  1. Uggla - .296/.377/.648, 23 homers, 24 doubles, OPS+ 168 (also 86 K's, if it weren't for all the doubles, I would say a possible mini-3TO) Utley - .291/.380/.600, 22 homers, OPS+ 149 (he already equaled his HR total from all of last year) I think those two are a pretty safe bet. Oddly enough, though, besides the homers, Utley is having a similar year to last year. His SLG is up, but his OBP is down.
  2. Do you realize what you just said? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  3. This sounds so familiar http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Honest question: is there really any reason that we would have to re-sign him? I just didn't know if he has some kind of trade clause where he could turn down a trade if the team can't give him a new contract. Otherwise he would be a rental and two draft picks. Anyway, I still wouldn't do it. I guess that's easy to say when McClung is *gulp* dominating and the rest of the staff is pitching well. But then again, if the staff wasn't doing that, we wouldn't be in any kind of position to be talking about Sabathia.
  4. At least in Oshkosh, it's on the normal FSN channel. You should be able to get it Jason. It doesn't show it on the guide because it's a WMLW broadcast, but they still put the game on.
  5. It was mostly a joke. I realize that it was only one play, but he looked beyond foolish on that pitch. I guess in my mind, if a guy looks so bad that he's accused of doing it on purpose, yet he's somehow innocent...he's got some problems.
  6. Actually, if I was the college coach, I would tell the kid not to show up because he's obviously not very good if he made that play. Maybe it's possible that he's innocent and he sucks. I still wouldn't want him.
  7. You know, I kinda like this thread. Is there any chance this whole thing about who was being civil and who was policing who and all that crap can be dropped so it doesn't get locked? Most of the stuff doesn't even have to do with Yost anymore.
  8. I'm gonna go ahead and place a vote for this. Very nice.
  9. Yeah, I'll hopefully be able to volunteer some time soon to help with the cleanup. Unfortunately I can't exactly get there right now because my car is totaled thanks to the flood.
  10. It's all that coffee. He takes the heat from the atmosphere and puts it in his coffee, knocks back 30 cups in an hour, and it immediately cools in his icewater veins.
  11. The "trade Prince talk" never really went away, and it probably won't go away unless he ditches Boras, plays better defense, and/or changes his body type. Quite honestly, I don't see him staying with the team past '09. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have him, but I don't think it will happen. This IRS thing will get put aside until he hits arbitration. If he has a major injury before then, I imagine the IRS will start chasing him a little, but assuming he's going to have a huge payday coming up in a year and a half, they'll find ways to leave him alone until then. I'm just waiting for another Cecil interview to come out so I can laugh at him as he explains how bad Prince is because he should "honor thy father". Shockingly, the Bible leaves out the part about "honor thy father's gambling addiction".
  12. That was some kind of weird stat about his record after having a lead of a few runs or less after 7 or 8 innings. Basically it was trying to determine how good he was during the times when a majority of his decisions are made. I'm not even sure what the result was, but it wasn't measured against other managers and there are way too many variables.
  13. No, I'm suggesting that this particular argument is circular. No one is going to win or lose it. Since you seem intent on winning it, you keep taking my posts and deciding what you think they should mean.
  14. I think someone posted some research earlier that showed a possible 6 game swing based on how good the manager is. In other words, really bad manager can lose you 3 extra games, really good manager can win you 3 extra games. Doesn't sound like much, but it could have been useful last year. If you read back 20 pages or so on this thread there was a previously a discussion on this, but I have no idea where it is.
  15. Like I said before, this is just going to go around in a circle. I'm going to say that if you want to give Yost credit for the good things, you have to give him blame for the bad. You're going to say that if you want to blame Yost for the bad things, you have to give him credit for the good. The point of my post was to show that it's just going to go around in a circle until we realize that we're saying the same thing from different sides of the argument.
  16. Since you don't know me and don't know how I evaluate people, I don't see how you can illustrate your point with that sentence. I liked Piniella back when I was younger and was less knowledgeable about baseball. I saw his teams win and I saw him argue with the umps a lot and throw things, so somewhere in my mind I decided that I thought he was cool. That opinion just naturally carried with me until I was able to properly evaluate him. The more I learn about baseball, the less I like him as a manager.
  17. This is where I have an issue with the other side of the "Topic of Ned." Why is it so difficult to put him in that sentence as well as the others mentioned? Obviously he has helped with McClung's development to this point. Because if the team is performing poorly, it's the players' fault and not Ned's. That's what we've been told. If Ned's job is to get credit when things go well and not get blamed when they go poorly, that's the greatest job in the world. I would probably do it for free.
  18. Yeah, I would rather keep Ned than hire Randolph. And that's saying something coming from me. Read a Mets fan forum sometime and you'll hear all the stuff that we say about Ned with a New York accent. If Ned is going to be knocked for last year's collapse, then I don't think Randolph is the answer. I do find it interesting that Ned and Randolph's quotes are almost exact copies during those collapses.
  19. I wasn't speaking directly at you BC. I've actually found your arguments about Piniella and Francona to be fairly solid. I know I've mentioned in this thread that I like Piniella, but the more I watch him the less I like him. That said, I was referring to many posts that I've seen that basically say we shouldn't fire him because we don't know if anyone else would be better. It's like sticking with a job that you don't like because it pays the bills, and you're afraid that if you quit you'll find another job that's even worse. It's not a denial of Yost's incompetence, but an unfortunate acceptance of average.
  20. I guess you could make some kind of argument that the younger player is in better shape or they're able to heal more quickly. I don't think that argument is really worth anything, but I would think Yo will be coming back more quickly than a 32 year old with the same injury. But that argument is offset by the fact that when you get an older player, you have a general idea what you're going to get regarding injuries. Barring a freak accident, we can all feel pretty confident that Suppan will stay healthy, but we couldn't say the same thing about a younger player that hasn't been playing long enough to know what his injury history will look like. Really, I think in most cases it comes out as a wash. With older players, you usually know what you're going to get. With young players, there's the potential to get better and be really good, but also the potential to bust. For a small market, young players are better for the Brewers because of the price tag, but if we were able to afford a year of 32 year old all-stars, I'm pretty sure I would be on-board. And with your example, I don't think there is any way in hell that I would turn down a .944 OPS CFer. I don't care how old he is.
  21. And I think you guys can look through the posts and note the several times that some of us have done just that. I think that his game management is noticeably improved this year, but he still does too many things that piss me off for me to want him to stay on as manager. Pre-emptively saying this doesn't make the other side's argument any less valid. Also, the reason I said the part that you quoted is because a common Yost defense lately has been "he's not that bad" and "there are worse managers out there." In my mind, I don't except that. If you think he's a good manager, then I leave you to your opinion, but I don't like hearing that it could be worse when it could also be better.
  22. At least in a press conference, I think Daffy would school Ned http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I don't think it's too hard to say that there are worse managers than Ned. But I think you also have to admit that he leaves much to be desired. So does that mean we should settle for halfway-decent and cross our fingers every year?
  23. No one has ever said that ERA and wins/losses are bad stats. What they have said is that depending on the stat, you need at least a certain sample size in order for it to be useful. Since you like wins as a stat, perhaps we could use it to show how Bush is a #2 starter based on his 12 wins in '06 and '07. I'm not quite sure what your post is implying.
  24. There are some ways to get around these things, depending on how it's blocked. I know that if I go to Brewerfan.net and click on the fan forum, it says it's blocked. But if I type the direct address in ( www.brewersfandemonium.yuku.com ), it works.
  25. Former safety for the Detroit Lions, Harry Colon.
