's wrist can heal fast!
  2. (Sunday) Tonights Bucks game vs. the Lakers......I got home at 9pm and turned it on and I am pretty sure they held the lakers in the 40's in the first half.....unfortunately, we only scored in the high 20's. Redd injured......Starters only had 9 points through 3 quarters. So needless to say, what an ugly game! Entertaining 4th quarter with all of the backups in......and they held Kobe to 12, including 3 of 20 shooting. I guess we shouldnt expect much out of this West Coast Swing.
  3. I just finished Third Down And a War TO GO - By Terry Frei I must say its one of the best, saddest books I have ever read. The book is the real life story of the 1942 Wisconsin Football team, which was very, very successful. It featured two first team all-americans (Elroy "Crazy Legs" Hirsch and Dave Schreiner) and only lost one game in ending the year ranked in the top 5. What makes this book great is that it follows several players as they were forced (most anyway) to give up college football for the war effort. Several players had great experiances, but many did not. Several did not make it..... Over 50 teammates served in the war effort, and when they returned in 1945, a few came home to play again. It is a very good book and I would recommend it to anyone. Great for sports fans. I read it in about three days, I just could not put it down.
  4. Not to beat a dead horse, but Tim Maymon's comments in today's Wisconsin State Journal are too great not to bring up. Everyone who likes both the Badgers and the Warriors will get a chuckle off his comments, including how "they will now watch Buzz lose every game" as if Marquette will now not win because Maymon is no longer attending MU. http://host.madison.com/sports/high-school/basketball/article_6c837f94-fae4-11de-82ad-001cc4c002e0.html Read the comments after words.....some interesting stories are starting to come out about this. Its all very sad, and I will say it again, I hope this kid gets as far away from his father as possible! Good luck UW and MU tonight!
  5. USCHO.com (who does the pairwise rankings to determine the tourney teams) put out the new national poll this week. Wisconsin is up to #4 in the nation!
  6. With several big tests in the Big Ten this season, by the end of it, Wisconsin will be a very good team. Remember a loss at a Michigan State or against Purdue will not hurt the RPI rankings.......and if they can knock off either one of these teams, perhaps our national ranking and respect will climb. We have to be carefull not to get too excited yet.....the schedule is very difficult over the next two weeks. If they do well in this time span, then we can really get excited.
  7. Badgers win their own holiday tourney! After going to the Merrimack game, I paid the $3 for the online broadcast of the Yale game, and UW played pretty well. I am still not sure we have played our best game though. The Badgers again started slowly, giving up the lead. Then they took all of the momentum and scored two unanswered goals, and completely dominated the majority of the game. Then a mental mistake with less than 3 mins to go in the third.......Craig Smith took an extremely bad penalty late in the third, and the following power play goal for Yale costs the Badgers the win. (In tournament play, a shootout win still counts as a tie in the national rankings) Smith is a great Freshman who allowed a team to "get under his skin." Too bad....but he will learn from this. If we can take care of small things, this team really could contest for the national title. We are missing three of our top players, and yet, are still very, very good. Stephan and Gardiner are great players (and Ramage is not bad himself for a freshman) and yet, without them, the Badgers seem to keep doing well. It gives us Badger fans high hopes.....Guys like Geoffrion (Sp?) and Davies are having great seasons, and our two goalies are both very good. Go Bucky!
  8. I agree that you have to feel bad for MU......those kids have worked very hard only to fall in the final minutes of each game. Too Bad.....MU fans need to keep positive and their team will improve and be much better next year. On to UW The Badgers look pretty darn good so far! Thats two games in a row that Leuer was in foul trouble (and sat almost the entire first half) and yet UW never seemed to slow down. Games at Michigan State (Wed) and Purdue next weekend are extremely tough, and a split would be awesome. The schedule is very difficult but as was stated earlier in this thread, in the Big Ten this year, anyone can win on any given night. Lets hope they can keep playing this way the entire season!
  9. The Badgers won the bowl game......ESPN showing Miami highlights and blaming the loss on the turf conditions......how about some love for Bucky?
  10. Hope tonight goes well.....hopefully your friends know when to cut you off and get you out of public.......and dont draw all over you with sharpies after you pass out!
  11. Agreed.....Bucks still holding on (against 5 players and 3 refs) by two at halftime.......But we have seen this before! I am sitting here shocked at how scary Delonte West really is......that guy has got to go on the top ten ugliest faces in sports!
  12. Watching the Bucks on ESPN against LeBron.....through 1, up 26-24. Milwaukee looks really good when they move the ball. But alas.....its the NBA, which pretty much makes me believe that we are doomed! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. I know most expensive softball bats come with a warning that the warranty is void if you use it with anything besides real softballs - i.e. in a cage. But this is a great topic....I too would love to know if that actually hurts a bats performance.
  14. I was reading the JSonline blogs this morning when I came across the following quote: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/79566672.html (This is the JSonline Golden Eagles Blog from 12/17/09) 'i've never read so many consecutive posts without a pissing match about something UW-Mad vs. MU related. WOW. Tim and Jeronne Maymon - bringing people together." For all of us who have been following this thread for the last few days, I hope that made you smile! There has been a lot of speculation about why Maymon walked. All of the blogs have turned to bashing his father, and asking for the kid to get away. Its sad.
  15. I agree TLB 100%. That story made me cringe!
  16. Point taken. Redd was not the primary defender of Kobe in that game. He frustrates me because for a guy who seems to be able to get his 20 at will, I just wish he could step up and stop someone. I love Charlie Bell, but I think all would agree that he in not going to stop Kobe in a game-winning situation.....If this team could gel this season, they have a nice core of players.....a good scorer (Redd), A high energy scorer/passer (Jennings), a true post player (Bogut), a stopper (LRMBAM), and a bunch of role players. If they dont gel, we are doomed to another year of sorrow. Its been a long time since the Bucks were a big deal in WI. Yahoo Sports reported yesterday that the Bucks fans chanted "Hennessy...Hennessy" when Artest shot free throws! Is this true? I had a laugh at that.
  17. I agree with all of your feeling of being cheated.....the NBA is disgusting. Stern is almost as crooked as Donaguy.......stuff like this I believe will lead Milwaukee to giving up its NBA franchise. I am also mad at how when Redd plays, Milwaukee continues to lose. He comes in, and yes, he did score 25. However, he took over 20 shots. Many more than the rest of his teammates. Jennings only had 11 shots, and it also takes away from Bogut's touches. That really gets me mad. When Redd was out, this team ran, Jennings scored and dropped numerous assists a game, and they had a winning record. Redd comes back and the Bucks freefall. But to make matters worse, Redd loves to take his chances guarding Kobe......which is a complete joke, because Redd couldnt D up his own benchwarmers. But since Redd loves a challenge, he somehow finds himslef guarding possibly his worse matchup in the NBA. Not cool. We need to make a move!
  18. JSonline and WSJonline are both full of theories and opinions today. You thought this thread was getting nasty, read some of the comments on those blogs....yikes! This whole story is pretty sad. The kid is talented. Sounds like when he was recruited, and promised "starting spots" and to be a star at some colleges, he really took this to heart. Maymon had already commented on how he believed he was not being used properly. This sucks for MU. This sucks for Buzz. This sucks for college hoops in Wisconsin.
  19. I will start. At my high school, a student gets cut from the hoops team. Why? Not for talent reasons.....female sophomore, 6'3", athletic. It was the committment level. Student shows up for one of the three mandetory tryout days. Then the student does not come back for day 4, the judgement day. When asked why, the student says "I dont know." Said student then is cut. Student makes comment to coaching staff that it is unrealistic and unfair that they should be forced to practice mon-fri after school. When asked what would be fair, the student said "practice once a week, and play games." Ugghh! One month later, the same student's parents come to practice, very upset. Why was their daughter just recently (in the last few days) cut? She had missed one day the previous week sick, which the parents didnt think was fair. They demand an immidiate meeting with the athletic director! They made it a point to get all of the coaches in the high school program in the meeting. Coach says to the parent......well, we have not seen your child at a practice or a game in the last four weeks. She skipped the last two days of tryouts and never came back. Parents response..... oh
  20. That really sucks. For MU, for hoops fans in Wisconsin.....for his pal Van. Now what will Blue do? I just called a big booster (a MU Lawyer, big season ticket booster) and he claims that Maymon was pissed about having to be in the post during most of their sets. Let the rumors begin.....this booster claims that Maymon wants to play for Bruce Pearl at Tennessee. I feel bad for Buzz.
  21. - Thanks! I had my all-star forwards mixed.
  22. Anyone else cringe when they kept showing the replay of Ridnour hyperextending his left elbow a few games ago? Tim Duncan (I think thats who) fell on him, and it was really, really bad. The TV guys compared it to Theisman on MNF in the 80's. I got the uggghhh feeling watching them show the replay about 5 times. He is having a great season, and watching him play after that injury is amazing!
  23. Hello esteemed Brew Crew Fans! We are fans of sports, this much is obvious. Some of us take it to the next level and play sports. Others take the challenge that is coaching. I have been coaching several sports over the last decade.....and coaching has its ups and downs. I love being a high school / american legion baseball coach. It is a great position. I have had the opportunity to coach other sports, and each presents its own rewards and challenges. In the spirt of coaching, please use this thread to share your best (and entertaining) coaching stories!
  24. I would also like to add that I think Buzz is doing one hell of a job recruiting and setting up the Warriors for their future. He has not let MU fall off like some expected! Buzz is really starting to build a great team around a lot of tallent. As a sports fan in Wisconsin, nothing to me would be better than both UW and MU kicking some year in and year out.
  25. I was also accepted into both schools, and chose UW. I dont hate MU. To each their own.....but badmouthing UW is just silly. It is a great school. Back to the Maymon stories, once again, nobody said they hate MU nor all UW athletes are great students. It was just a counterpoint to the statement comparing Dujuan Blair to Maymon. End of story. "having some guy on a messageboard imply an MU player is either learning disabled or used illeagal help to qualify really pisses me off." First off, you dont know Maymon personally so you need to check yourself. Some of us on here actually do. Second, I never knew being learing disabled is a bad thing.....read what you wrote. Thats a pretty low thing to say. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH A LEARNING DISABILITY! Now please, everyone back to their corners. Both schools are good, and the teams will be alright. Lets all get along!
