  1. What is Weeks value in a trade right now? I know Brewers fans are mostly down on him, but I was wondering if he had much value? I was thinking about the Carlos Lee trade in which the Brewers got Mench, Cordero, and Nix none of whom were top end players in fact Cordero was really struggling. The Brewers even had to give up Nelson Cruz. I know Lee didnt have the same value as CC but it is an interesting comparison if you look more at major league players instead of all prospects considering Cleveland is a team expecting to contend again next year.
  2. See I really don't think we have a guy who replaces what LaPorta brings. Yes, we have guys who can play his position but we don't have anyone near him in terms of power (although Gamel's numbers are near him). It is great to have a power bat who seems to take walks at a good rate. That is where the potential to be Nelson Cruz seems to fall apart for me. Nelson always struck out over twice as much as he walked. LaPorta has not show that at all this year with 42 BB and 60 K. Those are respectable numbers for a masher. His OBP is .110 points higher than his BA. I think his numbers project pretty darn well. If we do give up LaPorta I don't think we should have to give up much if anything else, for sure not a top end prospect.
  3. If the Brewers decide JJ is the SS of the future Escobar would be a good guy to center the deal around. Hardy has had a respectable May and a really good June and from the games I have seen is playing really nice D. Salome would be good to center it around as well because the have Lucroy right behind him and Kendall will be back next year. If they trade Escobar they do not have many shortstops in the system that I know of so they would be thin there. LaPorta plays a position that can be replaced 1B or corner OF, but his power is second to none (like Escobar's fielding is). After thinking if a deal centered around Salome with other prospects could be enough then I would say go for it. A deal with Escobar would be one I wouldn't want to give up too much else with. And a deal with LaPorta isn't one I really like at all, but I think a lot of others are warming up to it. I just think he will be a great "power hitter" in the majors. I might just be over estimating his ability. I just don't want to give up a future Braun or Fielder for a 2 month shot at the playoffs.
  4. Yes the Brewers would have to come up with a better offer than two draft picks but I don't think LaPorta or Gamel need to be in the mix to do that. Escobar, Salome, and others have some good upside.
  5. To me the only way the Brewers give up a major league guy is if neither Gamel or LaPorta are involved. However, I dont see Melvin trading for a SP to help us in the race but then trading away a starting position player.
  6. I think the comparison to the Santana trade is valid. The Mets gave up their 2,3,4, and 7 prospects to get Santana for a full-year (even if they did not sign him). I dont think the Mets top guys are as good as the Brewers. Gomez (#2) was ranked 52 overall. Guerra (#3) was actually 35, and neither of the other two were in the top 100. I would guess both Gamel and LaPorta would be considered around top 25 talent, Laporta was already 23rd at the start of the year and Gamel will skyrocket up the rankings. So, I think this deal should be able to get done without either of those guys and should only be made if you dont have to give either of them up Edit. The other reason I like the comparison is because the if the deal is made to trade for CC locking him up before free-agency would take a lot of money. I am not saying he going to get what he is asking for but he definitely test the market unless a team gives him a huge offer. He does not have a no trade clause like Santana did but in a similar case only a handful of team will really be pursuing him hard.
  7. Braun's bad last 7 days hasn't been as bad as Prince, so that is probably why, but I do think once Braun signed the contract extension he won the fans over. As for numbers over the past week Prince is 2 for his last 23 with no extra-base hits, 1 BB and 7 K's. Braun is 6 for 27, 2 2B, 0BB and 5 K's. There is a little difference there but not too much. They have both had some bad at bats lately.
  8. Just thought I would bring this post back up. This is a serious question. For those of you who think the Brewers will (or even should) trade Gamel or LaPorta to get CC do you think Melvin is lying in this interview, do you think he will change his mind near the trading deadline, or do you simply think he should be willing to deal one of those guys? To me the statement seemed to say he was going to trade Gamel or LaPorta for a guy like CC, but that he would do a prospect package which is what I am in favor of. Now again you have to take Melvin's comments with a grain of salt because he has be known to not want to tip his hand.
  9. I am kind of surprised at the call for Melvin to need to make a move. We are currently 3-3 on a 10 game road trip that mostly everyone said they would be happy if the Crew went 5-5. Every team looks a little flat once in a while.
  10. That seems pretty arbitrary to me. Why should there really difference between being one game down and one game up? To me the only way Melvin thinks about trading Sheets is if we are 5 or more games out and there are numerous teams between us and the WC. Even if we are about 5 games out Melvin would more than likely only deal Sheets for parts that are still going to help him compete ala the Carlos Lee deal. Melvin wouldn't concede being out of the playoffs that year. Also with the runs teams have made the last couple years to get in the playoffs like the Cubs, Rockies and Phillies I think saying you are too far out of it at a game out of the WC is kind of strange.
  11. I was going off Prince's stats his first full year and LaPorta has shown a little more power throughout his short time with the minors than Prince did. So, I would say 25-30 home runs will be about right. To answer your other statement about the trade you proposed being fair. I think the point everyone is making is an OF prospect isn't what the Brewers are going to be looking for if they deal Prince. It will be top-end pitching.
  12. I think an argument can be made for guys other than Braun to start. But, I don't see an argument for why Fukudome should start over Braun, unless OBP and runs are all that matter. Braun has a better OPS, more hits, RBI's, HR, and even one more steal. Since, the debate is no longer Braun vs the field, but Braun vs Fukudome (and Griffey to a much lesser extent) I think we can unite in support for Braun. Maybe I am wrong though.
  13. Thats the thing. LaPorta would not need to come in and mash. I would say a low-en expectation for LaPorta would be .260 with 25-30 home runs (I could be way off). The main problem I see with replacing Prince with LaPorta is we no longer have a lefty in the lineup. The loss of Prince's production is in my mind made up for by another top-end started that we would trade to get him. However, the lineup is so unbalance unless we could get a lefty in CF and Gamel could play 3B I think we would be hurting.
  14. I guess I do not get why they need a hot streak. Two games out of the WC and 4.5 out of the Central is fairly far in contention. Are you saying the only way Melvin wont deal Sheets is if they are in the lead in either the WC or division? Two high end comp picks like we got for Cordero netted us Ordozzi and Lintz. That is pretty nice value especially when you add 2 more months of Sheets with it.
  15. You realize the Brewers are two games out of the wild-card right? It would take more than a non-hot streak to get the Brewers to think they are out of it. The Brewers are only a half game more out of first than the Braves, so why would we be selling and they be buying? The Angels have a ton of pitching I dont think that is a likely destination. They have Ervin Santana, Lackey, Weaver, Garland, Saunders, and Kelvim Escobar is coming back (but will be in the bullpen because they are so stacked). The Phillies are the team that makes sense, but again I dont see the Brewers trading sheets unless the next month is terrible
  16. If the Brewers trade Prince it will be for pitching I would guess. They have two of the top hitting prospects in all of baseball in Mat Gamel and Matt LaPorta and both could factor into replacing Prince. I dont think the Mets make the best trading partners to be honest. It would be a team with a top-end young pitching prospect.
  17. Yep, I do think it is a coincidence. The Brewers only lost 3 games he appeared in in the past month since he has been out Mota has factored in at least 3 losses too. There are a lot of other factors. I like the idea of a bullpen with Gagne, Riske, and Mota all ready to work in the 7th and 8th. Gagne getting hurt did help in letting us see Torres as a closer, but I really do not think it factored into our being 11 games over.
  18. I agree with most of that. I definitely dont think we were supposed to win this series, but on paper we supposed to win when sheets in going against slowey.
  19. Slowey definitely has something. He has great control and keeps hitters off-balance. That being said the Brewers have simply missed some fat pitches so far this game. Prince missed some right over the plate as did Hall, but other than a couple mistakes Mauer isnt moving his glove for pitches.
  20. I dont think a guy on first base is really a jam. Sheets is doing what he does. He starts out pitching to contact and then he begins painting the corners and dropping his nasty curve just like we saw the past inning
  21. I don't get FSN at home but i am out of the state for a month so I just picked up MLB.tv for a month and I have loved watching Hardy play defense. He may not have amazing range but he has looked really good to me out there. He has made some nice plays the past couple days.
  22. 3 K's in one inning against Livan? That's pretty sad. Here to another 0 on the board for the Twins. Against the Twins I dont feel comfortable with a five-run lead. They are the kind of team that scratches out one run in an inning, than two in the next and all the sudden are right back in it.
  23. That was a nice play by Weeks and a nice job by Parra to come back from 3-0
  24. That is how you follow up a three run inning with a quick 1-2-3 inning. Parra has had the two walks but has looked nasty outside of those
