  1. With the top end of the bullpen unavailable, this might be a “take one for the club” concession game. Need to save the better long relievers to cover for Anderson tomorrow. I’m guessing we’ll be seeing Weigel before Richards. Weigel's on a plane to Nashville, so, no.
  2. Gutierrez has been nothing special in the minors. Lots of innings to catch up, and the Reds bullpen is stressed after yesterday.
  3. This year with RISP his OPS-A is 1.009, so yes, that's not far from the truth. With the bottom of the lineup up, I think you stick with Houser.
  4. Was he trying to beat the shift or was it a legit sacrifice? Gameday has two sacrifice bunts to move runners over to 2nd, one by Shaw and one by India. Seemed strange - was India trying to beat the shift too?
  5. The Packers can accomplish both improving communication with Rodgers and fining him to show the other players it's about doing it the right way. And that way is to tell Rodgers the above privately and tactfully before levying the fine. Rodgers said it's about communication, character, and culture. You communicate privately with Rodgers and tell them the fine is about the character and culture here, they will have a character and culture problem if they don't do it, and in the spirit of improved communication they are communicating this before they do it. Give Rodgers a heads-up and then give him the choice. If not a win-win, it at least avoids a lose-lose.
  6. Perhaps if the price was cheap enough, but he's been a guy who is seemingly perpetually available every year, and Stearns hasn't bit so far, despite an obvious fit. Something in the back of my mind is telling me that Stearns isn't a fan. Of course, this is 100% speculation. But he's the type of guy that if Stearns really liked him, he probably would be (or would have already been) a Brewer. Yeah maybe he wants to swing for guys that still have upside? If that's the case then Boston's Michael Chavis might be appealing. He's in AAA now but can play multiple positions. Former top 100 prospect. Might need a change of scenery. He's a big K guy so maybe it wouldn't work out and I'm not advocating they get him but he might be a guy Stearns' targets. I think Stearns has said in the past that he likes to trade for players who still have another year or two of control, and Cabrera has been on one year deals or the last year of his contract for the past four seasons. But I agree, the Brewers could solve a lot of problems by making one trade with Arizona for Caleb Smith and one of Cabrera or Escobar. Smith isn't a free agent until 2024, so perhaps a package deal with Smith gets him to pull the trigger on Cabrera or Escobar.
  7. Should this be in the Other Sports thread? John Rahm, who was leading the Memorial by 6 strokes after the third round, was forced to withdraw due to a positive COVID-19 test. It is not known if he's vaccinated, but tour officials said that vaccinated players are not subject to the contact tracing that Rahm was after he was in close contact with a person who tested positive, suggesting that he is not vaccinated. If so, choosing to not get vaccinated may have just cost him $1.675M. A tour spokesperson said that "slightly above 50%" of players are vaccinated.
  8. Already offered by Sam Adams and Anheuser-Busch.
  9. The #1 in the world has missed the cut of the last two majors.
  10. I'm pretty sure that every company out there that sells a tangible product is looking around and saying, "Other companies are raising their prices and blaming COVID - let's raise prices. COVID!!"
  11. Brian Brohm says, "Hello". I don't recall Rodgers getting his undies in a bundle about that pick.
  12. No, but they definitely should make changes when their 1B is OPSing under 500. Green would be another turd to throw at the wall and would only have to be not putrid to be an improvement. Exactly. It isn't about whether Green is going to be a star, it's about whether or not he's going to be better than what they already have because taking that chance doesn't cost anything in terms of prospects.
  13. Maybe that has to do with a contract extension not getting done last year, and then the MVP made Rodgers think that he can demand more guaranteed $ or a longer contract term. My point was to counter those who were saying that it was about the Packers not telling him that they intended on drafting a QB. Nowhere has Rodgers directly said that. Anything else is an inferential, subjective interpretation of vague words.
  14. He said it had nothing to do with the player. But he clearly didn't appreciate the Packers drafting him as a backup/replacement plan without somehow informing him. I listened to the entire interview with Kenny Mayne and he did not say that. He said, "it was never about the draft pick". When did he specifically say it was about drafting Love without telling him? That, to me, sounds like the media making assumptions. He said some things "were put into motion last year", but could it be about cutting Kumerow and not about drafting Love? Cutting Kumerow happened last year. I haven't seen anything from Rodgers indicating it had anything to do with drafting Love and not informing him.
  15. Didn't Rodgers say it had nothing do with Love?
  16. Think about this: We've been griping about how bad the Brewers offense has been, yet the Brewers have DFA'd two position players: one was claimed by another team (twice), and one was traded for. What does that say about the rest of the league?
