  1. I would think that it wouldn't cost that much to get Tony Watson from the Angels. Taylor Rogers from the Twins would be nice, but he will cost a lot more. He was their closer two years ago. Paul Fry will probably cost a lot more than Watson too, but he's been impressive the last two years. Maybe a potential starter like Bettinger will entice them. Caleb Smith might be another lower-cost option; walks are a little high but he's been decent since moving into the bullpen.
  2. Don't know where you were, perhaps a super-liberal area (Belmont Ave?), because the outdoor % that I've seen is more like 20%, but the indoor is spot-on. It's because they shut everything down and took so much away from us (even common sense stuff, like the outdoor walking/running/biking paths, and enforced it with police) that people don't want it taken away again.
  3. And the best SS/2B/CF combo, which means the pitching doesn't have to be as good to give you a shot at winning.
  4. Common sense hasn't worked so far, why would it start working now? My understanding is that's part of the relaxation of mask mandates - the positivity rate is going down as well.
  5. [sarcasm]Counsell to the White Sox for LaRussa and Tim Anderson, DFA LaRussa[/sarcasm]
  6. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/news/trevor-bauer-mlb-pitchers-steroids-pine-tar/2qhjxr7i4yrq1t15yl99ysvp2 I think addressing and enforcing this is the obvious first step.
  7. Also starring with Kotto in the movie Midnight Run, Charles Grodin passed away today. One of my favorite movies of the late 80's.
  8. For people with a compromised immune system (e.g. cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, and other conditions such as leukemia, immunotherapy patients, etc.) the vaccines may not be as effective. So, by not getting vaccinated, you may be placing those people at greater risk by spreading it if you get infected.
  9. They said on CNBC today that this week lumber was down 7.5%, copper down 2%, and corn down 10.5%.
  10. Bitcoin got hammered with Musks announcement (and the revelation of how energy inefficient bitcoin really is) and regarding inflation in materials pricing I'm hearing that many projects are being put on hold because of prices and labor shortage. Cramer also said today that copper futures have started to retreat so inflation could easily start to subside.
  11. Exactly. And don't boil - simmer them. Boiling them could cause them to burst, especially at the ends, and let the juices out. I like to simmer in beer & onions for about 15-20 minutes, then brown on the grill on medium/low heat turning frequently (again, to prevent bursting) for another 15-20 minutes. It kind of caramelizes the brat. Then scoop the onions out of the beer and put them on the brats. I've literally had people say, "Holy (crap)!", when eating one of my brats.
  12. I think I’d rather have Tim Boyle. This is a good, low risk move in a vacuum, but now we have to listen to the media imply the Packers will be downgrading to Blake Bortles. I don't get this. Bortles played on some bad Jacksonville teams. His first two years they gave up more sacks than any other team in the league. He's no Pro Bowl QB, but I highly doubt that Boyle is better than him. Fun fact - in 2015 Bortles led the league in game winning drives. He had more game winning drives that year (4) than Rodgers has had in any year of his career. In no way, shape, or form am I saying he's anywhere near as good as Rodgers; I'm pointing that out to show that he isn't terrible.
  13. Beer-simmered onions and Silver Spring's Beer 'n Brat mustard. On a hot-dog bun - no wasting room in your stomach on those big, dry buns.
  14. That is INSANE. I paid $30 for 1/2" OSB sheets last August and I thought I was getting ripped off at the time. I also accidentally bought 5 too many which are sitting unused, might have been a better investment than the stock market! I can already see that people's spending patterns are going to rapidly shift back to travel and social gatherings in the second half of 2021 so I bet the market will correct. Talking with my father and others, they say that everyone they know who had planned on some type of construction/remodeling is putting it off for the time being because of the price of materials. My father was planning on tearing down his garage and building a new one but he's putting that off for a while. Now I'm hearing that China is stockpiling rubber. Great, because between plywood and rubber the cost of replacing the flat roof here is going to be much more than the assessment, and I think that's scaring off buyers.
  15. This year's horrendous salary cap situation is the answer to this question. Yeah, the cap issue is a problem...but would the cap matter that much if we moved on from Rodgers. Realistically, you are probably punting your Super Bowl (probably playoffs in general) chances the first year of Love anyway. I won’t pretend to know a lot about the effect that would have had on the cap, especially if we would have been needing to sign a Top 10 pick, but it would have been possible I am sure. If there was a "plan", I'd be surprised if it was to move on from Rodgers prior to the end of the 2022 season. $17M is a hefty cap charge to take for a person who is no longer on their team. That give Love three years to develop, same as Rodgers.
  16. I think the reasons are: 1) As I mentioned earlier, unlike most player-team disagreements this is not "millionaires versus billionaires" - the Packers are community-owned, not billionaire-owned, and as such Rodgers is by far the wealthiest person involved in the disagreement. He makes at least 10x what Gutekunst makes. Hell, based on what I can find online, Gutekunst's estimated net worth is not that different from mine (and that's good, considering he is exactly one month older than me). B) Because the Packers are community-owned and have issued "stock", many fans are at the least symbolic owners of the Packers if not technically owners of the Packers. So in some way, even if indirectly or symbolically, Rodgers is disagreeing with or threatening them. 3) There's a reason they never let the students run the school, even the valedictorians. Jimmy Graham didn't work out so well, and left Gutes looking like a bad GM.
  17. A fair point, but because of the salary cap everything they trade for is probably going to have to be future picks. They can't take on any salary without restructuring or trading Adams, and will Adams restructure if he knows Rodgers is gone? That being said... the picks they could get for Rodgers and Adams would be quite a haul.
  18. With all they have invested in this season (the Smiths, last year of Adams, bucking up for Bakh, Jones, and Clark, Alexander's 5th year option), guarantee Rodgers that they will trade him sometime between the day after the Super Bowl and June 2nd, 2022 if he shows up, shuts up, and gives 100% for 2021. GB has invested too much in this season and the cap hit is too big for it to be a good trade now. One interesting angle, usually with these disagreements we are talking about taking the sides of millionaires versus billionaires. But there are no billionaires with GB being a community-owned franchise; Rodgers is by far the wealthiest person involved and it isn't even close.
  19. My parents live on the east side of Lake Winnebago. They've had a place there for about 18 years and I believe are on their 3rd boat lift. The boat lift will get beaten around by storms too, but my parents have 8 miles of lake coming at them when a storm comes out of the west. I believe if they have a storm coming in they pull the boat out of the lake just to be safe, but they've had the boat lift end up on their shore before. They've certainly had their jet ski end up in their yard. If you're on a chain of bigger lakes, see if there is someone who has a crane on a barge who will take the boat lift in and out for you. On Lake Winnebago there is a guy with a barge with a crane who will pick your boat lift up and place it on the shore for you and vice versa. Or ask your new neighbors how they handle their boat lift. But, like the pier, you'll need to take it out of the water in the fall and put it back in the spring.
  20. He'd be more fine as a reliever if we had better starting options. I feel like you said this last time AH started. Currently his ERA is around 3.50.... we could do a lot worse, no? He's been saying that for two years, primarily based on a small sample where he had a couple of bad starts when he was being yanked back and forth between AAA and the majors and between starting and the bullpen. And nobody should be judged based on 2020. The reality is he has a very unlucky .325 BABIP as a starter and a very lucky .258 BABIP as a reliever, and normalizing both to a .300 BABIP will show that he's an above average #4/#5 starter. He had a quality start tonight, was one out from a quality start in his last start, and has not given up more than three earned runs in any start this year. No, he's not Woodruff, Burnes, or Peralta; but he's more reliable and durable than Anderson and if you put him on waivers he wouldn't make it past the first team.
  21. Vaccines may not fully protect against new/different variants/mutations of the virus. The thought is that if someone is positive but asymptomatic, that strain is nothing to worry about. It's the strains that are making people sick/symptomatic after being vaccinated that they need to worry about. Sorry for the late reply. I understand all that. You cut off the remainder of my post. What I was not understanding is the logic behind what the PGA is doing as mentioned by "Fear the Chorizo". If the league is not mandating all players get vaccinated and those who are vaccinated can still get COVID (and not realize that they have it) - why would they stop testing those who got vaccinated as they could still pass it on to those who are not vaccinated? That's what I answered in my second sentence. Taking it a step further, it's going to take players out of action who are likely not going to be symptomatic or require medical care.
