  1. Now that Parra is gone, Peterson has the highest OBP on the team.
  2. For giggles: 1) S. Gennett, 2B 2) J. Lucroy, C 3) R. Braun, RF 4) A. Lind, 1B 5) K. Davis, LF 6) H. Perez, 3B 7) L. Schafer, CF 8) J. Segura, SS 9) T. Jungmann, P
  3. Just because teams are "on" Adam Lind doesn't mean they are offering a fair or reasonable return for him. If they are offering peanuts for him, then wait. Remember, "not motivated" is DM-speak for "they haven't offered enough".
  4. Welp, nailed the Parra to Baltimore one, but Gomez to Houston... not so much.
  5. There was about 4/5 years ago, and that's not a coincidence. I recall DM saying two things back then regarding pitching: 1) according to their analysis, bigger bodied pitchers had a lower incidence of major injuries than smaller pitchers (or better recovery rate), and 2) they recognized that Miller Park was a HR-friendly ballpark and needed pitchers who were more ground-ball pitchers than flyball pitchers. I don't recall the medium, but I do recall him saying those things. This explains the 2011 draft very well. They didn't draft Jungmann and Bradley because they were high-floor, quick-to-the-majors guys. They drafted them - over Sonny Gray and others - because of their size (Jungmann - 6'6", Bradley - 6'4") and because they induced a lot of ground balls in college (Jungmann gave up 4 HRs in over 500 PA's; Bradley gave up one HR in 400 PA's). Jungmann had to make a lot of adjustments, and the Brewers knew that, so any notion that he was a quick-to-the-majors pick is simply not true. May also help explain the picks of Arnett (6'5", 225) and Heckathorn (6'6", 225). Obviously recent picks like Medieros and Kirby show they don't necessarily think that anymore. I also seem to recall the Brewers emphasizing teaching the 2-seam fastball in the minors. I seem to recall a couple of guys who threw harder in college, but then threw their fastball 2-3 MPH slower in the minors because the Brewers had them switch to a 2-seam from a 4-seam. Can't remember specifics, but it seems to ring a bell.
  6. So the Brewers are sending $1mil for sure. And if the Cardinals buy his option out for $2 mil, the Brewers kick in that cash. But if the Cardinals exercise his option for 2016, they are on the hook for that. Am I understanding that correctly? Yep. Broxton was owed ~$3M for the rest of the year, so the Brewers save $2M in the deal and get a high-upside low-level long shot.
  7. At AAA in 2013 he put up a 1.68 ERA and in 64 innings gave up 43 hits and struck out 72. In 2014 his ERA went up to 3.91, but still gave up less hits (42) and more strikeouts (54) than innings pitched (48). Likely a AAAA guy, but not the worst guy in the world to claim.
  8. Given Herrera's positional flexibility, being a switch-hitter, and how he showed halfway decent pop when given a chance to play full-time (and how he's tearing up AAA), I find it odd that no contender claimed him. I'm not comparing him to Zobrist in any way, shape, or form, but there have to be worse 24th-25th guys to have on a team.
  9. Cotts, K-Rod, maybe Lind. Ain't done yet.
  10. That's the reason the Astros were able to make this trade. They have a ton of good players in their system. Out of that abundance, they can trade to go for it this year. Hopefully in 2-3 years, this is the Brewers. Get as much young talent as you can. Then finish the organizational roster during the winter meetings. Every team is willing to trade for guys under the age of 25, but not every team is willing to trade for veterans. Many more teams, if not every team, will be in the trade market during the winter meetings so perhaps there is a team that will take one or two of our OF prospects in exchange for a pitching prospect (or catching, or 3B).
  11. The unofficial Mike Fiers bandwagon driver for the last five years tips his cap and says thank you. I think I've found a reason to make Houston my AL team.
  12. And Lind can't play OF. Moss is an OF first and foremost. Over the last two seasons he has played 163 games in the OF, a vast majority in RF, and 77 games at 1B. The Cardinals need him to play OF with Holliday going down. Lind is not a comp for Moss because Lind can't play OF.
  13. Other way around. People thought there was a deal just because it was reported by someone on the web/social media, and not announced.
  14. I understand that several very expensive stadiums have been built with the assumption that teams will keep 100% of their media revenue. But at least half of all media revenue should go to the league to be divided up evenly among teams.
  15. Again, positional flexibility. Moss can play OF and 1B, both needs for the Cardinals. Lind cannot, Parra maybe but hasn't in a game. On a side note, I'd like to see Nick Ramirez go to the AFL with an OF glove.
  16. Parra and Lind to the Cardinals for Reyes plus a couple of lower-level guys. Or Parra and Lind for Kaminsky, Flaherty, and Weaver.
  17. So what? 'zactly. They need 2-3 years of top-10 picks (if not top 5). Don't care if he's not ready for a year, don't care if Schafer is the CF for the rest of this year and next. Go for the draft position this year and next.
  18. Flores is only 23, so he's still on the rise. Citi field can deflate hitters numbers, but my concern is (yet) another guy with poor plate discipline; his OBP isn't much higher than his BA. I hope there is another lower-level nugget thrown in the deal. Between he and Perez, they have 3B covered for a long time, with the other spelling Scooter against LHP. It seems that the way the Brewers have been drafting and acquiring players is that they value infield defense and go for hitting from the outfielders. Lots of high draft picks in the OF, lots of converted shortstops in the infield.
  19. On that link some Mets fans are saying that Wheeler + Flores is a massive overpay. They are probably thinking of 2007 Carlos Gomez, but the point being, some Mets fans wouldn't be happy about that.
  20. You left out Syndergaard.
  21. Maybe it's Parra AND Gomez... Parra, Gomez, Tyler Wagner to the Mets Wheeler, Matz, Lagares, Urena to the Brewers
  22. When the heavier-set woman who is cutting your hair on an 80-degree day for some reason chose not to wear deodorant that day. "Looks good" means "I'll finish it at home regardless of how it will turn out".
