  1. I agree with Bernman on Salome. I would actually rather deal him than Green and Cain. I think Lucroy is a better prospect because from what I gather he is a better defensive catcher and he can hit as well.
  2. What makes you think LaPorta could land those guys? None of those guys are available right now according to reports, so we would have to wait until after the season but that does not help us win this year. Now I am not a big fan of giving up LaPorta but if that what takes us over the top then do it. The Dodgers offer of LaRoche, Hu, Young and the other guy was better than what we would give up without LaPorta in my mind. LaRoche and Hu were both really good prospects at the beginning of the year, but have not produced well, yet at the major league level. That does not mean they wont succeed. There are plenty of guy who take a little while to adjust to the big leagues.
  3. I was surprised to see how "low" Soup's ERA was. I guess I thought his last few starts would have ballooned it even more. Here is to righting the ship today.
  4. I would much rather have this be true than the idea that Cleveland wanted them to add Escobar to LaPorta and Green. If the LaPorta is not in the deal who knows what the deal is but at least it does not seem like Melvin is acting out of desperation. Melvin can always up his offer and add LaPorta, but he should not put too much more on that offer. It is crazy how little we know about this trade. Here is a list of guys who have been linked. LaPorta, Hardy, Escobar, Green, Cain, Pediard, Axford, and even some people saying Weeks. Nobody seems to have much of an idea what the deal is other than LaPorta is a key guy either in or out of the trade.
  5. No, it is not CC or bust. I would love to have him but with the prospects the Brewers were offering for CC i think other teams looking to deal will be coming to them. We don't NEED a guy like CC to win, it would just be a really nice perk and would help us later on. We are 3.5 out of 1st and 1 game out of the WC. We dont need to get desperate. I would actually think SF would be interested in the prospects we were putting out there, but I have no idea if Cain is available.
  6. I think that is what is nice about where we are sitting as a team. We should not be desperate, since I think we are better than any of the other WC teams, but if the right deal is there we can go after to make a run at the Division. If we dont get the guy we want we have a ton of prospects and we can work on trades in the off-season.
  7. I am not saying he will keep it up but JJ is 3rd in the MLB for SS in OPS and would be 10th among 3B.
  8. When has Rosenthal been right about a trade? He had us giving up Escobar with LaPorta yesterday according to numerous sources. Maybe he is right on this it just seems like another source being wrong. According to a guy on the Indians board the Cleveland tv is saying the Brewers have not offered Cain in the deal and it is just LaPorta and Green
  9. I think the LaPorta, Green, and Cain trade is where it is at now that we for the first time seem to have matching reports for the JS and ESPN. There has been no mention of us adding another player lately, like the crazy Escobar, then Hardy rumors. If there is a rumor of us adding Jeffress to the list then my confidence that this is actually the deal goes down. It just seems like it has actually been pretty consistent for the last 16 hours. Lets get the deal done. I got on board with this trade for the first time yesterday because I want no part in giving up LaPorta but I am finally on the lets get this done train. If takes another day though I might jump off the bandwagon.
  10. If the Dodgers make that trade how are they going to get a SS? I don't know enough about the Dodgers parts other than LaRoche who is solid, to make a statement on who is better. I would be up for putting Salome in a trade and taking out another guy if Green or Cain is viewed as lesser just because my gut is Lucroy will stick as a defensive catcher and his bat is pretty darn good too. I would not add him to make it 4 guys I would just see if replacing Green for him would be better or maybe even Cain. Although LaPorta, Green, and Salome is a ton.
  11. It is probably time to look at this again. Parra is at 93 innings according to baseball-reference. The goal was to keep him at 170 giving him around 80 innings to work with 14-15 starts. He could be skipped a couple times late in the year when we have extra days off. I think this shows why we need to get another pitcher. Parra is pitching great right now, but he will have to be shut down for a little while and Sheets cannot carry this rotation by himself.
  12. If they get CC and do the maddux trade they have a lot of flexibility down the stretch. Parra is at 93 innings right now. The goal is probably to keep him around 170. With about 14 more starts lefts and 80 innings that would be about 5 2/3 inning a start. So he would have to be shut down some. If we can skip four of his starts that gives him 10 starts at 80 innings much more manageable with flex in the playoffs. There are a couple longer breaks toward the end of the year where he could be skipped.
  13. LaPorta is not going to get Greinke in my mind. KC would be looking for a lot more than him for a pitcher who we would control for a couple years. There was a quote from Melvin saying those guys would not be available until the off-season. They are not going to help us this year.
  14. Yeah the Cubs offer of Gallagher just does not seem like what the Indians need. I actually think the opposite of what Stark said. He said the Brewers plan may have backfired. I think it worked out really well. The indians are going to see the Brewers offer is the best one out there (unless Kershaw really was available then you take that deal in a second as the Indians). I love what Stark was saying about the Brewers dropping what they are offering if it does not happen quick. Every game CC start for Cleveland hurts his value. Thats why people saying Cleveland has no motivation to act quickly are flat out wrong. If they sit back and wait for a great deal they will see the offers drop.
  15. I would love to somehow get LaRoche or DeWitt as our future 3B since Gamel might not stick there and Green could be gone. Getting one of those two would solve the problem we will have in the future. However, i just dont think we have what it takes to get them since we wont and should not trade Hardy
  16. I agree with Molitor on this to a point. Looking at the schedule if we do trade for CC in the next day or two we will get about 15 starts from him give or take one. If we make the playoffs we get a couple more. 15 starts of the CC who has shown up the past month over Bush would be extremely valuable to this team. In his last 10 starts Bush has given up 4 or more runs 6 times. He had some nice starts scattered in there as well but that is over half the starts being bad. CC has given up 4 (never more ER) 3 times and two of those were in 8 innings. He has also averaged just under 8 innings his last 10 starts. He not only helps the rotation but he helps the bullpen a ton.
  17. I see a couple of problems with that. We need to do something in my mind if we want to make and succeed in the playoff this year. A playoff rotation of Sheets, Parra, Suppan, and McClung isn't very intimidating. Also, if you trade Prince and bring up LaPorta you will have 8 right handed bats in that lineup. Maybe 7 if you can get a platoon at 3B. Don't get me wrong I have been as big of LaPorta fan as there is, but if Gamel can't stick at 3b he could be the one who replaces Prince at 1B. We could still sign sheets, we could still trade Prince, and we could try to make another trade to either get a lefty CF or 3B. We would have pieces in Hardy or even Weeks to trade if Escobar is ready.
  18. Is Jeffress supposed to pitch today since his start got moved back? All this trade talk makes me a little anxious. I am also asking this because I would look at going to the game if Jeffress was pitching for sure, so any insight would be great
  19. There are some major differences in the Young for Garza deal. Young actually had a full-year in the majors unlike LaPorta. Young was also a higher ranked prospect than LaPorta as a minor leaguer. He was 3,3,1, and 3 on the top 100 list his last 4 years. If you look at Garza's stats his first couple times up they were not that impressive. He was actually pretty hittable. I know he had a lot of upside, but if we traded for a guy like Garza but a little lesser of a prospect because LaPorta is a little lesser than Young we would not be getting a who ready to help us a ton this year. He definitely would not be a top tier starter.
  20. So as I go to bed the rumor is CC for LaPorta, Green, and Cain. I will be shocked if the pieces are exactly right even if it does happen tomorrow. I liked the LaPorta, Green, and Axford deal better obviously. Our OF depth will be hurt by this but that is okay. I like keeping Green because I am of the feeling that Gamel wont cut it at 3B, but my new plan would be to somehow get either Dewitt or LaRoche from the Dodgers. If we could somehow get one of those guys to replace Green as a future 3B guy I would be happy with this trade. As much as I love LaPorta, if Gamel cannot cut it at 3B then it seems like there is not a spot for one of those two. I do love prospects so it will be hard for me to get really excited about this until CC wins a couple games.
  21. Who are the scouts that say Hardy has lost a step? I believe that they are out there I am just wondering because I just got MLBtv and every opposing team announcer has raved about Hardy's defense. Now, I know announcers are not always the best talent evaluators but they do see a lot of players and they have not been afraid to criticize guys like Weeks, or Prince.
  22. To get the first round pick the Dodgers would need to finish where exactly? Is it top half of MLB in record? I am not too up to date on this stuff.
  23. I actually think McClung could go back to the long man role with Villy being one of the late inning guys. I guess it could go either way, but I think I would feel more comfortable with villy in a tie game than McClung
  24. It always surprises me when people say Hardy is a below average fielder because when I watch games he always make the routine plays and makes some really nice plays as well. I know that stats back up that he is average or below but when I watch the game he looks good. It must be hard for me to judge range
  25. McClung gives up too many runners to be a late inning guy in my opinion. He has worked out well as a 5th starter in my mind that is where his value is. If we get too many pitchers hopefully he can be the long guy and CV can be the 8th inning guy or at least 7th inning guy if Gagne finds some stuff.
