  1. And now, with the lead off double off of Burgos, the Threshers are in prime position to win. What a funny game this is.
  2. Sounds Swept Away By Storm Chasers, 5-3 04/24/2012 12:00 PM ET Nashville Sounds PAPILLION, Neb. - The Nashville Sounds' early-season woes continued on Tuesday afternoon at Werner Park as the club dropped its ninth straight game, a 5-3 defeat at the hands of the division-leading Omaha Storm Chasers in the finale of a four-game series. Nashville (4-16), which has been swept in consecutive four-game series by Oklahoma City and Omaha, has matched the longest losing streak in the franchise's Pacific Coast League era (1998-present) with its current nine-game skid. It was another close loss for the Sounds, who fell to 3-12 in contests decided by one or two runs this season. Omaha (15-5) -- which recorded its 10th straight home victory -- jumped out to an early lead, plating a run in the bottom of the first inning against Sounds starter Josh Butler. Jarrod Dyson (2-for-4) continued his solid series by leading off the frame with a triple off the right-center wall then scored when Irving Falu followed with a sacrifice fly to right. The Sounds evened the contest at 1-1 with a sac fly of their own in the top of the second. Erick Almonte led off the inning with a single to center off Omaha starter Mike Montgomery, moved to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a Taylor Green groundout, and raced home on Sean Halton's fly ball to center. Caleb Gindl gave the Sounds their first lead of the day at 2-1 when he led off the fourth with his third home run of the season, a solo shot to left off Montgomery. The Sounds tacked on another run later in the frame when Eric Farris plated Green with a two-out RBI double to left. Hainley Statia, who went 2-for-4 on the afternoon to account for Nashville's lone multi-hit effort, attempted to score a second run on the two-bagger but was gunned down at the plate for the final out of the frame by a relay from left fielder Terry Evans and shortstop Irving Falu. The Storm Chasers got a run back in the home half of the fourth on their second sacrifice fly of the afternoon, this one off the bat of Cody Clark, before pulling even in the fifth against Sounds reliever Amaury Rivas. Johnny Giovatella singled with one out and came around to score the tying run on Max Ramirez's two-out RBI double, knotting the score at 3-3. Omaha pulled ahead, 5-3, with a pair of runs against Victor Garate in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Garate induced a tailor-made double play grounder to shortstop from David Lough, but second baseman Brooks Conrad was unable to make the turn, fumbling the ball on the exchange to his throwing hand, allowing Falu to score the go-ahead run on the resulting fielder's choice. Kevin Kouzmanoff followed by dumping an RBI single into right to up the Chasers' lead to two. Left-hander Francisley Bueno worked a scoreless eighth for Omaha and retired the first batter of the ninth before ceding to right-hander Roman Colon, who picked up his first save of the year by recording the final two outs. Montgomery (2-0) picked up the victory with a quality start for Omaha, holding the Sounds to three runs on seven hits while fanning seven batters over his seven innings. Garate (0-3) was saddled with his third loss of the year for Nashville after being charged with two runs in his 1 1/3 frames of relief action. Butler worked a short outing and took a no-decision in his fourth start of the year for Nashville, lasting only three-plus innings and throwing just 50 pitches before departing in the top of the fourth frame. Sounds second baseman Brooks Conrad went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to five games, one short of the best effort by a Nashville player this season. Following a league-wide off day tomorrow, the Sounds continue their road trip on Thursday, when they open a four-game series in Des Moines, Iowa. Right-hander Wily Peralta (Rotation Savior) (0-1, 2.12) will rejoin the team and start Thursday's 6:35 p.m. series opener for Nashville. Iowa will counter with a yet-to-be-determined hurler. I will be back with my comments later tonight.
  3. Brevard's skid extends to five 04/23/2012 11:30 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees road woes continued on Monday night as they lost their fifth straight game of their current road trip by losing in 12 innings to the Clearwater Threshers by the score of 8-7 at Bright House Field. The loss dropped the Manatees below the .500 mark for the first time this season. Brevard County's southpaw starter Jed Bradley finally allowed an earned run as he gave up four earned runs - seven overall - in five innings of work. The 2011 first round pick gave up eight hits, walked just one and struck out five. The Manatees got on the board first, as Nick Shaw led the game off with a walk and was driven in by a Reggie Keen RBI double. Keen would move to third on a Cody Hawn ground out and then scored on a wild pitch to give Brevard a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the second, Clearwater scored three times and all of which were unearned runs. With one out and runners on first and second, Clearwater's Jeremy Barnes reached on a fielding error by the shortstop Shaw, which Anthony Hewitt scored on. Two batters later, Edgar Duran would clear the bases with a two-run triple to give the Threshers a 3-2 lead. The Manatees did get one run back in their next at-bat as Scott Krieger drove in T.J. Mittelstaedt to tie the game. Bradley ran into trouble again in the bottom of the third as he hit Brandon Tripp with a pitch with one out and then walked Jim Murphy to put to men on. Hewitt would bring them all home to give Clearwater a 6-3 lead, with a three-run homer to right field. Brevard County was able to tie the game up again at 6-6 after four and a half innings, but the Threshers took the lead back in the bottom of the fifth and Bradley's night would end. The Manatees would tie the game yet again in the top of the sixth and it started with a one-out double by Hawn. Mike Walker would single to put runners at the corners and then a ground out by Krieger scored Hawn and knotted the game at 7-7. Brevard County would only get one runner on base between the seventh and ninth innings as the game stretched into extra innings. Greg Holle and Alan Williams combined to throw five scoreless innings in relief of Bradley to stifle Clearwater. The 'Tees best chance to take the lead was the top of the 12th as Shea Vucinich and Adam Weisenburger's back-to-back one-out singles put two men on, but Franklin Romero Jr. and Shaw would strike out to end the Brevard County threat. In the bottom of the inning, Connor Whalen - who already worked a scoreless 11th - came out to face the Threshers in the 12th. He gave up back-to-back singles to lead off the inning and then walked Brandon Tripp to load the bases. Murphy then stepped up and singled to right to win it for the Threshers. While the 'Tees did rack up ten hits and draw seven walks, they went just 3-for-18 with runners in scoring position. Brevard County left 12 men on base and also struck out 13 times. Krieger and Weisenburger had two hits each, while Walker went 1-for-3 and reached three times via the walk. (More on this below) The Manatees will try and avoid a winless six-game road trip as they take on the Threshers in the series finale tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. Brevard County will send Hiram Burgos (0-0, 1.35) to the bump to try and stop their slump. Clearwater will counter with lefty Adam Morgan (0-1, 4.86). The Phillies selected Morgan in the third round of the 2011 draft out of the University of Alabama. Box Score I went to the Brewers game tonight so I did not see Jed Bradley's line until SessileFielder tweeted it. His start was early 2011 Grenike-esque. Obviously not Jed's best, but somewhat surprisingly, there were signs of effectiveness. He finished at 5 IP 8 H 7 R 4 ER 1 BB 5 K 1 HR 1 HBP 9:0 GO:FO. Chalk it up to him just being a little off and expect more of the very good Bradley in his next start. Folk rock band Holle and Williams (Greg and Alan) played the 5 innings after Bradley finished and were fantastic. It impresses me that the lefty Williams was able to go 3 full innings with such dominance. Connor Whalen allowed the walk-off. It was a group effort to score the 7 Manatee runs. T.J. Mittelstaedt (1-4 2B 2 BB) and Michael Walker (1-3 3 BB SB) showed plus plate discipline. Those boys each have impressive OBP's (Mittelstaedt .391, Walker .371) thus far. Walker's is particularly impressive because it is about 140 points above his batting average. Scott Kreiger and Adam Weisenburger each had 2 hits. Game Log After scoring in 5 of the first 6 innings, the Sea Cows were done. Brevard County Top of the 7th Adam Weisenburger flies out to center fielder Peter Lavin. Franklin Romero Jr. flies out to right fielder Anthony Hewitt. Nick Shaw flies out to center fielder Peter Lavin. Brevard County Top of the 8th Pitcher Change: Hector Neris replaces Juan Sosa. Reggie Keen flies out to center fielder Peter Lavin. T. J. Mittelstaedt strikes out swinging. Cody Hawn strikes out swinging. Brevard County Top of the 9th Michael Walker flies out to center fielder Peter Lavin. Scott Krieger flies out to right fielder Anthony Hewitt. Shea Vucinich hit by pitch. With Adam Weisenburger batting, Shea Vucinich steals (3) 2nd base. Adam Weisenburger called out on strikes. Brevard County Top of the 10th Pitcher Change: Jordan Whatcott replaces Hector Neris. Franklin Romero Jr. flies out to right fielder Anthony Hewitt. Nick Shaw grounds out, second baseman Albert Cartwright to first baseman Jim Murphy. Reggie Keen flies out to right fielder Anthony Hewitt. Brevard County Top of the 11th T. J. Mittelstaedt walks. Cody Hawn strikes out swinging. Michael Walker grounds into double play, shortstop Edgar Duran to first baseman Jim Murphy. T. Mittelstaedt out at 2nd. Brevard County Top of the 12th Scott Krieger grounds out, second baseman Albert Cartwright to first baseman Jim Murphy. Shea Vucinich singles on a line drive to center fielder Peter Lavin. Adam Weisenburger singles on a ground ball to right fielder Anthony Hewitt. Shea Vucinich to 2nd. Franklin Romero Jr. strikes out swinging. Nick Shaw called out on strikes.
  4. Sounds Suffer 8th Consecutive Loss, Fall 6-3 At Omaha 04/23/2012 10:53 PM ET Nashville Sounds PAPILLION, Neb. - The Nashville Sounds were unable to snap their skid on Monday evening at Werner Park, falling 6-3 to the division-leading Omaha Storm Chasers to suffer their eighth consecutive defeat. Nashville (4-15) has matched the worst start in club history, equaling the 4-15 mark achieved by the 2008 Sounds team. The Sounds went just 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position on the night, leaving 10 runners on base including five in scoring position. Second baseman Brooks Conrad continued his hot hitting for Nashville in the contest, going 3-for-4 and driving in two of the three Sounds runs on the night. The veteran is batting .393 (11-for-28) with three doubles, two home runs, six RBIs, and five runs scored in nine games since being activated from the disabled list. Omaha (14-5) grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second inning with three runs off Sounds starter Mark Rogers. Irving Falu put the home team on the board with a one-out, two-run single then Jarrod Dyson (3-for-5) later added an RBI single to make it a 3-0 contest. The Storm Chasers doubled their advantage in the fifth, batting around against Nashville reliever Brian Baker to plate three more runs to extend the lead to 6-0. Johnny Giovatella delivered the big blow of the frame, crushing a two-run homer to left with two outs for the infielder's third big fly of the year. Following the homer, Omaha's offense kept it going, loading the bases against Baker on a pair of singles and a walk to set the table for David Lough, who plated the inning's final tally with an RBI infield single. Right-hander Jim Henderson inherited a bases-loaded jam from Baker during the frame but struck out Kevin Kouzmanoff looking to leave all three runners stranded to minimize any further damage. The Sounds, who were held to a single hit through the first four innings by Storm Chasers left-hander Ryan Verdugo, finally broke through and got onto the scoreboard in the fifth when Edwin Maysonet drew a leadoff walk and later scored on the first of Conrad's two run-scoring hits of the night, an RBI single to left. Nashville got another run off the bat of Conrad in the seventh to pull within 6-2. Eric Farris led off with a single off Omaha reliever Ethan Hollingsworth then stole second before coming plateward on the veteran infielder's two-out double to left. The Sounds threatened again in the seventh, loading the bases with one out against Hollingsworth, but were only able to scratch out one run in the frame. With the bags full of Sounds following singles by Erick Almonte and Taylor Green then Martin Maldonado being hit by a pitch, Eric Farris delivered a line-drive RBI single to center to make it a 6-3 game. Hollingsworth recovered to induce a foul popout off the bat of Maysonet for the second out before left-hander Brandon Sisk was summoned from the Omaha bullpen to face Logan Schafer. After the Sounds center fielder hit a liner that landed just a matter of inches foul down in the right field corner, Sisk caught Schafer looking at a called third strike to escape the inning with no further damage. Sisk retired the Sounds in order in the ninth to lock down the victory for Omaha and claim his second save of the year. Verdugo (2-0) picked up the victory for Omaha by holding the Sounds to one run on three hits over five innings. Nashville was unable to capitalize on five walks drawn from the southpaw. Rogers (0-2) drew a loss for his second consecutive start for Nashville after allowing three runs on five hits over three innings of work, throwing 76 pitches. Henderson (2.1 scoreless IP) and Johnnie Lowe (2.0 scoreless IP) offered solid relief effort over the final innings for Nashville to keep the team within striking distance. The Sounds will look to avoid being swept for the second straight series when the teams wrap up the four-game set with an 11:05 a.m. finale on Tuesday morning. Right-hander Josh Butler (0-3, 4.40) will aim for his first victory of the year when he toes the rubber for the Sounds to face Omaha southpaw Mike Montgomery (0-1, 4.91). Box Score I'm guessing the Sounds did not want to have to use Johnnie Lowe tonight but the three pitchers before him were not efficient. The most interesting inefficient pitcher is Mark Rogers. Final line: 3 IP 5 H 3 R 3 ER 2 BB 1 K 3:4 GO:FO 76 Pitches 42 Strikes (55.3%). Mark was so magical in 2010. In 10 MLB innings, he gave up 2 hits and struck out 11. If we had anybody that could fill his spot in the rotation now, I would be in favor of converting him to a reliever immediately. Hopefully he can turn it around a little bit as he stretches out. If anybody besides Alex Gonzalez gets hurt, the first call up will likely be Brooks Conrad. A walk and three more hits for him tonight, including a 2B. Taylor Green was 1-3 with a BB. Eric Farris had 2 hits and his 4th steal. Martin Maldonado picked off a Royal at 1B as part of a clean sheet for the D. Game Log Mark's bad inning. Omaha Bottom of the 2nd Max Ramirez singles on a line drive to left fielder Eric Farris. David Lough doubles (2) on a line drive to left fielder Eric Farris. Max Ramirez to 3rd. Kevin Kouzmanoff lines out to second baseman Brooks Conrad. Irving Falu singles on a line drive to right fielder Caleb Gindl. Max Ramirez scores. David Lough scores. With Anthony Seratelli batting, Irving Falu steals (4) 2nd base. Anthony Seratelli walks. Jarrod Dyson singles on a line drive to left fielder Eric Farris. Irving Falu scores. Anthony Seratelli to 2nd. Johnny Giavotella grounds into a force out, fielded by third baseman Erick Almonte. Anthony Seratelli out at 3rd. Jarrod Dyson to 2nd. Johnny Giavotella to 1st. Tony Abreu flies out to center fielder Logan Schafer. There are a few more big innings to check out. Have fun! Gameday
  5. Dang, Huntsville nicked up Taijun Walker a little bit. Hunter Morris even went yard! Every 2-3 years I hear about a Dwight Gooden clone. Walker is the latest in a long line of "Docs". That isnt a shot at Walker by any means. He was a Suppy pick in 2010. We chose Dylan Covey about 20 spots before Walker went.
  6. Sounds' Losing Skid Hits Seven With 2-1 Loss In Omaha 04/22/2012 5:46 PM ET Nashville Sounds PAPILLION, Neb. - Starting pitcher Nate Adcock tossed eight innings of one-run ball as the division-rival Omaha Storm Chasers handed the Nashville Sounds a 2-1 defeat on Sunday afternoon at Werner Park. The loss was the Sounds' seventh in a row and the club's longest since dropping nine straight contests from May 2-10 last season. The Sounds' 4-14 start is the 2nd-worst in club history through 18 games of action. Fourteen of the Sounds' 18 games have been decided by one or two runs (3-11 in those contests). Nashville's lone run came in the opening frame as designated hitter Brooks Conrad (Audio) hit a deep homer to right field, his second of the season. The home run was Nashville's second long ball hit in the opening frame in consecutive days. The Storm Chasers quickly knotted the game in the home half of the first as leadoff hitter Jarrod Dyson began the game with a stand-up triple. He scored two pitches later on a Johnny Giavotella sacrifice fly. Nashville starter Seth McClung kept the Omaha offense in check until the bottom of the seventh inning when Terry Evans and Ryan Eigsti had consecutive base hits to remove him from the contest. On the next play after reliever Victor Garate entered the game, Omaha executed a safety squeeze as Dyson laid down a perfectly placed bunt single that allowed Evans to score the go-ahead run. McClung (0-2) pitched well but took the hard-luck loss while tossing Nashville's sixth quality start of the season. The veteran right-hander surrendered two runs on six hits while striking out five in 6 1/3 innings. Garate finished the game with 1 2/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts while allowing one of two inherited runners to score. Brandon Sisk fanned one in a perfect ninth for his first save of the season. The Sounds and Storm Chasers will play the third game of a four-game set at 6:35 pm CT at Werner Park on Monday evening. Sounds right-hander Mark Rogers (0-1, 6.00) will toe the rubber for the second time this season to face Omaha southpaw Ryan Verdugo (1-0, 5.11). Box Score Well, the Sounds were shut down by Nathan Adock. The only blemish for Adock was a Brooks Conrad solo shot. Logan Schafer and Sean Halton had hits. Edwin Maysonet had a hit and a walk. Seth McClung started and was pretty good: 6 1/3 IP 6 H 2 R 2 ER 1 BB 5 K. Former Sound Wily Peralta's departure sure has weakened this Nashville staff. Luckily for Sounds fans, it is looking likely that he returns once Loe is back. He was pumping mid-90's today in the 9th. He absolutely handcuffed Tulowitzki to get out of a jam. Game Log After this, it seemed like the Sounds O took a Jon Jones kick to the face. Nashville Top of the 1st Logan Schafer grounds out, shortstop Tony Abreu to first baseman Clint Robinson. Brooks Conrad homers (2) on a fly ball to right field. Caleb Gindl called out on strikes. Sean Halton grounds out, third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff to first baseman Clint Robinson. Gameday
  7. Clearwater (Phillies) 4 Brevard County 2 Box Score Jimmy Nelson started for the Manatees and did not have his best game. Final line: 6 IP 6 H 3 R 3 ER 3 BB 4 K 1 HBP 9:3 GO:FO. The theme for his runs allowed were walks. Jimmy has displayed improved control thus far but this game was much like what we saw in 2011 from the big righty. Wild Thomas Keeling pitched next and breezed through his first inning before getting stuck in the 8th. Casey Medlen stranded a Keeling runner. Second base 2-hitter T.J. Mittelstaedt had 2 more hits including a 2B. Reggie Keen was 1-3 with a BB out of the lead off spot. Shawn Zarraga hit a 2B. I really have to stretch sometimes for the BC offense. Tonight, Phillie pup Austin Wright was fantastic. The 6'4" southpaw former Mississippi Bulldog is off to a fantastic start to his career. No errors for the 'Tees. Game Log Nothing like a free out to lead off a lost big inning. Brevard County Top of the 5th Shawn Zarraga bunt grounds out, catcher Cameron Rupp to first baseman Jim Murphy. Scott Krieger singles on a line drive to left fielder Brandon Tripp. Shea Vucinich walks. Scott Krieger to 2nd. With Franklin Romero Jr. batting, Scott Krieger steals (2) 3rd base. Shea Vucinich steals (2) 2nd base. Franklin Romero Jr. strikes out swinging. Reggie Keen walks. T. J. Mittelstaedt singles on a ground ball to right fielder Anthony Hewitt. Scott Krieger scores. Shea Vucinich scores. Reggie Keen to 3rd. T. Mittelstaedt to 2nd on the throw. Cody Hawn grounds out to first baseman Jim Murphy.
  8. Dunedin (Jays) 3 Brevard County 2 Box Score Not much to talk about on offense for the Sea Cows so I want to highlight Franklin Romero Jr. Over the last 5 games, Franklin is 7-17 (.412) with 2 2B 1 3B 2:1 BB:K and 3 SB all in the 9 hole. His season OBP is .341 which is roughly 100 points higher than his career on-base average. Although the 'new' Romero Jr. likely will not last, we can still appreciate his improved start in 2012. Kudos, Franklin. Platoon catcher Adam Weisenburger had 2 hits. T.J. Mittelstaedt forced in a run with a BB. RHP Taylor Jungmann started for the 4th time of his career tonight and again was not overwhelming but signs of good pitching are there. His line tonight: 5 IP 3 H 3 R 2 ER 2 BB 4 K 1 WP 7:2 GO:FO. The start bumped his season ERA to 3.18. RHP Greg Holle (2 IP) and LHP Alan Williams (1 IP 2 K) went Humber over the final 3 innings. Game Log One to follow Dunedin Bottom of the 8th Pitcher Change: Alan Williams replaces Greg Holle. Ryan Schimpf called out on strikes. Jake Marisnick pops out to first baseman Cody Hawn in foul territory. Jonathan Jones called out on strikes.
  9. I love how he always prefaces his velocity report. Finally, I am a maven! Thanks Mr. Mehring. Keep them coming.
  10. No, I did not forget. Peralta matches him in stuff easily. The durability reports blow Parra away. Parra was always a huge injury risk.
  11. Brewers had nowhere near a playoff caliber team in 2007 and Yo and Parra were both better prospects than Peralta is though Parra got derailed by injuries. No way was Parra better. At least not clearly better. I'd say they are comparable in most ways. Yo just made everything look easy in the minors.
  12. Oklahoma City (Astros) 2 Nashville 1 Box Score Michael Fiers made the emergency start on short rest. He fared well considering. 5 IP 5 H 2 R 2 ER 1 BB 3 K 1 WP 6:4 GO:FO on 74 pitches (54 strikes). Johnnie Lowe and Juan Sanchez shut the AAA Astros down for the final 4 innings. Astros starter Henry Sosa was the story as the Sounds managed just 5 hits. Sosa has been toiling around the league since 2006, mostly in the minors. The disappointed Taylor Green went 1-4 with a 2B. Brooks Conrad matched Green. Sean Halton paced with a 2-3 night and the 9th inning RBI, his 7th on the year. Corey Patterson was picked off. The Sounds are really not scoring many runs right now. Game Log Not much context here, but Taylor is not known for his wheels. Nashville Bottom of the 4th Edwin Maysonet grounds out, third baseman Brian Bixler to first baseman Brett Wallace. Brooks Conrad flies out to center fielder Justin Ruggiano. Taylor Green doubles (2) on a line drive to center fielder Justin Ruggiano. Sean Halton singles on a ground ball to shortstop Angel Sanchez. Taylor Green to 3rd. Martin Maldonado strikes out swinging. Gameday
  13. Dunedin (Jays) 11 Brevard County 4 Box Score A close game until late. Austin Ross started but lasted only 8 batters. The game story should shed some light on that. Brian Garman came in and was decent until his final inning. Connor Whalen allowed 3 Garman runs to score upon entry. The game was lost with Eric Arnett's arrival. After giving up a run in his first inning, Arnett imploded (no thanks to the D) in the 8th. Final line: 1 2/3 IP 3 H 6 R 2 ER 3 BB 0 K 1 WP 2:3 GO:FO. Thomas Keeling came in for Arnett and K'ed the final Dunedin hitter of the night. 5 errors for the prestigious Sea Cow D tonight including 3 for Nick Shaw (1-5). T.J. Mittelstaedt (2-5 3 K) had an assist. Franklin Romero Jr. (2-2 2B 2 BB SB) was the offensive star. Cody Hawn (2-4 2B) and Mike Walker (2-4) produced. Game Log Arnett's follies Dunedin Bottom of the 7th Pitcher Change: Eric Arnett replaces Connor Whalen. Kevin Nolan singles on a ground ball to shortstop Nick Shaw. Kevin Nolan advances to 2nd, on throwing error by shortstop Nick Shaw. Jon Talley flies out to left fielder T. Mittelstaedt. Kevin Nolan to 3rd. Michael Crouse out on a sacrifice fly to left fielder T. J. Mittelstaedt. Kevin Nolan scores. Kenen Bailli reaches on fielding error by shortstop Nick Shaw. With Kevin Ahrens batting, Kenen Bailli caught stealing 2nd base, catcher Shawn Zarraga to second baseman Shea Vucinich. Dunedin Bottom of the 8th Kevin Ahrens reaches on fielding error by third baseman Michael Walker. With Jack Murphy batting, wild pitch by Eric Arnett, Kevin Ahrens to 2nd. Jack Murphy walks. Jake Marisnick walks. Kevin Ahrens to 3rd. Jack Murphy to 2nd. Ryan Schimpf triples (1) on a fly ball to right fielder Miguel Velazquez. Kevin Ahrens scores. Jack Murphy scores. Jake Marisnick scores. Marcus Knecht flies out to right fielder Miguel Velazquez. Kevin Nolan pops out to second baseman Shea Vucinich. Jon Talley walks. Michael Crouse doubles (3) on a fly ball to left fielder T. J. Mittelstaedt. Ryan Schimpf scores. Jon Talley scores. Pitcher Change: Thomas Keeling replaces Eric Arnett. Kenen Bailli strikes out swinging.
  14. Austin Ross left his start in the middle of the 2nd after a GB out to the 2B. Two thoughts: 1. Injured on a comebacker. 2. Some sort of crazy Narveson chain reaction. Edit: Eric Arnett enters late in the BC game.
  15. It shows Fiers in the box score for Nashville. Not sure if that is official or not.

  17. I think you have to take the reports at face value while still trying to account for context. SessileFielder reports Goforth hit 97. 1. He only 'hit' it. He was not sitting 97. 2. That is a stadium gun reading at Time Warner Field. We think that gun is a tick or three fast. The biggest mistake you could make is programming yourself to expect a solid 97 out of Goforth on each pitch. Regarding Greinke, I don't think there is anything false about those reports. He hit 95 just the other night. Considering the limited effort in his delivery, I bet he has no problem pumping it up a few extra ticks if he wanted to show off. Now I doubt he can sit 97-98 and that is why indicating if a pitcher is 'hitting' or 'sitting' is so important for our purposes here. There is nothing skewed about the readings (especially when we have the proper context), it is your expectations after learning about the readings that is skewed.
  18. Oklahoma City (Astros) 4 Nashville 2 Box Score Brian Baker started and was good if not dominant at times. Final line: 6 IP 3 H 2 R 2 ER 2 BB 5 K 1 HR 9:1 GO:FO. He recorded all 5 K in the first 2 innings. Victor Garate could not keep it tied in the 7th despite striking out the side. Erick Almonte got the start at 3B. Taylor Green (2-3 K) played 1B. Logan Schafer (3-4 2B 1 CS) set the table. Eric Farris walked twice and Corey Patterson went yard. The Sounds are struggling to score runs right now. Game Log Good Baker Okla. City Top of the 1st J. J. B. Shuck singles on a ground ball to left fielder Edwin Maysonet. Carlos Corporan scores. Diory Hernandez grounds out, shortstop Eric Farris to first baseman Taylor Green. J. B. Shuck to 2nd. Fernando Martinez grounds out, first baseman Taylor Green to pitcher Brian Baker. Gameday
  19. To get an idea of how favorable the FSL is to pitchers, check out this page. Brevard has a middling OPS (.639) but is last in OBP (.295). Dunedin is the clear offensive force in the league. We will play them the next two nights and recently completed a 3 game series with them. I would guess our pitchers have fared the best so far seeing as how I cannot remember a bad start from an A+ pitcher.
  20. Dunedin (Jays) 5 Brevard County 4 Box Score Fresh off a tremendous outing against Dunedin in his last start, Hiram Burgos was good again tonight. 5 2/3 IP 3 H 2 R 2 ER 1 BB 7 K 1 HBP 7:3 GO:FO. Wild Thomas Keeling was next. He walked his first man of the year and put up a crooked number (2 ER) in the runs column in just 2/3 of an inning. Greg Holle (1 2/3 IP 2 K 3:0 GO:FO) came in and bailed out Keeling from further damage in the 7th by stranding two of his runners. Nine hitter Frankin Romero Jr. was the 9th inning hero with a 2-run 3B to tie it. Unfortunately, Dunedin walked off in the bottom half nicking up Casey Medlen in the process. It was a group effort for the Manatee hitters. Daily mentions Nick Shaw (2-4 BB) and T.J. Mittelstaedt (1-2 3 BB) were very productive. Slumpers Cody Hawn (2-5 2B) and Michael Walker (1-3 BB) made some noise. Miguel Velazquez hit a 2B. And super slumper Scott Kreiger went off (2-3 2B BB). Two Manatee runners were cut down at the plate not including Romero in the 9th and another clean sheet for the D. Game Log Okay, Hiram. Dunedin Bottom of the 5th Ryan Schimpf called out on strikes.
