  1. Can we redirect that discussion to another thread (I think there are 2-3 dedicated to team direction/strategy) and stick to Santana here? Guy has ridiculous bat speed. To turn on that inside pitch and hit it out was amazing. And he'll take pitches and walk too. He has nothing left to prove in the minors; time to make room for him. The good thing is that the Brewers have options. If they don't get good offers for Davis they can say, fine, we'll deal Lind and move Braun to 1B. If they don't get good offers for Lind they can say, fine, we'll move Davis. No situation like when they had to move Overbay to make room for Fielder.
  2. The Brewers only have 37 spots filled, so they can easily add Davies and/or Burgos. If they need to drop Burgos before the Rule 5 they can (and Lohse and likely Kintzler will be gone too, creating additional spots). Houser and Lopez need to be added, so they can be brought up as well. My guess is Davies and Burgos first with Biloxi in the playoffs.
  3. Call me crazy, but I absolutely loved the New Day match. Coming out with Xavier Woods playing the trombone to their rendition of Sinatra's "New York, New York". Then playing "Taps" on the trombone during the finishing move. Priceless. I was rolling. Funniest thing I've seen on Raw in a while (but I don't watch much anymore). Now that the Rosebuds are gone, I think this is my favorite gimmick.
  4. Women don't put cases on them. Their pants are so tight that they won't fit in their pockets with a case. Less comfortable when they stick them inside their bra because they don't have pockets on leggings. That, and I also think that women throw their phones at each other when they get catty.
  5. Yes, really: http://dairylandexpress.com/2015/08/13/brewers-johnny-hellweg-impresses-with-velocity-in-rehab-start/ With other guys running into innings limits, especially if Biloxi goes far in the playoffs, or being from winter ball countries, I think one of their best bets is to see if they can make something of that 97/98 mph fastball. I don't recall anyone who has never been above low-A being assigned to the AFL before, and besides that Williams already is having his innings curtailed, so I wouldn't wager too much money on him. A friendly bet - Hellweg vs. Williams?
  6. If a player is from a country that participates in the winter ball Caribbean Confederation, he isn't eligible. This is so that player can play winter ball in his home country. I thought about Wang, but he's pitched >120 innings this season on top of not pitching much last year. I think he's at his limit. Probably a good bet for next year though.
  7. It's hard to tell this year. They already have a lot of young guys up and don't have a lot of PT available as is. But at the same time, they have a number of guys who are going to need to be added to the 40-man anyway, so why not give them a taste? Pretty good chance: Wagner - they've already used his option this year, and I think Garza is hurt again as he was only hitting 92/93 today Lopez - has to be added anyway, and with the situation with his kid I think the Brewers will do the right thing and get him and his family on the major league health care plan Davies - audition for 2016 5th starter Strong - his option has been used, and they'll need to figure out if they should plan on him being the 2nd lefty in the pen next year Sardinas - already used his option, as a switch hitter can be valuable as a PH and also as a PR Moderate chance: Houser - has to be added to the 40-man, but also could go to the AFL. (Can you do both?) Centeno - already on the 40-man and five years younger than Ashley, but already tough to find PT for Maldy Clark - I can easily see trading Lind this offseason and going with a Rogers/Clark platoon in 2016, but with Lind and Rogers there now there are only PH AB's to be had - is that worth bringing him up? Outside chance: Chapman - do they want to try to slip him through the Rule 5 draft and keep him off the 40-man? Is he in their plans for 2016? Ashley - do they reward the 30-year-old for a great season? Reed - already few ABs to go around in the OF, AFL more likely Guez - see Ashley; probably not a priority for the AFL
  8. With the minor league season winding down, here's a stab at who I think will be in the AFL. Lots of candidates, hard to pick this year: Locks: Hellweg Hader (only 85 IP so far this year) Roache Good bets: Phillips (already has 555 PAs this year, might need a break) Magnifico Reed Taylor Weisenburger Unsure: Barrios (does Colombia participate in the Caribbean Confederation? If so, he's not eligible. If not, he's a lock.) Houser (about same innings as last year, but will need to be added to the 40-man so might get Sept. callup) Davies (same as Houser) Strong (might get callup to audition him for 2016) Nick Ramirez (would like to see him take a stab at OF to give him a better shot at being a utility/bench player) Coulter (A-ball exception, but so many AA players that he might not be top six in priority) Dark horses: Houle Clint Terry (pitched great at BC, but lost a lot of time to injury)
  9. I think Garza is hurt again. He was only hitting 92/93 today. When he came off the DL he was hitting 95, occasionally 96. I don't think the gun was slow as Knebel was hitting 96/97. Khrush. Among the 32 LFs with at least 275 PAs, he is now 8th in OPS.
  10. I'm pretty sure that, when men aren't around, when women get catty they throw their phones at each other. Can't remember the last time I've seen a woman under the age of 35 that didn't have a cracked screen (and the phone wasn't less than 4 months old).
  11. And that's been pitching at least half of his games in a very hitter-friendly and HR-friendly ballpark.
  12. And I suppose a lot of #4-5 starters have thrown immaculate innings too. No one is saying he's a #1. But it has been proven that he's a solid #3 at the worst. Please provide statistical evidence that he's a #4-5. And name some #4-5 starters who have thrown no-hitters.
  13. [sarcasm]But he's just a #4-5 starter because he can't throw 95.[/sarcasm] For what he went through in 2013, if there's anyone who deserves it, it's him. I wonder how many pitchers in history have thrown a no-hitter and an immaculate inning, much less in the same year?
  14. For what he went through in 2013, if there's anyone who deserves it, it is him. [sarcasm]But he's just a #4-5 starter.[/sarcasm]
  15. In 6.1 IP so far, the only hit Broxton has given up was the HR to Khris Davis. Two walks, WHIP of 0.474. One earned run, but somehow that translates into a FIP of 4.53.
  16. Slider effectiveness doesn't have as much to do with velocity, as it is possible to overthrow it and have it not break (like when Broxton was throwing it 91/92). Slider has to do with sharp break and locating it for strikes, or sliding out of the strike zone at the last second. Last night it seemed like his strike % was low. So I believe it is either sitting on pitches, or throwing a lot of pitches in an inning. Peralta, Lohse, Garza, Cravy... maybe it isn't the pitchers, but who's calling the pitches and who's coaching the pitchers. Maybe they're the ones that haven't made the adjustments.
  17. Tickets will only come down if the people who own the tickets are actively managing the listing close to game time. If people don't have time to do it or forget, they won't come down. I think season ticket holders can cash them in for a non-sellout game later in the year, but the seats won't be as good as the ones they have (unless they are terrace level). I think they can only get terrace level seats, or a certain level below the seats they have.
  18. A Ben Guez sighting in Arizona? Would be nice if he could somehow find his was to one of those open roster spots and get that cup of coffee in the bigs this year.
  19. The written media - print or internet - gave up proofreading a long time ago. I'm now surprised when I read an article on-line that doesn't have a typo or other type of error in it.
  20. Dee Gordon is leading the league in hits, so it isn't just some hot streak. I also laugh at how some people think that stolen bases don't matter. Maybe the actual stat doesn't matter, but the threat of stolen bases and speed on the basepaths makes pitchers make a lot of mistakes to subsequent hitters. It also allows subsequent hitters to sit on more fastballs. It's just hard to prove statistically because it's really hard to make a control to compare it to.
  21. It's baseball. Every team wins 1/3rd of their games, every team loses 1/3rd of their games. Some times players have bad games, some times inexplicably good games. Garza wasn't the 5+ ERA pitcher he was early in the season, and he's not the 2.35 ERA pitcher he has been since the All-Star break.
  22. I think we are all kind of saying the same thing. It's ok to believe one way or the other, so long as that belief doesn't translate into actions that inflict physical, verbal, or psychological pain or harassment on another person just because their beliefs don't align with yours. That's a line that no one should cross. As for an announcement, I'm guessing the line of thinking was that if you let it out slowly then people will keep asking you about it (or keep whispering about it) as it diffuses slowly throughout those connected with you. While he's in Helena now, (hopefully) he will be in Appleton next year, Brevard the year after, Biloxi the next... if it's not common, public knowledge he might have to keep dealing with the whispers and figuring out who he can trust every year in a new city. I'm guessing that he thinks this is the best way to just get over it, and the timing of the end of the season is not coincidence.
  23. At this point, why not start Gennett against lefties (and Perez against righties)? Why not give them some more practice against their weaknesses? I can understand if it is against a team in contention, as it is an "unwritten rule" that you play your starters against contenders. But against the Marlins, Phillies, Reds, etc., why not?
  24. Can't find any info on when that is for the Brewers. For the Dodgers it is 6 hours before game time, but my understanding is that each team sets their own. At 5:45PM today the app had no listing for tonight's game. Anyone know?
