  1. No one is denying him an opportunity. He has had opportunities and not done much with them. He has earned a call up to the majors but he has not earned a starting spot. I think most people would say he can be a 4/5 guy, but not a starter based solely on minor's numbers. That is like saying Brad Nelson has earned a starting spot (now I know his OPS is not nearly as high, but I think his extremely low K rate makes up for some of that). No one is hoping Cruz does not make it, but the truth is even if he did start somewhere next year he would be 29 years old in July already on the downward slope of a career.
  2. Well he has actually struck out one more time in over 70 less at bats so that is a decent difference in K's, not to mention the fact that he has 4 more years of minor league ball experience and is 6 years older, so his strike outs should be much lower.

  11. Cruz is 28 years old and has shown little in the majors. He could stick on a team with a bad offense or a team looking to rebuild. He strikes out a lot in the minors, almost 1/4 of the time, so he will likely strike out more and walk less in the bigs. Once that happens his power numbers will go way down. I think he will be at best a 4/5 OF, but he could get some starts on a bad team that is in desperate need of a bat.

  20. McCann really has not gotten the respect he deserves this year. Soto is having a nice year but in comparison to McCann it is not even close. The Braves playing poorly, is aiding is lack of publicity. His OPS is just crazy for a catcher. As for the MVP talk, I would say Braun enters into it more if the Brewers stay in the race down the stretch. Berkman is still the front-runner in my mind but if someone from a contender gets close he will move to second. If St. Louis stays in it Pujols will be right up there, but there really are not a lot of convincing arguments to be made for other guys.
  21. good point. I forgot about yesterday's game for the Cubs
  22. Looks like Ned and Sweet Lou are on the same page. Marquis has given up 6 through 5 and is out there in the 6th.
  23. I completely agree with this. Soup has some bad outings, but he should not have been in there to look that bad today. He should have left the game early than that. He is not a great pitcher but he is not as bad as people are making him out to be.
  24. Suppan went 7 innings and gave up 3 runs last time out. Yeah he had a terrible start but he is not as bad as some are making him out to be
  25. That is the first I have heard about Cole Gillespie being one of the guys. I must not have been reading closely. I love what he can do but if we lock up Braun and Hart (and Hart can't handle CF) than I am OK with him going. I really want to keep Green and Lucroy.
