  1. Same here. I love watching pre-season games. Camp is almost exclusively optimistic stories. So...when you hear about Burks "lack of instincts" being an issue, that is a big more telling. Now that Gutes has restricted media access, I don't think the stories coming out are going to be all sunshine and rainbows. Agree with CWH, I like preseason games because that's where you get to watch the later round draft picks/UDFAs/all those guys who you were so hyped about when they drafted/signed them.
  2. Pettine and OLB coach Mike Smith praising Rashan Gary's offseason work and work ethic, saying he will have a big role with the team this year. Smith with a rant on how some people evaluate pass rushers.: https://www.acmepackingcompany.com/2020/8/21/21376045/packers-coaches-praise-rashan-garys-offseason-discuss-pass-rusher-evaluation-mike-pettine-mike-smith Josh Jackson moved back to outside boundary corner, early results positive: https://www.acmepackingcompany.com/2020/8/21/21395891/packers-josh-jackson-is-focusing-solely-on-boundary-cornerback-in-2020
  3. Not directly about football but likely the result of canceling fall football season, Iowa has cut men's gymnastics, men's and women's swimming and diving, and men's tennis after the 20-21 school year. Those sports combined to produce $559k in revenue but accounted for $4.8m in expenses.
  4. Yep, relievers go 7IP only giving up one extra base hit.*Finishes off another Shiner. ...and 4 runs to a lousy team. With two infield hits and an error accounting for half of them.

  6. I’ll have to give the Sea Salt and Lime a try, that sounds like a great summer beer. Tastes just like Miller Chill, my second favorite beer of all time. Better get some now as their fall seasonal Oktoberfest is already out.
  7. I'm enjoying summer beers from what has become my second favorite brewery Shiner. First was their Mango Kolsch, next their Sea Salt and Lime, and now their Strawberry Blonde.
  8. Good call... on the first four at least: https://247sports.com/Article/Big-Ten-football-Winter-plan-spring-season-150511381/ Looks like multiple games per day per site. 14 teams, so seven games, two games per location per day with one game for one location. Biggest reason they think it's feasible is the implementation of the saliva test, so that all players could get tested the day of the game.
  9. If he had played some OF the last couple of years, yes, but acquiring him means that Braun has to be the Brewers everyday RF and they would only have four regular OFs on the roster. I think their resources are better spent trying to find someone who can play OF or 3B. I think Cain opting out meant the Brewers could no longer carry Morrison and needed someone who could play OF if necessary, thus why Brock Holt is on the roster.
  10. It's usually not the airlines (or their airplanes), it's usually a couple of poorly-trained employees who don't know the rules and/or are afraid of getting in trouble if they ask someone what they should do. Differences in employees' knowledge or interpretation of rules is usually what leads to people getting on to planes before these things happen. Also, the first time many people encounter an employee of the airline is at the gate when they're getting on the plane. Prior to that, they are running into TSA, airport employees, security, etc., who don't work for the airline and is not their job to enforce the airlines' policies.
  11. https://www.fiercepharma.com/manufacturing/roche-regeneron-join-forces-to-more-than-triple-manufacturing-covid-19-antibody Regeneron has started manufacturing it's two-antibody COVID cocktail ahead of FDA approval. Partnering with Roche allows for the manufacture of 650K to 2 million treatment doses, or 4 million to 8 million preventative doses, per year. If the FDA grants an emergency authorization for either use, the government would make doses available at no cost and handle distribution. The article suggests the government's deal is for 1.6M doses, but didn't state who would be able to get the no-cost doses. Important to note that this is not a vaccine, and prior articles have stated that antibody treatments as a preventative measure would first be used for essential workers (healthcare workers, etc.) and the high-risk populations. Antibody treatments will be a lot more expensive than a vaccine, as the government's $450M deal with Regeneron covers 1.6M doses, or $281/dose. The vaccine contracts with the government have been between $10 and $30 per dose. How many doses will be needed for a vaccine or preventative use is yet to be determined.
  12. Somewhat related, but wondering what people would think would be the best option for someone who rents an apartment in Eau Claire during the week for work but whose full-time home is in Neenah. Logging in on-line doesn't really work because they limit how many times you can log into your TV service from a different IP address.
  13. Boston is 6-16 with a $193M payroll and have lost 7 in a row by a combined score of 67-32. Yesterday was the first time in a week that they haven't given up at least 8 runs in a game.
  14. Could be worse. The Red Sox are 6-13 with a $193M payroll and got beat tonight 17-8.
  15. The Packers have signed Malik Turner.
  16. In the "I had no idea he was still in the majors" category, Caleb Thielbar. Hasn't pitched in the majors since 2015.
  17. Not sure how I'd feel as a player being asked to play two seasons so close together. (spring 2021, fall 2021) They play 12-14 games in the fall, so I don't see why they couldn't split it between 7 in the spring and 7 in the fall. Play only your division rivals (6 games) with winners in the conference championship. Division rivalry games are usually the more interesting games (save Michigan and Ohio State), so if fans are allowed that would maximize ticket revenue. For teams that don't make the conference championship, allow them to schedule one bonus bowl-like regional game against any opponent they want, conference or non-conference. Could create some very interesting regional games - Nebraska vs. Oklahoma or Colorado, Iowa vs. Missouri, Minnesota vs. Iowa State, Michigan vs. Notre Dame, Indiana vs. Kentucky, Purdue vs. Louisville, Penn State vs. West Virginia, Maryland vs. Virginia, Michigan State vs Pitt, Illinois vs. Memphis, etc..
  18. I feel the same way about the letter C. What does it do that K and S don't? Combine with the letter "H" to make "Ch"? ("Che" in the Spanish alphabet.)
  19. This is primarily the result of increased testing capacity. They're simply testing a lot more people now than they were able to back in April. Back in April they didn't have much testing ability/supplies, and people were essentially told not to come in unless they were very sick. Those asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic were not included in the positive case count in April. Now testing is more widespread and people who are asymptomatic (but exposed to those who tested positive) or mildly symptomatic are able to get testing and are being included in the positive results. If you look at the number of tests being conducted daily, it is probably a lot more than 6.67 fold than were conducted in April. On a lesser scale, they have figured out better ways to treat people - oxygen is usually better than a ventilator, remdesivir is more available, so those who are seriously ill are recovering faster.
