  1. I don't think any of the reporters asking him what happened are naive -- they're just doing their jobs. Since they hang around Ned (and every other manager in the majors) nearly every day, they probably know better than anyone that they're not going to get a very straight answer, but they wouldn't be doing their jobs as journalists if they didn't at least ask. If you get lucky, the manager spills the beans, but you'll most likely have to find someone willing to speak anonymously, like it looks like TH did ("someone who overheard" etc.). I totally understand they are doing their jobs. But their jobs are stupid in this case. Does even one of them really think someone is going to articulate exactly what happened and why and wherefore? Can anyone imagine getting a blow by description. I can see it now. "...and, and then Hardy got up in Prince's grill and calls him a big stupid face chumbawamba." Two people are fighting in public. Are you really gonna go ask them to explain themselves in public? Sometimes I just don't get the media. Okay it's a requirement to ask--I get it, but it still doesn't make it anything less than ridiculous.
  2. I've always had a favorite Brewer. Usually, some strange guy like Keshnik (sic) or Ron Theobald. But this year they don't seem like a very likable bunch. I guess I admire the guys who know the clock is ticking; you know the ones who next year are in trouble, who have lost value around the league. Guys like Gagne and Weeks. To know that your career is slumping into mediocrity, and to have millions watching your decline or self-destruction; that's pretty interesting and takes a lot of endurance on their part.
  3. The Brewers lack of discipline and professionalism at the plate has evidently overflowed into the dugout. While I don't like Yost at all, I kinda agree with him; it's nobody's business. You can ask, but if you seriously expect an answer you're pretty naive.
  4. I think what makes most sense is Escobar to 2nd and keep JJ at short. If the Brewers retain Fielder, a big if but lets pretend, then we need someone with extreme range to make up for Prince's...ah...shall we say anti-range. Other thoughts: If JJ keeps putting up 20 to 25 HRs and a .280 to .295 average he'll be a Brewer for the shortest term possible, which is a good reason to keep Escobar at Nashville as long as possible.
  5. I honestly never think about Cubs fans. Why is it worth my while? Nothing they do or say is of any value. I'm begging Brewer.net particpants not to mention the C word for the rest of the season. It simply doesn't matter.
  6. Team Sumo (my post-CC trade nickname for the Crew) has a great article on Fielder and CC. Anyone not too depressed needs to check it out. Bill Hall's astute observation may have saved us a first baseman.
  7. (making the sign of the cross) Bless you my son.
  8. Did cruz really get a chance? Serious question, I don't know. Might take a flyer on him. Maybe a DH in the AL?

  17. Geez...I like every thing about this guy. I wish 135 million would fall outta the sky!
  18. I'm flabbergasted. I can't imagine they'd do this. It would have to be an absolutely perfect fit trade wise. Hart is slumping though. But if this cost us anything in terms of significant minor leaguers I'd pass.
  19. I think that Gagne is doing the "McClung Thang". He's dialing back the fastball, spotting it better, and finding some success. It's hard on power pitchers, the poor dears, they usually can depend on stuff and don't have to use their brains. If and when they overcome this hurdle, success follows.
  20. Quite frankly I don't believe you guys. ESPN would never do that. Stop spreading rumors.
  21. I think Harden is an awesome pitcher who will do right by the Cubs until he gets hurt. As pointed out he is a big improvement on what they had and really solidifies the rotation. That being said, I do believe he will go down, and then the pressure could mount. I also think Brenly is right. A four game series at home is a huge deal for the home team. If the home team splits, which is more than likely in this case, the away team wins. If we win 3 of 4, the Cubs have every right to feel they are still in it, albeit down in the standings. But if the Cubs take 3 of 4, they can feel confident; they can out the Crew as pretenders and not contenders. Those are a lot of "ifs" I realize, but I understand where Brenly is coming from. I say we split with the Cubs though, 2-2. The only thing that bothers me about the series is that we are leading with our aces--that's bad. You want them backloaded if possible. Make the team fight tooth and nail early in the series, and then bring down the hammer at the end. If the Cubs manage to bump off one or god forbid both aces, the Crew could be 2 games outta first very quickly.
  22. I just don't think the Crew can be competitive next year. That's okay. It's cyclical. We're one of the two best teams in the National now, and there's no way to keep that going. On the list I like Dempster best. He's got plenty of miles left on his arm, the league has a .325 SLG percent against him. If I could get him for 12.5 million I'd go. But there's now way that cuts it. He'll probably get 15 to 18 mil. I like some of the old dudes if they take 2 year contracts, giving us sometimes to find a new number 1/2. It really is a rock and a hard place they're gonna be between.
  23. Good point Mickey!
  24. Believe it or not I think we got the better of that deal. Our crap didn't stink so much--only a lot, compared to something bigger and scarier than that. I wouldn't be surprised if Johnny was really the crap-god from the movie Dogma.
  25. I so think we can sweep the Astros if the hitters come around. 5-2. I'll be optimistic, what the hey.
