  1. Bortolini is likely the #2 center - he played center in two games last year when they were short on healthy bodies. Lyles was beat out by another highly-regarded 4-star recruit, so I don't know that I would classify him as not being "starting quality Big Ten player". It was so close in camp that they rotated him in early in the season. I really do think that the injuries have hampered his development and if two guys are fairly equal, you go with the guy you know is going to be available and not the guy who may or may not be. Consistency on the O-line is important.
  2. You're not doing well with your Badgers predictions this year...
  3. Kaden Lyles in the transfer portal. Understand that one, he has one year of eligibility left and had gotten beat out for the starting job. I think his injury history and occasional unknown availability played a part in him not being the starter. For some reason the thought seems to be the earlier you get in the portal the better the chance you'll get to a good school. I don't know about that.
  4. They don't know yet if he has tested positive or was just in close contact with someone who has. They have confirmed that Adams is fully vaccinated, so he just has to have two negative tests this week in order to play on Thursday night.
  5. Every year that the Brewers have made the playoffs they have lost to a team that made the World Series, and so far 1981 and 2018 are the only years that the Brewers didn't lose to the eventual World Series champion.
  6. Can they go back to Jack Dunn as the punt returner?
  7. Is John Chenal hurt? Not sure why at the 1-yard line they were running single backs. The FB dive is their best short yardage play.
  8. Assuming that Garcia declines his option, the best fit is going to be a young-ish OF who can play RF next year or be ready to step in in 2023 when Cain, Garcia, and likely JBJ will be gone. Maybe a 2B to step in in 2023 for Wong, but the Brewers have plenty of IF depth coming up in the minors. Because of that, I don't think the Rays are a good partner. Maybe Jordan Luplow as a backup OF/1B who can spell Tellez against tough LHP; he's under control through 2024. Not the big bat they need, but probably not an expensive acquisition either. Maybe they need another bullpen arm. Reacquire Feyereisen? I don't think that Brandon Lowe is out of the question if they think he can play RF for a year, then move back to 2B in 2023. But he hits LH and they could probably use a RHH to replace Garcia. They have enough LHH between Yelich, Tellez, Narvaez, and Wong.
  9. I think Turang is much more likely to be traded in any significant deal than Mitchell. After this season Cain and Garcia will be free agents (it's likely that Garcia declines his option this offseason)and JBJ will likely be gone too, leaving only Taylor and Yelich as OFs on the roster. They will have three OF spots to fill and Mitchell is closest to the majors of their OF prospects with any chance to be ready in 2023. They have Adames under control through 2025 with Hamilton, Zamora, Garcia, and Chourio behind Turang for org SS depth.
  10. Houser/Lauer, because of their age, would need to go to a contender or verge-of-contending team in a strength-for-strength swap. You can bet that any deal will include a SS as they have plenty of depth (Turang, Hamilton, Zamora, Garcia) to deal from. Interesting call on Marte... but both BR and FG have him as negative defensive WAR which isn't the Brewers MO, unless they feel like he would be a better defender in RF. Having missed almost half of 2021 due to injury should lower his trade value. Maybe the Brewers can throw in an extra prospect + some cash and include JBJ in the trade.
  11. I had no idea until today that is Brett Favre in the bathtub: It does not sound like him at all.
  12. And in the last couple of years Army has taken both Oklahoma and Michigan to overtime. Ask their fans if they want to play Army again.
  13. Lots of hot takes the first two pages of this thread.
  14. So they should start a guy who has four INTs and three sacks in 20 career pass attempts? Army has the #4 ranked rush defense in the country and that's after giving up 198 yards rushing to WI. They have the 39th ranked passing defense in the country and Andre Carter is 4th in the nation in sacks. And they have the #2 ranked rushing offense in the country. I think some people underestimate how good Army is.
  15. Furtney now in the game at RT for Bortolini.
  16. They have almost as many yards passing as they have rushing in the first half. And their right tackle isn't doing them any favors this game in pass protection, so I wouldn't pass much either.
  17. Alabama losing to Texas A&M makes it wide open. If Alabama beats Georgia and your only unbeatens are Cincinnati and one of Oklahoma/Oklahoma State, anything can happen. I have a bad feeling that this is going to be the year that becomes the poster child for expanding the playoffs where you have Cincinnati as one of two unbeatens and then ten schools with one loss.
  18. Penn State beats Wisconsin Iowa beats Penn State Purdue beats Iowa Minnesota beats Purdue Bowling Green beats Minnesota I can't figure it out, but Iowa pooping the bed against Purdue make the Big Ten West wide open again.
  19. If he really wants to leave you agree to grant the Mets permission to talk with him in exchange for trading Yelich and JBJ for JD Davis and Brandon Nimmo. A bit facetious, but I do think they can leverage that situation and solve some of their offensive and salary problems.
  20. It's ironic that the positions that they spent the most money on (OF, 2B) were the positions that killed them in the series.
  21. And finding good pitching is the hard part. Finding bats is (relatively) easier. We saw this coming from before the season. They built the team on run prevention, not run scoring.
  22. How is that on Hader?
  23. Rodgers made a comment about "make sure we're giving him laces every time", so it appears there were some consistency issues. They do have a new holder who came in late in camp, and they've had some protection issues too.
  24. According to several very reliable sources, Berger on multiple occasions was not meeting team expectations and was given ample opportunity to correct that and finally enough was enough. Berger is a very quiet and introverted person. The last thing he would do is "speak his piece". It was his behavior, not his voice.
