  1. I wouldn't come to Milwaukee if I was Kearns given the situation. I'd just flat out refuse or I'd make myself a pariah in the clubhouse. No, we need minor league pitchers, and I love the idea of an almost ready reliever for next year. if we trade two of our starters and we net two viable pitchers, then draft six pitchers in the early rounds or four pitchers and two catchers, given that Jeffress and possibly Rogers are ahead of them we could restaock the minors.
  2. Fielder is fat. Eventually he will be super-fat. He is also a better player than Howard, but only because of his age. So, for now, fatter is better.
  3. I would be willing to move Fielder very soon. At the end of 2009 if LaPorta is ready. No way LaPorta is half the player Prince is, but in 2009, if he is still producing at a high level, and he is two years from unrestricted free agency, that's when I think he has maximum value. So, yes. I think for Milwaukee's sake, and his sake, he needs to leave in a situation that helps both sides.
  4. Luckily the Brewers don't have Brett Farve to personally screw up their entire season. I don't think they need the reverse psychology. My pick would be Hardy. I think his power will take a hike, and after more scutinizing people will begin to recognize him as very average defensive player. Plus, he's the team's pretty boy, and I'd just love to disappoint the groupies. Other than that--I'd guess Capuano. I really believe he has a chance to be much worse. I even think there's a chance he may never win another game in a Brewer uniform.
  5. One of the things that a club has to manage, especially with so many one year contracts, is the value of players relative to other teams. They have to maximize the value of players who are going to leave (for trade value, darft pick compensation) and minimize value for players with longer contracts. Of course this only works if all things else are equal; if one player is clearly outperforming another you gotta go with the producer. Example: I'd make Turnbow my set up man over Riske. The reason? Turnbow's gonna leave the team sooner than Riske. It would behoove the Brewers to allow or attempt to increase Turnbow's value as much as possible. Same thing could be said for Mota. If Mota could be featured somehow and he responds we could dump a salary and maybe get a little in return (as of right now I'd say he's close to worthless given his combination of performance and salary). I think the Gagne signing could be brilliant, in that I'm guessing he turns out to be a slightly above average closer, and when he leaves--bonus, cash in a draft choice for the cost of money only.
  6. I like the look of his frame--he's got that sinewy strength, a judo body. He reminds me of Yount in his movements. That combination of flexibility and strength I think bodes well for a long term career. I don't think the contract was a risk, but I do think it was totally unnecessary.
  7. Fielder has always struck me as being an intelligent honest young man. Based on those two attributes, my guess is that he has to leave Milwaukee. His future should be cut considerably by his body type, and he may only hit the jackpot once in his career. Plus, Milwaukee needs to be smart as well. Fielder is one fat-injury away from losing a lot of hie value. I'd maximize my return on him and stick LaPorta at first as soon as posssible.
  8. If I had my druthers I'd give Yost 8 starters, an extra catcher and one righty and one lefty pitch hitter. He couldn't possibly screw things up then, could he?
  9. my personal entertainment value: Triple 10 Home run 7 double 5 walk 3 HBP 2 steal 2 single1 inside the park homer 8 stealing home 9
  10. You know, none of our long term problems have been solved. We still need left-handed bats, relief pitchers (especially closer), catcher, centerfielder, etc. Every thing we've done is a stop gap measure--so be it, I think as a stop gap Melvin's done well, but we've got to still look ahead. Having said that, I'm for trading Capuano and Vargas. Bush to me is a perfect 5th starter. I will admit I'm a total Cappy-hater. All I see is Cylde Wright when I see Chris. I just don't see too many pitchers coming back from that much losing no matter how much of it is team-based or bad luck. I'd sell this guy before spring training. I don't want scouts looking at him, he's through; dump him for whatever. Having said all that, he does have some value because of previous production. I'd target the best minor league catchers and third basemen who are blocked at the major league level. I do the same with Vargas but wouldn't expect quite as much. Long term, we have to hope Parra can be a significant part of the rotation. If he has arm problems this year though, we've got to start thinking in terms of young starters who are available as well, which is a much harder nut to crack I imagine. All this seems pretty difficult, like juggling more than 3 balls, so again my solution is really go for it and package our extra pitching, Hall, and top-prospects for a picther good enough to top the staff or slot inbetween Sheets and Gallardo.
  11. What about Hall for Rolen (assuming these Cameron rumors have merit).
  12. I like Dillon and I like Rivera. I'd be the kind of manager that would carry three catchers if possible. I'm not comfortable with Rottino as I think he's a very bad player.
  13. I'd pee my pants if we could get Bedard for Hall and Villy. But I think it would take more. I'd throw Gamel and Vargas. TwoBrewers: I completely agree with you on Sheets. He's not nearly as good, and his injury history might (please notice I said might) be indicative of a guy who doesn't take his conditioning seriously.
  14. Hey, this is the fun of the forum. Here's an intelligent guy making a case that while implausible has merit theoretically. Bravo I say. P.S. Now buy me a beer. I got your back.
  15. Yeah--I would trade a young Pujos for a young Clemens.
  16. Yeah, but so does Braun going down in a heap ala Rowand when he kisses the leftfield wall next summer. I love the idea. Really creative, and recognizes the three most important things in baseball--pitching, pitching, and pitching. It'll never happen. Thing is, I think we could get more than just Cain.
  17. A Bill Hall--Hank Blalock platoon at 3rd base might put up some gaudy numbers.
  18. Yeah, I went back and looked at Blanton's number and you're probably right. I'll take, take-backs on that call. But I'd still trade one of the young guys plus a major prospect and SP for Haren, and then look for another quality pitcher and take my chances against the Cubs. It's the Cubs afterall. My point is, what if the Crew had four awesome starters with Braun and Fielder anchoring the offense.
  19. I'd do it if we had the ability to sign him to a long term deal, but we don't, so I wouldn't. I dream of the time when the Crew could trade Weeks, Parra, and Escobar for Haren, and then give him a 5 year 90 mil contract. Come to think of it, if we could get both I'd trade Weeks, Hardy, Hart, Bush, and Capuano. Then I'd sign Blanton to a 5 year 75 mil and Haren to above contract. That should sew up the division for 5 years.
  20. Is there a stupid person's explanation for this stat somewhere? Thanks in advance.
  21. Isn't he pretty brutal in the outfield?
  22. Geez, if I could get Ben for 12 mil a year, I'd sign him up for as long as possible, say 10 years! I really can't see Benny taking less than 15.
  23. Wow That's really interesting. I'm surprised he didn't get more--a lot more.
  24. Okay, I've got a single connection in baseball, but it's pretty high up and it is a relative--so I think he's shooting straight with me. He says that Milliedge is the single scariest dude in the National League. Yes, the kid's got tons of potential, but this guy's Milton Bradley Jr. in waiting. He's gonna alienate his teammates, stab his manager in the back, and generally tear up the clubhouse. Why have the Mets been trying so hard to dump this guy?
