  1. How sad is it that I would rather have Craig Counsel starting than Bill Hall? I just expect Hall to get out every time he is up.
  2. I thought there might be some people interested in the Cubs game. Sweet Lou will probably get a free ride for this but leaving Dempster out there when he obviously did not have it was a huge mistake and may just cost them this game. There is a lot of game left but wow, leaving Dempster in to face Loaney and Kemp was just terrible coaching. 4-2 Dodgers
  3. It was a game I didn't expect to win I just didn't want to get embarrassed so I guess it was a win that way. Durham should start for this team every game from here on out. He is the kind of guy that needs to be up in front of Braun and Fielder. Hall should never see the plate again in my mind.
  4. Considering Kershaw, Price, Maybin and Volstad all had significant minutes on playoff contenders that list is pretty impressive and so are the rankings of the Brewers guys. The Rays minor league pitching is just sick. 4 guys in the top 16. I feel Salome's defensive liabilities are held a little too much against him, but I guess a guy like Gamel who seems worse defensively can always play a corner OF or 1st, whereas Salome probably wont move to a corner OF spot
  5. I have a meeting at 2 and then at 4. I will most likely catch about an hour of the game in between the two meetings. Here's to hoping that at around 3 the Brewers have a nice lead to ease my anxiety over not getting to watch the end of the game.
  6. Obviously the Brewers are number one for me. I really like the Phillies too so if the Brewers cant win it I want it to be them. Then I would go Dodgers, Rays, Red Sox, Angels, White Sox, followed by a players strike canceling the playoffs then, then lastly the Cubs.
  7. I think the Cain vs Brantley debate is very interesting. From everything I have heard Cain is a more natural CF than Brantley, but I have no firsthand knowledge. Stolen bases seem to be pretty close. It is the OBP and BB to K rate that Brantley has a decided advantage. Cain has a large edge in the Slugging and OPS stats. Brantley is a year younger than Cain not sure how much that matters. Brantley seems more like a lead-off hitter than Cain and he is a lefty which is a plus for the team as it currently stands.
  8. I meant to say 3B, I have no clue why I typed SS. Thanks for the heads up. It is actually good that he is a 3B or 2B because we have a couple nice SS.
  9. It should be noted that Taylor Green (the other rumored guy) had more walks than strikeouts this past season while showing nice pop. He also is a lefty bat that seems to be able to play 2B or 3B (not SS like I initially put) which are needs as well. Both guys fit needs for this team and both would be unfortunate to lose but totally worth CC and the playoffs. As for the guys this thread is looking at Cain really intrigues me because he looks to be able to play CF well whereas Brantley sounds like he struggles out there.
  10. Gallardo got hurt May 1st and C.C. did not pitch for us until July 8th. That is over 2 months worth of starts so I think a healthy Yo could have done some pretty good things with an extra two months. I understand your point but I am just not sure 10 more starts for Yo than C.C. would not have made up for C.C.'s brilliance.
  11. If CC pitched like he did for us the Indians could have played themselves into contention down the stretch with the way the Sox and Twins struggled. They ended 7 games out which is a ton, but they dealt CC and Casey Blake two guys who could have helped the team even more. However it probably would have been an Astros like surge that got close but did not have enough. Also the Brantley add on to this thread might be premature as Mass saying it might be Green even though Gammons reported Brantley minor leauge thread
  12. With how streaky our lineup is everyone seemed to earn their due. Braun's May and July were outstanding. Hardy had a really nice June, July and August. Hart had a nice start. Fielder had a steady year outside April and August and held this offense together the last couple weeks. Cameron carried us in August. Branyan was solid for a month as well. Ray Durham and Rickie Weeks had clutch at bats down the stretch. If I had to go with one person though it would be Torres oddly enough. With Gagne struggling, Riske hurt and/or struggling, and then Mota not able to close Torres came in a did a good job at a time when we had few options. He coughed up some games for sure but he did what we would expect out of a guy we really got for two not that great prospects.
  13. To add on to this question. Do any blackout rules apply for this package? Would the games be blacked-out for me if I live in wisconsin? I don't know a ton about blackout details.
  14. If there could be a good thing to come from Braun's injury it would be that he has learned to take a few more pitches. In September he had 12 walks, which is the same he had in May and June combined. If he can become more selective he will be so good.
  15. As long as the Marlins can hold the Mets from putting runs up the next couple innings I still feel good about this game. That bullpen is at the point when they dont allow a run in an inning you are surprised and the Marlins have guys who can tie it up in one swing. Santana looks like he has one or at most two more innings left
  16. We need the Suppan of last September and we need to get to Dempster early. We don't even need to score a ton of runs we just need to run up that pitch count because that bullpen has been shaky (the Mets blew so many chances). If Dempster comes out at 75 pitches like Lou had said he would that is 5 15 pitch innings. I would like our chances as long as Soup can keep the Cubs backups from putting up big numbers.
  17. Of course Gagne did not live up to the expectations of the contract but if you could leave the money amount out of it lately he has actually been pretty good. The big difference for Gagne lately had been his ability to not walk people. In his first 19 innings he walked 16 guys. In his last 19 he has walked 3. He still gives up too many homers but when your walks are down and so is you BAA the home runs don't hurt quite as much. His numbers the last month or so make him a very serviceable 7th inning guy if Mota can stay pitching well as the 8th, and Torres can shake off that Cubs games then we may have a serviceable bullpen. Not good but better than the Mets.
  18. I posted this in another thread, but I feel like Yo's performance will go a little under-appreciated because of the way the game ended but he pitched so well. Outside of the short pitch count he did not really look that rusty. Now I know it was against the Pirates but they still have some hitters on their team. Also props need to go out to the bullpen this series. Mota had a rough outing one game, but Villy, Coffey, and Gagne were great.
  19. The main reason is because the Mets free fall kept us in contention and they have been closer to us in the standings. It may also be because the Phillies play the Nationals who with their next loss hit 100 losses on the season. So one back with three to play means the best case scenario is probably ending tied, and we have a much better shot to do that with the Mets.
  20. What will be somewhat lost in the excitement of the Braun walkoff was how good Yo, Villy and the rest of the bullpen were. I like a Yo, Villy piggy back.
  21. Wow I wish I didnt live in Eau Claire. Nice job Gagne. Pretty classy even after the booing that he has been getting. I would expect him to hold a grudge or something, but this is a nice act by Mr Gagne.
  22. So it looks like the Mets will get their game in today. How about they lose tonight and we win out so none of this matters! It would be interesting to see if they would move to a neutral site but I really doubt it. Especially with the division still being up for grabs if the Phils keep losing.
  23. The problem I have with the Brewers bunting is that they are a bad team with runners in scoring position. They are not good situational hitters, so when you bunt a guy over with the way the Brewers have been hitting the odds seem like the next guy will K or pop out on the infield. I am too lazy to check the stats but I dont feel like we have a lot of sac flies. I know we are bad with bases loaded and with RISP in general. That said in a close game when you need one run to either tie or win I am okay with bunting.
