  1. That was a nice start for Parra there. He came back well from the 4 pitch walk to Mauer. It is so important for him to find his control early. I agree with the comments on Prince too. He just seems to need to find the stroke he had a week ago. He has had a rough two series.
  2. In my opinion McClung was left in at least one batter too long there. If the Brewers wanted Carlos in for Kubel (but the HBP didnt give him enough time), why not bring him in against the next batter then. oh well at least they still have the lead.
  3. Well at least the bullpen is rested. If McClung can just settle down and throw his fastball for a strike he will be able to be alright. He breaking ball has some nice movement on it.
  4. The Royals shouldnt want too much young pitching back. It looks like 8 of their top 9 prospects are pitchers. I am guessing it will center on our bats which works well because that is what we have a lot of.
  5. Nice start for the White Sox. Up 1-0 in the first
  6. Where does Greinke rate in value to Dan Haren? The D-backs gave up their 1,3,7,8th ranked prospects along with Eveland to land him. I personally do not think we would have to give up as much to land but I also dont know how their prospects ranked compared to ours. If he doesn't compare well with Haren are there any past trades that are similar? I would love to have Greinke on this team. I believe a Yo, Greinke, Parra start to a rotation could be great.
  7. Is that only for guys who did not make their beginning of the year top 100? Or did they put out another top 100 list that I have not seen?
  8. Gamel and LaPorta are both in. They made special mention of both including how they thought Gamel could be in Milwaukee next year. Also, I think I saw that ex-Brewer Will Inman is in, I just saw the names flash by though so I could be wrong.
  9. This trade makes no sense to me unless Sabithia signs for way less than what he says he wants. Why not just keep Sheets and Fielder. Fielder wont get his huge contract for a couple years. If the Brewers trade Fielder it would make sense to be for young pitching not a guy about to break the bank and who may not age well.
  10. I did not put that together at all. Melvin definitely did not rule out trading the "untouchables" for a guy he controlled more than 2 months. Have you seen anything to imply Greinke is available? I know there has been speculation here, but I was wondering if there was more to it. Greinke is the guy that intrigues me because he is young and putting it together. Bedard's current injury issues scare me right now.
  11. well at least rickie showed up to bat today
  12. That is really good to hear. I would assume Gamel, LaPorta, and maybe even Jeffress are untouchable (Jeffress more because his ceiling is so high and his value is probably low after the suspension). I like that he is looking for a 2/3 guy who would cost some players but not the big guns. It would be interesting to know what guys who are available fall in that level of pitchers
  13. I asked this in another post but thought this thread would be the better place for it. I am in Winter Park Florida, just outside of Orlando, for the summer and I was wondering what the quality of the The Florida Collegiate Summer League was. I am will probably catch a couple games just for the fun of it, but I thought some of you might have some insight into any players in the league who might be worth watching specifically.
  14. What is wrong with Suppan? He actually is having a nice year. His ERA is still under 4 even with a couple terrible starts. He eats up innings and gives the team a chance to win almost every time he is on the mound. 2 more years and the price he is at is pricey but not that bad in my mind.
  15. Ask and you shall receive I guess. Jeffress' line looked great. Here's to Braddock doing the same thing.
  16. Getting Maddux is the kind of move I like over a CC trade. Maddux gives us stability and will cost so much less. It is weird because some people act like we need another top line guy to get to the WS but who did St. Louis have after Carpenter (Suppan, Weaver, Reyes, ?) and how about Colorado last year (Francis, Cook, Jimenez, Fogg). I am not saying this advocating staying put and doing nothing, but I am weary of a move that reeks of something we will regret later. Maddux is a move that makes sense if it just costs Gwynn and a lower level guy. Sheets, Suppan, Parra, Maddux, and McClung really is not that bad, especially if McClung can keep this up. Then if something crazy happens and Yo can come back we have Sheets, Yo, Soup, Maddux and Parra which would be great.
  17. whoops, sorry looks I missed the discussion on this. thanks mass. I like Lintz more than Dykstra and probably makes the parts easier to match up if you compare it that way. Fredrickson has looked good early but I would love to still have either Garrison or Inman. I am okay with having lost one of them, but both is tough. Hopefully Ordozzi, Fredrickson, and Lintz pitch well and soften the blow of losing them both
  18. I don't think anyone thinks we would have to trade both of them. It is more who to trade if either of them since Cleveland will likely ask for one of the two. A quick clarifying point on my last response is while the positions LaPorta plays are ones we can fill a power bat like his is not. That is a much more concise version of what I said above.
  19. I think LaPorta is more valuable than people understand. I dont think we should trade either Mat or Matt for a rental that is just my opinion. However, one thing to note is yes both Gamel and LaPorta are power hitters but LaPorta is on another level in the power department. LaPorta is hitting 1 HR every 13.6 AB, whereas Gamel is hitting 1 HR every 20 AB. That is over 10 more HR per year. That is not to take anything Gamel, who hits for better average, but LaPorta can straight up mash. Those two guys should only be traded for a guy who will be here for a couple years not a guy who will be here 2 or 3 months. I want to get to the Series as bad as the next guy but those two are guys I wouldn't trade. For all of those who say we should trade LaPorta because we have other guys like Gillespie, LaPorta is a potential all-star and Gillespie doesn't really seem like he is. It is not just having guys who play the same position but guys who hit where he hits. LaPorta is a slugger through and through and he keeps a nice average and OBP to go along with it. I guess I am just not willing to trade a potential Braun or Fielder for Sabbithia for three months. The only way I would trade either of those two is for a pitcher whom we could control for a couple years. But i am of the opinion of trading Prince this off-season which would allow both LaPorta and Gamel to play even if Gamel cant stick at 3rd
  20. Who were the guys picked with the Linebrink picks? I guess we can now look at this trade for what it turned out to be. i just dont know which pick was which.
  21. Gamel is not best prospect in the minors right now. He is great but not the best. You are also undervaluing LaPorta and what he is doing. His home run numbers along with a near .300 BA and an over .400 OBP are great for a guy in his first full year of minor league ball. I know he is old for his league but I would not trade a guy with that for a three-month rental. I think LaPorta is going to be a major piece for the next 6 years, especially when Prince inevitably leaves. Even next year if Hart can cut it at CF then we have a crazy-powerful OF with Braun, Hart and LaPorta. Then we hope Gamel can stick at 3rd.
  22. Frederickson did give up a home run and through 5 has given up just two run. He also has 6 K's and most importantly he hasn't walked a guy.
  23. It is good to see Rickie get rewarded for hitting the ball hard tonight. Yesterday he had some nice hits they just didn't fall.
  24. Sheets is really fun to watch pitch once he gets in a groove. He has such great control and his tempo is so quick. He seemed to get his curve going last inning. His ERA is now under 2.7. He also seems to be following his pattern of getting better as a game goes on.
  25. Nice play by Hardy there. Infante was out at first but it was really close. Sheets with no K's (now one) and the Braves have hit some balls hard, but only one to show for it.
