  1. One thing is for sure, they definitely have some analytics that say that OF range and speed have value.
  2. You may want to check Roegner's last couple of starts.
  3. Please read the article that jimmyjeromehardy7 quoted.
  4. This is a must-read.
  5. 6 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER (Hiura's errors), 1 BB, 11 K, 9 of 11 K swinging. Dude is dealing right now.
  6. 9 K through 4 for Brown, Hiura not his friend at all in the field, with 8 of the 9 strikeouts swinging. Thoughts of rushing Hiura to the majors should be tempered for defensive purposes.
  7. So far Zack Brown has struck out five of the eight batters he's faced in the firs two innings. Should have only faced six, but an error and a passed ball on a strikeout allowed two extra batters. Edit: make that seven of eleven batters through three innings, with six of the seven strikeouts swinging
  8. Two guys I remember Braun raving about in spring training were Haniger and Taylor Williams. We are now seeing why. Hard to answer this question because we are talking about two different events - trading Haniger/Bandy for Parra, and trading Parra for Davies. The story isn't over yet though, because Davies is still on the team. With Davies eligible for arby next year, and with Woodruff/Peralta/Burnes/Houser knocking on the door and Ortiz/Brown/Ponce/Supak right behind them, there is a good chance that Davies gets moved in the next few years. Then it becomes Haniger/Banda for what Davies brings back.
  9. All I will say is that science has shown that the human brain isn't fully developed until around age 25.
  10. What I've learned about the Brewers draft over the last few years is: 1) They know exactly what guys will sign for B) Their MO w/r/t pitching seems to be lower risk and volume - guys in later rounds, particularly throwing $300K at a few HS guys in rounds 11-19
  11. Great post, Adam. I have been wondering the same for years and hoping someone would overhaul the minor league instruction. I can tell you what their philosophy was in the late 90's/early 2000s - they put the high schoolers as the starters in the minors because "they needed to throw more innings" and the college pitchers as the relievers. They didn't subscribe to the innings jump limit until 2004/2005, but neither did most teams. The acronym TINSTAPP really applied prior to 2005 because they (and most teams) didn't understand the fragility of HS arms. Also, until protection for unsigned picks (2010) and the draft bonus pool (2012) they were not on a level paying field. They had to go for signability and hope they developed. Post draft bonus pool implementation, they've been as good as anyone but have picked very few pitchers early. 2012 - no pitcher until 3rd round, but Tyler Wagner, Damien Magnifico, Anthony Banda, and this Brent Suter guy 2013 - no first round pick, but Taylor Williams in the 4th and Ryan Yarbrough (who didn't sign, but is pitching well for the Rays) and Devin Williams was developing nicely until he got hurt 2014 - jury still out on Medeiros, but nabbed Brandon Woodruff and Jordan Yamamoto in the 11th and 12th rounds; Sneed was good enough to be flipped for Villar (and Sneed is having a good year in AAA this year) Anything else is too recent, but 2015 has Ponce and Kirby, and 2016 is the infamous Braden Webb, Corbin Burnes, Zack Brown run with Thomas Jankins in the 13th.
  12. I don't hate it, but reports of "high floor/low ceiling" better not be accurate
  13. Could be part of the negotiation strategy - they let him play football, in exchange they sign him for well under slot. If they have a deal in place for $4M, that's $800K they can use to sign other players. If they have a deal in place for less than $4M... that's not a terrible strategy, especially with the minimal difference in talent between this spot and the end of the 1st round.
  14. They don't play defense in the Big 12, so nothing to worry about.
  15. We would have had to have a thread where the cuss filter was taken off for 48 hours, a la 2011 NLCS.
  16. A bit off-topic, but recently almost all of the top-10 prospects have been international players. I wonder how many of these players were signed during years when that team egregiously exceeded the international signing bonus rules/"suggestions" (before the current rules were in place)?
  17. What I've read about Tourang is "high floor/low ceiling". Not sure I want that from the #21 overall pick. And That's last composite had Nander de Sedas in the high 30's, but now it's at 57, so I'll add him in to my 2nd round mix. I like him, but thought he would go between #21 and #60.
  18. I don't have a clue what they'll do in the first round, but I hope it's Noah Naylor. Athletic LH power at C or 3B doesn't grow on trees. I'm reading that Larnach has a lack of speed, like Beer, and an average arm - thus some are projecting him to LF. If that's the case, might as well draft Beer. No one else really stands out, so if not Naylor I hope they have a deal with someone that can come in at least $600K or more under slot. Some other guys I like (based on the little I know about them) #60 - Lyon Richardson, RHP, HS (relatively new to pitching, has low mileage on arm); Gunnar Hoglund, RHP, HS; Aaron Hernandez, RHP, TA&M-CC #73 - Jonathan Stiever, RHP, Indiana; Braydon Fisher, RHP, HS; Kyle Bradish, RHP, New Mexico St. #125 - Richard Palacios, SS, Towson; Ford Proctor, SS, Rice; Andrew Moritz, OF, UNC-Greensboro #155 - Austin Cox, LHP, Mercer; Ryan Feltner, RHP, Ohio State; Hugh Smith, RHP, Whitworth Unfortunately it doesn't look like this draft has much for guys who can stick at SS, at least where the Brewers are picking.
  19. Thanks, but nothing in the cache. Called xfinity and they reset the internet connection, and now it is back to sporadically working. Problem seems to be when I lose signal it doesn't want to reconnect (or it takes a long time to). My place is long and skinny with a concrete stairwell in the middle which does a great job of preventing the WiFi from getting from the living room to the master bedroom. I got a WiFi extender, and it works, but it technically doesn't extend the signal, it creates a new signal and adds "_ext" to the end of my WiFi signal name. When I go to the master bedroom or up to the roof deck it disconnects from the living room signal and picks up the "_ext" signal, which disconnects the WiFi calling. Sometimes it reconnects, some times it takes a long time to reconnect, sometimes it doesn't reconnect at all.
  20. This next one is going to be interesting. Some higher ranked guys struggling (Lutz, Erceg, Grisham), some former top guys resurging (Ray, Gatewood, Diplan), some fringe guys making a move (Brown, Supak, Nottingham, Henry).
  21. Brown and Diplan... dealing.
  22. The WiFi calling feature on my phone no longer works on my home WiFi network. It used to, but not any longer. Can't pinpoint when it stopped working at home, but it still works on the WiFi network at work. Reset my phone, reset my router, reset my cable modem... still doesn't work. I have 120 Mbps download speed, 12 Mbps upload. Samsung Galaxy Edge phone, tp-link AC1200 dual band gigabit router (tried both the 2.4 and 5.0 networks but doesn't work on either).
