  1. Forget MLB.tv, why isn't the game on the baseball package with Direct TV? same reason. FOX has exclusive national rights on Saturdays between 4 and 7 or 8 EST...so any game broadcast during those times (i.e. the MLB on FOX games like today) are blacked out in the mlb.tv or extra innings packages. been that way forever, and it still is for some reason. OK, so why doesn't Fox have a channel on Direct TV that shows the game? All of the Fox channels here are showing Red Sox - Tigers.

  3. What's the verdict on Hydroxycut or similar products?
  4. Given how weak the Bucks schedule is/was the last 1.5 months of the season, I don't even think it would have been possible for them to lose enough to get a significantly higher draft pick (without winning the lottery). That being said, there are five teams with between 19 and 21 wins so one or two games among that group could have a significant impact on their draft spot. It's interesting to look at Indiana though: 33-21 and the #3 seed. But none of their key players were top 10 draft picks - Granger (#17), Hibbert (#17), George (ok, he was #10), West (#18), Collison (#21), Hansbrough (#13), Barbosa (#28). Solid college players taken in the middle of the first round.
  5. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1128072-wrestlemania-28-results-how-kanes-latest-run-has-fallen-short-of-expectations#/articles/1128719-wwe-touts-wrestlemania-28s-success "Grossing $8.9 million, it was also the highest grossing live event in WWE history. The event was broadcast around the world on pay-per-view in more than 105 countries and 20 languages." Don't think that gives any reason to change a thing. One thing many people miss is the second sentence; it is a global economy now, and if sales in the U.S. are down it doesn't matter if sales to 5 billion other people are up.

  7. "the more I wish the Bucks would have used Bogut and/or Jennings to try to acquire an additional lottery pick" They did use Bogut to get a lottery pick - Udoh was the #6 overall pick in 2010. While he's not going to be a superstar, from what I've seen he looks pretty athletic and over the last 10 games has averaged 5.3 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, and 1.4 assists in only 19.9 minutes/game. Stretch that to 35 minutes per game and he'd average almost 10 rebounds and 3 blocks a game, which is what he did in 31 minutes vs Atlanta on Tuesday. No, he'll never average 20 points per game, but he's a pretty good defensive PF/C. Trading for a lottery pick is easier said than done - it takes two to tango. If the draft is deep and talented, chances are teams with lottery picks aren't going to be very willing to give them up.
  8. I thought Pokorny would have a shot as a RP/LOOGY with his H:IP and K:IP ratios. Apparently not.
  9. That's nothing compared to Kim Jong-il's slash line of .997/.999/3.992. He once made an out on purpose so he could get to a parade in his honor on time.
  10. "Not saying it won't work out for him eventually like it could for Gamel" What's going to change between next year and this year? Ramirez, Weeks, and Gamel will still be under contract. Unless Gamel falls on his face and is let go, Green will be on the bench next year too.
  11. Third! And if you go to Multnomah Falls or Portland you must go to/stay at McMenamins Edgefield in Troutdale. It's just amazing. An old country hotel (supposedly haunted) with a brewery, several bars (including the famous "Little Red Shed", possibly the smallest bar you will ever see), restaurants, a spa, a movie theatre, glassblowing, picnic areas, and a little pitch & putt course. You can literally have a bar crawl on the property. You could earmark two days just for this property alone.
  12. Meyer wasn't even given a full season to prove himself in the majors - 516 PA's over two seasons. Believe it or not, offense was down so much in baseball in 1988, his rookie season, that his OPS+ was 103. Granted, for a 1B that was probably a little below average and he was already 26 but he was only a rookie. In 1989 he was only given 164 PAs and then given up on. Compare that to the first two seasons of J.J. Hardy and Rickie Weeks; they had more plate appearances, OPS+ numbers below 100 (granted, expectations of OPS are low for SS), but they were given a much longer leash to prove themselves. Robidoux was only given ~450 PA's over four years, the fourth year being only his age 24 season. He was never a power hitter - he was an average hitter who drew more walks than Ks, but he was expected to hit home runs playing 1B/DH and got benched when he didn't. When it's musical chairs between those two, Greg Brock, and Paul Molitor for the 1B & DH spot in the lineup (and Molly's the fan favorite and they need to justify the trade for Brock) it's hard to get in a groove and produce. Thus why now many people feel it's better for young players to play every day in AAA then sit on the bench in the majors.
  13. I'll second Glacier National Park and Utah. Along those lines, I'll also strongly recommend Lake Tahoe as it is year-round - great snow sports from Thanksgiving through March/April, and lots of hiking/biking/boating/zip lines in the summer/fall. If you're into gambling, there's casinos on the Nevada side. You could couple that with a Napa winery tour as they are about a 3.5 hour drive from each other, and there's river rafting directly between the two north of Sacramento. I once spent almost an entire day driving around Lake Tahoe with two friends just stopping at random places, bars, and restaurants - Gar Woods in Carnelian Bay and Pete & Peter's in Tahoe City are must-stops. If you want to do New England you could do a fall trip to Boston for some history, head to Vermont/New Hampshire for the leaves changing color, stop in Lake Placid for a little Olympic history, and shoot over to Niagara Falls. Make sure to have your passport, as the Canadian side is much nicer (better view, nice hotels/casinos). But you can see everything you need to see in Niagara Falls in a day.
  14. Buzz is from Texas, thus the appeal of SMU being located in Dallas. From what I hear, Buzz would only consider leaving MU for a school in Texas. The best case scenario for Marquette next year is to be a poor-man's Syracuse this year where they have a really deep team but not really any stars. 5 - Otule/Gardner/Durley 4 - J. Wilson/S. Taylor 3 - Blue/Anderson/Jones (would not be surprised if Jones transferred) 2 - Mayo/TJ Taylor 1 - Cadougan/D. Wilson Speaking of recruits, anyone know what the scoop is with Phillip Nolan? Even if Marquette had a scholarship, would he even be eligible or would he need to go to JuCo/prep school? If Otule doesn't get the medical redshirt (hasn't he taken a medical redshirt already?), they'll need Nolan's height.
  15. Having seen both Morgan and Schafer play OF in person, I'll say Schafer is just as good as Morgan if you adjust slightly for Schafer having a lot less experience. I watched a split-squad spring training game two weeks ago where Schafer played pretty much the whole game in LF. There was a line drive hit into the left-center gap; Schafer almost ran it down, but even more impressively picked the short-hop off the wall clean and in one motion spun and fired a laser to the SS cut-off guy who was barely off the infield dirt close to 3B to hold the runner at 3B who started the play at 1B. I don't see Morgan making that throw, and I've seen Morgan get turned around on enough balls over his head to say that Morgan is not a significantly better defensive OF than Schafer. Morgan may be better right now, but give Schafer another year or two of experience and he'll be right there. As for power, as I posted above, Schafer had a .446 SLG% in his second year of pro ball at Brevard as a 22-year-old, compared to Gennett's .406 SLG as a 21-year-old at the same level. In the game I watched Schafer was a home run shy of the cycle, and his triple bounced off the CF wall. He should have had a second triple except for an unlucky bounce that kicked off the wall down the right-field line right to the RF; if that ball goes into the corner he has a triple. Keep in mind, Schafer's been hurt the last two years which tends to have an impact on power.
  16. Do you live near an Enterprise where you can just rent as needed? As far as taking on payments... if you are going to be unemployed, why drop a lump sum on a vehicle? Unless you plan on being unemployed for a long time, instead of spending $4000 on a vehicle if you spend $250/month on payments that gives you 16 months to find a job before you have spent that same $4000 lump sum.
  17. "I don't know. I know Mayo is a freshman, but his basketball IQ is pretty terrible. Jacking up threes with nobody under the basket, poor decisions on the break, bad turnovers..." I think you just answered why - he's a freshman. Freshmen tend to do things like that. The fact that he's playing this much as a freshman (as opposed to Juan Anderson or sophomore Jamail Jones, supposedly a high recruit) says he actually has an above-average basketball IQ. For a freshman. Mayo will likely be their go-to guy next year, barring a big improvement in shooting % from Blue. Blue significantly improved his free throw % from last year, so he may make a big jump. Cadougan isn't a great shooter, and is even worse than Blue at free throws. Mayo and Gardner are going to be their biggest offensive threats, unless this juco transfer TJ Taylor is the next DJ-O.
  18. "Bo said he doesnt like to leave his inbounder with no timeouts left late in the game." UW had a timeout left.
  19. And on another note, I'm sick of seeing that Christian Laettner shot against Kentucky. I'm sorry, but that clock started late - it took more than one second for him to catch the ball, take a step to his right, turn around to his left and get the shot off. Never should have counted.
  20. Why on Earth was Berggren not in the game on the last possession? If he was in instead of Bruiser, he may have had a better chance at that offensive rebound and putback. And MSU loses to Louisville.
  21. The Bucks don't have a road game against a team with a winning record until April 19th. In fact, the Bucks only have two road games left this year against teams that currently have a winning record - April 19th @ Indiana and the last game of the year April 26th @ Boston. They have OKC at home, but no Miami, Chicago, Orlando, San Antonio, Lakers, Clippers, Dallas, or Denver the rest of the way.
  22. And in a bit of irony, Golden State sends Stephen Jackson to the Spurs for Richard Jefferson and a conditional first round pick. I think the condition is that it is a lottery-protected pick, but with San Antonio having the 2nd best record in the Western Conference a) it will very likely go to Golden State, and b) it will be very late in the first round.
  23. What networks are the UW and Marquette games on?
  24. Actually UW doesn't defend the 3 very well - look at their performances against Butler, Cornell, Davidson, etc., in the tourney the last few years. UW struggles defending guys 6'4"-6'7" who shoot the 3 because their guards are too short to defend them. If John Jenkins (6'4", 45% from 3) and Jeffrey Taylor (6'7", 43% from 3) shoot their averages or better, UW doesn't stand a chance. Vandy's weakness is PG, and JT needs to play a lot better than he has been playing for them to win. Vandy smoked Marquette in non-conference earlier this year at the Bradley Center.
  25. "I've seen a few articles about possibly eliminating the automatic bid for these teams winning their conference tourneys (Jay Bilas, I'm looking at you). I couldn't disagree more. The opportunity for teams like VCU, George Mason, Bucknell, Vermont, etc. to make a big splash in the tourney and knock off a big team is the most exciting part of the NCAA tournament. I really don't care if a team like USF, NC State, Northwestern is better than a team like Davidson. The opportunity for those teams to make it into the tourney and make a big splash gives us so much more interesting college basketball to watch, and it's really what makes championship week so enjoyable. " Here's the list of teams Wisconsin has lost to in the tourney in the last five years: Butler Cornell Xavier Davidson UNLV UW hasn't lost to a "power conference" team in the tourney since 2006 (Arizona - if you can even call the Pac-10 a "power conference" in basketball anymore). The success of teams like Butler, VCU, George Mason, Davidson, Cornell, Bucknell, and others is proof that they belong in the tourney just as much as any .500 team from a Big Six conference. They can't rack up the strength of schedule because they don't have RPI top 50 teams in their conference that they play by default, and teams don't want to play them in non-conference for fear of losing. I'm pretty sure those teams could rack up 9 wins in a conference with Penn State/Nebraska/Illinois/Minnesota/Northwestern/Iowa or De Paul/Providence/Villanova/St. Johns/Rutgers/Seton Hall/South Florida. They would probably be 14-4 in the Pac 10.
