  1. IT'S CRAZY JOE DILLON!!! COME ON GUYS!!!
  2. I think it's absolutely essential that the Brewers do poorly enough early on, so that Mark can ride Yost out on a rail. I do not believe we have a chance with Nedly. I hold him responsible for the bullpen problems last year. His inability to use Wise and Turnbow correctly; his ridiculous idea of putting Villy in the pen when all the evidence said "starter." I also think he made a mistake by not designating a couple of guys innings eaters in the pen--possibly Vargas and Capuano. I think the Brewers need to do just the opposite of what they did last year. Go 10-24, fire Yost, hire a competent manager, and blaze a trail thru the NL the rest of the season nipping the Cubs at the wire. At that point they're the hottest team in the NL and pull off a Rockies scenario, so they can get killed by the Tigers in the World Series.
  3. I've always though that the pitcher and manager or pitching coach should be in wireless connectio, and that the manager or pitching coach should make all the calls. Calling a pitch falls under strategy and management should be responsible for that aspect of the game. Players should be responsible for execution only. Just MO
  4. 1. mets--consensus is the most powerful force in the universe, who am I to fight it 2. diamondbacks--haren is best sighning of the off season, young guys galore 3. rockies--pitching trumps hitting, and they got some offensive studs as well, that why.... 4. phillies--are 4th, offensive machine These are the contenders. Any of them could legitmately get to the world series. 5. dodgers--good balance 6. cubbies--only because they won the division, I suspect the Crew is better 7. brewers--starting piching tanks the crew, they gotta get significantly better here 8. reds--scary young talent, the new brewers These teams could sneak into the playoffs, but they're classic pretenders 9. padres--Peavy better be better than last year 10. barves--where are the old days? These two teams are the real disappointments teams of the new season 11 thru rest. who cares
  5. This is the kind of article I love; I mean absolutely love. It makes me laugh that deep from the belly laugh, and think about how stupid humanity really is. No wonder cockroaches will outlive humanity. Sure the Cubs are a slight fav to win the division again, but a threat to win the world series? The Cards winning the series used up all the "undeserving team takes it all" karma for at least another ten or twenty years. I say keep 'em coming Sun Times. You've got your finger on the pulse of the "Cosmic Black Humor" being. Thank you indeed.
  6. I don't like Brian at all. I like Bill at all. I want Davey to be good at all. I'm an devoted XMer, and Bill and Brian are better than 80 to 90 percent of the radio guys! That's saying something because radio usually need to be sharper. So even though i don't like Brian I must admit he does a very good job. Bring back Matt!
  7. I totally can see that Ennder, but could Davis plausibly be worse than Estrada? I mean, could we have traded Davis for say, the back up in Cleveland, guy's name is escaping me. And wouldn't we have been better off?
  8. I think this is really plausible. I also believe that with less work, Turnbow is gonna turn monster again. Once we realize how to use him he might rewrite the definition of filthy. Then when he leaves Milwaukee because he was treated so poorly by the fans, flipping us off will mean something. I can only hope. Brilliant stuff Bush.
  9. Well, no doubt it is proof that not all trades work out. Losing Davis really did hurt as we could've gotten more for him obviously. Fondy: that was just hilarious (largely unnoticed--BRAVO!)
  10. Just a question. I assume almost every team plays somewhat better at home than away. But hasn't it been true the last couple of years that the Crew has been especially bad on the road? You know, so bad that it's almost unusal? I get what you're saying about splits and it makes sense, but are there exceptions and are the Brewer road woes one of them? Thanks in advance for any help on this.
  11. Isn't this the equivalent of telling your fans, "hey, we're not serious about competing this year"?
  12. I think all this supposition only works if the salary structure of the game continues to rise in a gradual, relatively stable manner. But if salaries take a giant leap, like we've seen with .500 starting pitchers, the Brewers will once again be on the outside looking in. If Fielder was worth a 5 year 120 million dollar contract now (he's gotta be worth more than Carlos Lee), can we project out to 2011 and say, he'll be worth 5 years and 180 million dollars? Or will salaries spike and Prince will be worth a 5 year 260 million dollar contract or worse? I'm just very, very skeptical that any small market team can keep up in the salary race long term. Sure sometimes the stars align and small market teams can actually be competitive for a short while--but long term? I can't see it. I think he walks, and rightfully so. It's not his fault baseball is whacked. So lets trade him when he has max value; he should be worth a ton. Plus, isn't 2011 when the management/player agreement ends? There's gonna be a lot hell to pay come that time, and I'm not sure we won't be looking at a work stoppage. That could really complicate Fielder's future.
  13. I don't think Hanley or Jose is the real question for Brewer fans. I think it's Hanley or Fielder?
  14. I understand Bedard is a bit of a risk, but I was really hoping the crew would've gotten in on him. I think a package of prospects and major leaguers could've been put together that woulda blown Seattle's offer outta the water. I definitely would have overpaid for Bedard because if he was on the Crew I think you have to make them the favorite for the NL pennant.
  15. I think Gagne. If he succeeds, he's gonna net us some major draft choices again. Cameron will never give us that advantage. On the field though it's gotta be Cameron. Moving Braun is gonna be huge in my opinion, and Cameron is due for a good year at the plate, surrounded by hitters and playing in a slightly offensive positive stadium. But it could also be Kendall. Because I really believe he's just broken down. Munson is gonna spend a lot of time behind the plate. I'm guessing 75 games.
  16. I agree with everyone. Sometimes in baseball teams can get on a roll against splits, ie. home/away, night/day, divisional foes, etc. I think the Brewers would be best served to be a much tougher road team than in the past. Some early success here could propel them to a new "attitude" and some renewed confidence. Given that not making the playoff was a bitter pill for them (I'm assuming) trouncing the Cubs or taking 2 of 3 could really put them in a positive framework. Dumping the series wouldn't be the end of the world, but a good start is always a pleasure.
  17. Just to give a different perspective, not to really start anything, but I believe that Bud was not a good owner. I think there's reason to believe that he made a tidy profit (not that I begrudge him that) at the expensive of the team's competitiveness. I also think it would be much better for baseball and the city of Milwaukee if there were no baseball. Same for Minnesota, Oakland, maybe the Florida teams, Oakland, Kansas City, and Pittsburgh. If we could shut down those franchises then I think the competitiveness and health of the game would really improve. I also think that profits would be guarnteed and there would be less labor strife. We'd also get the benefit of dumping the plethora of marginal players who really drag down the overall quality of the sport. Of course this will never happen. We'll still need revenue sharing to put up the illusion of competitiveness or the occasional moment of competitiveness.. We'll still keep ripping off taxpayers to build new stadiums (Miller Park never should've been built). Oh...and I think there would be baseball in Milwaukee. It would make a great destination for a AAA team. Milwaukee is a lot like a AAAA player. Not really good enough for the bigs, but a killer minor leaguer. I think we should've relished that and pursued it as a community, rather than fool ourselves into thinking we're big league.
  18. I would think there's enough info on Villy to prove he should be a starter. This really disappoints me. I thought Melvin was smarter than that. I guess we all have blind spots. I doubly don't understand Melvin's comments based on what he said before about all the new aquisitions being able to go two innings at a time. it would seem the bullpen would need less of the converted starter/long inning kind of guys. All the Escobar talk reminds me of Melvin touting Rottino. I hope it's not that kind of "kiss of death". I'm really rooting for this kid. I hope he "fills out," gains strength, and becomes an all around offensive player to go with that slick glove.
  19. I'd opt for human growth hormone.
  20. I was pretty pessimistic about the Crew's chances until they moved Braun off of third. Now, I'm starting to think the other way. the reasons? 1. Improved defense. I assume we'll be better everywhere on the diamond except LF. Even subtle improvement by Hardy, Weeks, and Fielder should make us more solid and more confident. 2. My fav move of the off-season was the hiring of Simmons. He'll have Yost's ear, and in combination with what I assume is melvin's short leash (witness comments from Doug like, "yes, and each of the new bullpen acquistions can go two innings) might force Ned to improve. 3. We're so young that we'll naturally improve. 4. Depth. I've never see so much of it as a Brewer fan. It's gotta help over the rough spots. 5. Clubhouse leadership. I think Fielder wants to win really, really, badly. I think he's respected and he's gonna bring some guys along. Kendall will help here. Hart is another guy who impresses me that way. He doesn't always look smooth, but he puts his foot to the metal. I think number one is worth 2 or 3 games, while 2 thru 5 another 1 or 2 games. The only way that the Cubs are better now is if Fuku is a total stud. So right now I got the Brewers ekeing out the division title.
  21. And that I will pay to see!
  22. This has been true in the past, but these measurements have been recently updated. And still, though I could be wrong, Prince will come out obese. Your point about muscle mass is well taken, and certainly those individuals with such muscle mass are more capable of handling more fat. But just because someone has a lot of muscle doesn't mean they don't have a lot of fat as well. All of this discussion takes away from the real point. That one day Prince is going to have to pay the piper. Whether that happems before his playing days are over is what's important. I for one think he'll pay sooner rather than later. In any case, he won't be in a Brewer uniform when that day comes.
  23. Direct observation is research. It is the first rule of science, followed by measurement. Take his height and weight and create any stat you want, but he comes out fat, and probably worse--obese by any medical measure. In History direct observation is considered a primary source. What we find in book (names, stats, weight, etc.) is a secondary source and not as valuable. And take a look at his picture in the Journal today. Just look at the shape of the belt. It's gotta be an optical illusion I know.
  24. Fielder is gonna be a five to seven year god in my estimation, and that gives him a ton of value. He's the most valuable player on the team right now, and I love his attitude. He has a relish for the game that most players don't have nowadays and I respect him. But the guy is plain 'ol fat. And I love his fat right now--just not five or six years from now.
  25. He's short and he weighs a lot. Come one--some things are just common sense. Sometimes your eyes can see the truth. I know stats are valuable, but this guy is big and not just big-boned.
