  1. That would give them an outfield of Soriano, Fukudome/Johnson, and Bradley. Their defense would be terrible in my mind.
  2. Losing Mark Derosa would hurt there team. He was one of their top everyday players last year with Ramirez and Soto. He also can play almost every position if needed. That said the rest of what they are giving up is a joke and that rotation will be sick.
  3. Jeffress and Gamel are both top 50 or better prospects. I just do not think Lawrie should be ahead of them. Jeffress has to have as high of upside as Lawrie and Gamel has been extremely productive
  4. DeJesus had a higher OPS Mike Cameron last year. He would have been 6th in MLB for CF in OPS if he had played enough CF. He also had 12 home runs last year, that is more than Gwynn has hit in his entire career. He fits this team well if he can play CF.
  5. Do we still have one more spot for a closer? In zzz list that is 12 pitchers and with the assumption we will add at least one more starter where does that leave us with pitchers. Someone could be packaged in a trade or one of the relievers could not make the team, but if we add a starter and a closer we would have 14 pitchers although Difelice might now make the club.
  6. This is the first time I have heard the baseball universe thought the Brewers would land CC. Everyone I hear from Stark, to Phillips to anyone else says the Brewers really do not have much of a chance. Some have said the Brewers know they wont get CC, so I do not think it is really the feeling of the baseball universe. I hope the universe is right though.
  7. It is not that I think draft picks make up for him. I would much rather have CC, but what the longer this goes and the more teams that get in play the less likely I feel that it is for us to get CC. That means I would like for us to get the most in return for him. I am not expecting guys to come in and help immediately, but for a mid market team drafts are huge and 6 players in the first 50 or whatever would be very nice. Again I would much rather have CC, but if we do not get him I would rather have a team we get a better pick from to sign. I also really do not want to have to face him in the NL. If he goes to the Giants that is a rotation I want none of even if their offense is bad.
  8. I think the telling statement Melvin made was that if he trading Rickie he would need a lead off hitter. Melvin would trade Weeks for the right deal if he had a deal in place for a lead off hitter, but right now trading Rickie just creates more holes. We have no internal options at 2B or for a lead off hitter (even if Weeks is not a great lead off guy).
  9. I actually am okay with the Yankee's getting CC, because I think we are guaranteed a first round pick then. If the Giants were to get him we would not and if the Red Sox who are targeting Tex got both then we would not. I am now resigned to not getting CC, but am looking to how we can best restock our farm system. The Yankees getting CC, Sheets being the top Type A free agent for another team, and Shouse getting a deal from a team would give us a ton of picks. 3 in the first and 3 sandwhich if all goes to plan from what I can tell. I could be wrong on that though.
  10. That list surprises me. Lawrie is ahead of Gamel and Jeffress which does not make sense to me. Taylor Green is not even on the list which is just wrong.
  11. I would not want to give up Villy but it would make sense that we would have to give him up. There were rumors that Ian Kennedy could maybe be part of a Cameron deal (although it has been denied recently) but if we did get Kennedy we could flip him to the Padres. He seems like someone they would like with him being a young starter. He could be an interesting part of the deal.
  12. I don't think Kennedy is a top of the line major league ready pitcher though. Jermaine Dye who will be 35 in January just got Homer Bailey in a trade. I know Dye is better than Bailey, but in a bad CF market Cameron could get Kennedy in my mind. edit - apparently the Bailey for dye deal is not set in stone or may no longer be on the table at all
  13. That's interesting. I remember reading a scout say that of Hughes, Gallardo, and Bailey that Bailey was the best, followed by Hughes and Gallardo was the 3rd best of the three. Now Bailey is traded, Hughes is struggling, and while Gallardo got hurt I think he would be picked first by everyone. That scout was talked to right before Gallardo got called up the first time. I wonder what happened to Bailey.
  14. I agree with the last part of that completely. I do not think there is a way to get rid of Hall, but someone had brought him up as a part of the Jenks deal.
  15. You do not need to find someone who will do exactly what Hall did, you need to find someone who could be close and not cost 6.8 million this year and 8.4 million next year. That is a lot of money for a guy who plays well under half the games because he can only hit lefties. I think for half that we could find a good option for a platoon.
  16. Yes he was. That was great subtle humor right there. This really was one of the, if not the best episode of the season. My favorite part as mentioned by someone else was when Andy stepped in manure in the kitchen. That was classic.
  17. I agree with you on two of your points. I do not see what Hart has done to show us he can handle CF. He is a average to a little above average RF and that does not make him a solid CF. I would rather have Hoffman or Wood than Jenks, but Fuentes I am unsure of because of his contract demands. Jenks would be under Brewers control for 3 years, so that would be nice but his price is determined by what he would cost for a trade. However, I would deal Hall for anything at this point. At his contract hall's numbers the last two years have been dreadful. He has had an OPS under .740 the past two years. Last year he was 23 or worst out of 27 3B (at least 400 ab's) in every percentage statistic (ba, obp, slug, and ops), yet was number 3 in K's. The only 3B worse than him were Jack Hannahan and Jose Castillo, so I think we could find some as good as what Hall gave us last year. He would be okay as a straight platoon but if we can get rid of his contract that seems like a plus to me.
  18. Last year McClung was the 6th starter. Villy never started a game after May. A bullpen of McClung and Villy gives you two guys who can pitch a couple innings and be long relievers. I trust Villy more late in games because as a reliever he walked just 14 guys in 59 innings while striking out 61. A 4:1 K/BB rate is great for a reliever. McClung walked 26 in 41 innings while striking out 37. That is a 1.5:1 K/BB rate. As a starter McClung had better numbers than Carlos, so why not have him as your 6th starter long man, and Carlos as your late inning guy. Carlos K/BB and K/9 rates as a reliever suggest he could suceed late in games. McClung's numbers suggest someone who could get in a lot of trouble with his walks.
  19. I see the Villy argument like the Marmol argument. To me Villy is more valuable as 1-2 inning reliever not your typical closer. I like him as an 8th inning guy who can go two if the game is tied. Like Marmol I think Villy is better for a team in that role than at closer. Not saying he is in the Marmol category as of the stuff he has but he brings the same flexibility and you lose that with a pure closer role. I think the Cubs made a mistake to put Marmol at closer and I think the Brewers would be making a mistake with Villy as well. Get a closer and put Villy as the set up guy, then you have McClung, Riske, and Stetter for the 7th or whatever you need them for. That is a potentially solid bullpen with the right closer, now I would rather get Wood or Hoffman, but Jenks would be good as long as we don't lose much.
  20. I do not know why this would be the case. Maybe a three year deal would come back to haunt you, but a two-year deal with an option seems pretty harmless. Blake has put up decent numbers every year. Numbers that we would like to have at 3B right now. The Dodgers could absorb a rough couple years from Blake much easier than the Twins.
  21. I mean if this is true it makes some sense for this year. Blake is better than what we have and he is a Type B free agent. If the Brewers are serious about trading Fielder next year this would make some sense as well. However, I still think this was the Twins, especially with no other places reporting it. If the Brewers could move Hall this could work.
  22. I am pretty sure that was supposed to be the Twins not Brewers. They have been in on Blake from the start and have offered two years with a club option for a third from what I have heard. So my guess is they just mixed up the teams
  23. Are you saying that it would be Hardy for Span straight up? If so, no way do you make that deal. Span had a good year last year but his minors numbers do not match what he did last year. He may well follow up last year with another good year, but trading Hardy for him alone does not make since to me because JJ is a top-end SS. He was 4th in all of baseball in OPS. Span had a very nice OPS last year, but I am worried that he had a fluke influx of power considering his OPS in 06 and 07 were under .700 and he had never hit more than 3 home runs in a year.
  24. Pretty much spot for their top ten except Maybin took Santana's spot. I am surprised to see Santana not ranked at all especially with BA ranking him as the #1 prospect for the Indians over LaPorta. Escobar does seem high to me. Homer mentioned his extremely high BABIP in play, he also does not have much power or walk much. He is young and has consistently improved but I still would have had him right next to Gamel in the low to mid 20's.
  25. That would give us a rotation of Gallardo, Sheets, Parra, Bush and Suppan (which is better than the rotation we had until CC came and we were in contention). Our bullpen would be Wood, Villy, McClung, Julio, Stetter, Riske, and another lefty that depends on whether Shouse accepts arby. We really would not have any open spots unless we trade someone our Macha likes the 13 man bullpen like Yost. We have two guys who can start in a pinch in McClung and Villy and some solid options for the 8th inning. I would like another top end guy for the rotation because I am greedy, but I believe Parra could develop into that. Those two transactions would open it up for us to move to what this thread was started to talk about. Getting a left-handed bat. With no trades to get pitching the places for the bat would be 3B or maybe CF if melvin decides to move Cameron which he would not have to.
