  1. I'm guessing, and it is nothing more than a logical guess, that the TV contracts are still enforced if games are postponed (which can and has happened for a number of reasons, recently hurricanes, etc.) but possibly not if canceled. My guess is that they are looking to postpone to spring to still enforce the TV contracts and give more time for a vaccine/treatments to have a chance of having some fannies in the stands. Spring sports don't make any money, so moving football to spring is the best shot at salvaging any of the football revenue.
  2. Power 5 Conference commissions held an emergency meeting today. Big Ten presidents leaning towards postponing the fall sports season, and are looking to see of other Power 5 conferences will follow suit. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/29629669/power-5-talking-no-fall-football
  3. How does someone "triple to shallow right "? What happened there?
  4. If they're going to make demands about COVID preparedness, they better hope their fellow student athletes don't pull what several Louisville soccer players pulled: https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/29609680/louisville-soccer-team-dismisses-3-players-suspends-3-others-holding-party

  6. Yes, there is - it's called "anchoring". One of the fundamental cognitive heuristics. There is also a bit of confirmation, action, affect, availability, cognitive fluency, and loss aversion heuristics in there as well.
  7. Those sliders from Hader were filthy. If he can replicate those sliders consistently he'll be unhittable.
  8. [sarcasm]Yeah, Houser certainly belongs in the bullpen.[/sarcasm]
  9. No problem... (And of course, the Sox broadcast does not show the pitch tracker on the replays, just Stone saying it "was off the plate". Yeah, right...)
  10. In Sweden, it's finally warm enough for people to be spending lots of time outdoors. In Spain, it's finally warm enough for people to go back indoors. It's not about humidity, it's about confined spaces without air filtration.
  11. It's not by chance in the Whitefish Lake or Flathead Lake area, is it? I just got back from there. It will not be the last time I go there.
  12. Same thing happened with the Pac 10 a week or two ago.
  13. Well, the two potential TEs they recruited the year after Ferguson (2018) ended up switching positions (Cormac Sampson to OL, Jaylan Franklin to OLB) so they didn't have a scholarship backup to him except the two true freshman last year (Rucci, Cundiff). The planned backup to Ferguson was a junior who medically retired (Benzschawel) during the season and their 3rd string TE (Lloyd) missed the season due to injury. The backup TE (Eschenbach) was a walk-on redshirt freshman.
  14. The shorter wavelength allows for faster transmission of data, but it also means a shorter range. From what I understand, 4G has a range of about 10 miles; 5G has a range of about 1000 feet. Unless they can make towers cheaply, or turn people's phones into mini-towers, 5G is really only going to be practical in bigger cities.
  15. That's the point - kind of like WOAH SOLVDD, it is somewhat of an inside joke about a poorly typed thread title that showed up on here a few years ago.
  16. I don't think the referenced thread made the WOAH SOLVDD section of the website, but it was a well-panned thread title from about 3-4 years ago.
  17. Amazonl just got FCC approval to launch a boatload of satellites to bring high-ish speed internet everywhere.
  18. Tell her to give it a couple of months and that decision might be made for her.
  19. Or the guy in Wyoming who was driving 10-15 mph under the speed limit, and when I passed him he stuck his middle finger out the window at me. Of course, I had no choice but to clean my windshield and spray windshield wiper fluid while going 70 mph.
  20. I don't know why, but it could be because Ebola is transmitted through bodily fluids, most commonly blood and vomit, which makes transmission much more difficult than breathing on someone. Only two people on US soil have ever been infected with Ebola, and both recovered. The US is pushing 150,000 deaths from COVID. While the survival rate of Ebola is much lower, the infection rate is isn't even in the same universe as COVID.
  21. The research so far has shown no evidence of COVID-19 being transmitted by ingesting food. All of the research so far has shown it to be a respiratory virus. Now, employees not wearing gloves is another story, but as far as COVID-19 goes, there is no evidence suggesting a reason to be concerned with eating food. To be safe, don't touch your face while eating and wash your hands after.
  22. I can't speak to Arizona, but I lived in CA for 6.5 years and in IL for almost 4 years and Illinois drivers are worse than CA drivers and it isn't even close. IL drivers are the most selfish drivers I have ever seen - never have I been anywhere where they pull out into the intersection when the light is changing even though it is blocked ahead and they can't get through, blocking the intersection for the cross-traffic. IL drivers think that if they can get ahead of one or two more vehicles that will make all the difference in the world in their commute, whether that is forcing themselves into the intersection, passing on the right shoulder/where there isn't a lane, not merging until the last second, you name it. In CA everybody knows there is traffic everywhere and they, for the most part, just deal with it and take their turns. (CA also had legitimate road rage incidents, and I think that has made people think twice about being a jerk.)
  23. Thinking outside the box here (I'm sure there's 100 reasons why it won't work, but...): 1) Have high school kids learn virtually, use the high schools as additional space for junior high and grade school kids to "spread out" so they are in contact with fewer kids at their school. 2) Switch the virtual days to Saturday and Sunday when the parents are (typically) home from work. Few people go on vacation during the school year, so why not have the off days be Monday/Tuesday? Have Sunday morning off for religious services, school Sunday afternoon. From what I gather, not really, as many companies have brought back "essential" employees (Directors and above) to the office, typically at 25% or less of building capacity. But there is a ton of empty hotel conference room space. Not an option for rural kids, but for city/suburban kids could be a way to spread out and be in contact with fewer kids at their school. Get a big conference room, desks every six feet, project the lessons on a screen and have teachers in booths behind plexiglass for individual 1:1 sessions throughout the day.
  24. I don't know... I wonder if they are thinking that the non-conference games are mostly the first three weeks of the season, and canceling them will give them more time to see how this evolves with kids coming back to school. Obviously UW's game with Indiana is the first weekend of the season, but it could be pushed back to Sept 19th.
  25. I don't know much about teaching now, my mother was a teacher back in the good old days (when there were 300 applicants for every elementary school opening). But I do know this - my colleagues who have school-age kids have a whole new level of appreciation for teachers after having their kids at home for a couple of months trying to play teacher to them. This fall I think you'll see a lot more parent involvement and cooperation in helping any way they can to get their kids back in school.
