The thing is, you can "play to win" while starting young guys that might have a future with the team. No one wants to tank by starting a lineup of Ridnour, Stackhouse, Delfino, Thomas, Elson. If someone does, they're a complete idiot. Maybe you're confusing tanking with actively trying to lose games by playing bad players quite a few minutes, but I don't think anyone is trying to advocate that. After all, it is a lottery, and basically "throwing" games would be toxic to a franchise. We can play our young, "talented" players and still probably lose most nights. We just don't have enough talent to compete with most teams. That is completely on John Hammond. I think a lineup of Jennings, Meeks, LRMAM, Ilyasova, and Bogut is probably gonna lose more often than not. But each of them playing 35 minutes together is good for their development, and gives the FO (however incompetent they might be) a chance to properly evaluate them. Not to mention a better chance at landing a top pick in a loaded draft. If they go out and make a win-now trade for a vet all hope is lost. I'd be done with them until Hammond was canned.
