  1. MLB should implement replays on plays at the plate. Like BrewCityUnit noted, it might as well be a force out the way it is right now. That's two runs just in the past week blown calls have cost us. Unacceptable.
  2. JimH is the absolute best at ranting. Picturing him as the guy in his avatar just adds to it.
  3. I like Jennings a lot, but he hasn't even played a minute yet. He could easily be a Telfair type bust in the NBA. Also, it seems that Sessions will be getting a contract for less than the MLE. He will be underpaid.
  4. I'm hoping it's just a smokescreen by the Bucks' F.O. Sessions needs to be resigned. He's too young and talented for a team depleted of just that to let go. That's why I don't get the Warrick signing. I like him as a player, but he's only gonna be here for one year. He's not part of the long term future, whereas Sessions should be. If that signing prevents us from matching an offer sheet, Hammond deserves to be fired.
  5. I think it's gonna be tough to sell high on McG. I'm guessing most GM's are gonna be leery of a 26 yr old guy that was never a top-notch prospect putting up big numbers out of nowhere, basically. Of course, there's a chance DM could get lucky and have a GM like Dayton Moore offer us a decent starter for him. If that doesn't happen, I'd rather just hang onto the guy, as he's cheap and versatile.
  6. As others have noted, I think we jumped the gun about a year too early on this thread, fellas. This summer has produced some hits that make me long for the days of "I kissed a girl, and I liked it." I honestly thought Asher Roth was a parody of something the first time I had heard it.
  7. I still think this trade gets done on the last day, and I wouldn't blame either team for making it. Nearly every position player on the Phils is in their prime for the next couple of years. Halladay just makes soooo much sense for them, as they could realistically have a shot at winning the next two World Series, creating a mini-dynasty we haven't seen for over a decade now.
  8. I had Nyko's yesterday for lunch, and the meat was very dry. Maybe it always is, as it's the first time I've ever eaten a Gyro there while sober.
  9. I didn't know much about Wallace before the trade rumors started up, but from everything I've read since, it seems unlikely that he'll stick at 3rd. I was impressed with Gamel's defense in his time up here, and expect him to be league average at 3rd eventually. Offensively, he reminds me a ton of JD Drew, so I think he'll be a good stick for many years. Matt LaPorta is a RF'er at best, but more likely a 1B/DH/LF. I'd guess he'll be a .250/.350/.450 hitter, so he'll have value, but not as much as Gamel or Wallace. I'm really hoping he's just flops at the big league level though. My best guess: Gamel, Wallace, and then LaPorta.
  10. Yeah, that opinion is just way out there. Will Leitch made a good point in his post today stating something like "the sportsworld would have been shocked if she posed for FHM", which is 100% true. By all accounts she's made her personal life extremely private. I don't recall any athletes she's ever been linked to. Bill Simmons tried to convince her to set up a twitter to no avail. And she kind of comes across as a narcissist in the video, so it's not very flattering for her girl next door persona.
  11. If you had made this argument before the season started (did you?), I could see your line of thinking. There is no doubt JJ isn't very athletic for a pro athlete, or even the most durable player. With that said, 26 year old players that have improved every year don't tend to regress rapidly. A random down year can happen (Pat Burrell: 2003 or Nick Swisher: 2008). I think 4 or 5 years from now, looking back, that will probably be the case for JJ. But maybe you're right. Personally, I still think it's stretch that one could expect Melvin foresee this happening. JJ was supposed to improve this year, allowing us to compete and groom Escobar in the meantime, and then flip him in the offseason for a haul.
  12. CV just isn't much of a competitor. He'll probably be labeled immature for the rest of his career because of how laid back he is.
  13. Meh. I think you're being way too results oriented. Ever since the second half of JJ's rookie year, he's been an above average SS. With him nearing his prime, why would one expect a dropoff of this proportion? Escobar has had a pretty good season at Nashville, but he was FAR from a sure thing offensively coming into the year. Kind of how JJ was in 2005, when they brought him up a couple months too early, and now we're forced to make a decision on him a year earlier than we should. Why make the same mistake twice?
  14. I agree with you Series. Hearing the peeper breath was just off-the-charts creepiness. I have to think there is just no way this guy gets found. What are the chances that the guy that posted it is the same guy that filmed it? Unlikely, at best. Also, what were EA's lawyers thinking confirming this was her? This video was posted months ago, and was a complete non-issue until last Friday. Many people were skeptical it was her until the legal statement.
  15. I see what you're saying, but I don't think it applies to Sessions. Bobby Simmons had no upside, and Gadz really didn't have much either, due to how foul-prone he is and iirc he was already pretty old when he signed that deal, so he probably already peaked. Ramon is only 23, and plays a premier position. Even if he doesn't improve, the contract would still be justified. Not to mention the trade value if BJ3 blows up. As for your second point, Sessions doesn't have to be a starter on a championship caliber team if he gets that rumoured deal. Championship teams can't have the Michael Redd's of the world locked up to max dollars, but a good, young 6th man for a 4 yr MLE? No problem.
  16. Don't be too sure. There are a lot of geeks out there that..... get off on this kind of stuff.
  17. Gerut's at-bats have been terrible. Getting behind 0-2 and then chopping one to 2nd seems to be his M.O. He has definitely earned that 4-40. But as others have noted, burying him because of 40 bad PA's is not wise at all. Sitting Hart or Cameron against a tough RH when the situation arises would be an ideal time for Gerut to get some starts.
  18. Yep, that scene is just brutal. My eyes well up just thinking about it.
  19. Yeah, his offseason has been really good this year. All he has to do is sign Sessions, which should be a no-brainer. Even if you don't have him in long-term plans, he should had value at what he'll wind up getting.
  20. Ain't that the truth. In all seriousness, what a terrible trade for the Mets. Francoeur is really bad at baseball, and is responsible for one of the best quotes in recent memory: "If on-base percentage is so important, then why don't they put it up on the scoreboard?" Well played Minaya.
  21. Brian: If you just want to drive it for another year or so I'd go with a low-mile used transmission. The place brucrustu recommended would probably do that for you. I'm assuming a new one is ridiculously expensive. I'm sure you could find one relatively cheap at a junkyard. Of course, there is some risk there that the same thing does happen again, which can be maddening. Personally, I would try to sell it on CL between private party and trade in and use it as a down payment on a newer car. As long as you are up front about the issue(s), people that are mechanically inclined don't seem to care and would probably buy it in that range. I really think you'd have a hard time getting 2100 in real money for it at a dealership, and I say that as a person who appraises cars daily. If they show you around 2100, they probably have a good sized mark-up on their car.
  22. Cedar Crest Ice Cream commercials during the Brewer games annoy me, especially the blue moon one. The guy sounds like the world's biggest dork. The new ones about "buzzed driving" are pretty bad as well.
