  1. Corey's hit looked more like a home run according to the dot on Gameday than Braun's. How much did Braun's get out by?
  2. Well Cameron's night has went as expected considering past history
  3. I wasn't really talking about Yo in terms of money, more in terms of how good our pitching would have been with him. Sheets, Yo, Suppan, Bush, Parra is a good rotation in mind, especially given how well Soup is pitching and Parra is turning a corner. You are right the Gagne contract is bad. Turnbow is only making 3.2 that is less than Bobby Howry and Scott Eyre. The Cubs dont have anchor contracts like Gagne although Marquis will be out of their rotation if Hill figures it out and he has a big contract. But the Cubs dont have to worry about anchor contracts like the Brewers do. But what pitching signings have they made lately that make you say, wow that was good. Wood was great at the price, Lilly has been bad this year, and marquis is not good. Dempster is still making good money but I guess you can say he was a good signing, but it has only been part of a season.
  4. FTJ that is a nice list for payroll and I did not realize how close the pitching price was. However did the Cubs really do a better job spending that money? If the Brewers had Gallardo right now it would look a lot different. Take Dempster out of the Cubs rotation and you have a bad rotation. I did quick math and the Brewers put about 37 million into their top 7 guys, not counting Capuano. The Cubs have about 42 million in their top seven starters. Injuries to Gallardo and even Cappy (he would be better than McClung) have hurt the Brewers, whereas the Cubs starters have stayed healthy. Yes they did make shrewd deals to get Lee and Ramirez but they also need the money to lock them up long term. Ramirez is making 15 million and Lee is making 13.5 million add Soriano's 14 million in there that is 3 starters making 42.5 million. They also have 4 starters making over 6.3 million. According to ESPN's salary page the Cubs have a payroll over 40 million higher than the Crew. That is quite substantial. I am not at all using that as an excuse for why were are not playing better but it definitely is a benefit for the FO. The Brewers would have had to decided who to keep out of Lee and Ramirez. It is just a reality of the situation.
  5. ESPN insider is rumoring the Dodgers are looking to trade for a veteran middle IF'er and that they have something in the works. I don't have insider to know what it says but Hall would fit there if the Brewers decide to deal him. Even though I am not a Hall fan, I am not sure if I want them trading him until after the season.
  6. What a great night of pitching obviously topped-off by Welch's no-no. Periard with a nice night and Cody dominated.
  7. The F.O. has done a better job with a bunch more money to spend, so it is kind of hard to compare. They have the money to lock up anyone they want, like Lee, Ramirez, and Zambrano. They can afford to give out big contracts like Soriano, Fukudome, and even Derosa got a nice size contract. Ted Lilly has been alright and they over spent a little on Jason Marquis. They did nice to get Wood stay for a discount rate and they have developed some nice players in Soto, Marmol, and Theriot (even though I think he is going to like Nick Punto and come back to reality after one good year) and they did well putting Dempster in the rotation. That is most of their team and just looking at that I dont think the front office did amazing. I think this a team with a very good lineup and a very average rotation. Right now Z and Dempster have ERA's in the mid 2's and then their other 3 current starters are 4.5 or higher.
  8. I feel like Hardy and Hall are hard to compare defensively. Hall makes some great plays but struggles with routine plays often. Hardy does not make the spectacular play but he makes routine plays. I for one would rather have a SS like Hardy with our defense the way it is. As for at the plate Hall's power is great, but he K's a ton on a team that K's a ton and his Ave and OBP are low. However, Hardy hasn't hit for any power and his Ave and OBP are low as well. To me it is the return to can get. If it is close I would keep Hardy, but if you look at my name it is obvious I am a Hardy fan.
  9. The Dodgers would have a fit for hall with Furcal being until who knows when
  10. The Brewers win one while playing poorly. The Cards blew a 4 run lead and lost. The Reds lost. And the Cubs are behind 3-1 early (although the seem to like playing from behind). Big Z at 65 pitches in the 3rd inning. Could be a great great night.
  11. I smile when I think we got Mota for Estrada.
  12. I doubt you would put Gamel after Prince because you would have your only to lefties go back to back. That would make it pretty easy late in innings.
  13. Nice line for Cody 7 innings, 2 hits, 1 walk and 6 k's. He should be joining Brevard soon Escobar with an interesting line 2 hits, 3 RBI's but also 2 error
  14. Yo peaked at 16 from what I can tell and Hendrickson peaked at 90. There are some interesting other guys who made that list for the Brewers. Nick Neugebauer hit 17. Here is a link of the rankings since 1992.
  15. I think LaPorta, Gamel and Jeffress are locks to be top 100. LaPorta and Gamel have the results and Jeffress has the upside that those lists love. Salome should be in in my mind. For a catcher is numbers are phenomenal. Escobar is a guy I find interesting. His gloves is terrific and now his bat is catching up and he is showing power. not sure where that would get him. However, it is great to have a system that has 3 guys who should be in safely if they keep producing and a couple others who could make it as well. Add in 6 high picks and this draft and our system will be looking pretty good again.
  16. Actually Braun is 10th in BA, 9th in OPS and 4th in SLG according the sortable stats for outfielders at espn. stats He is also 1st in HR, 3rd in RBI's, 1st in hits, near the top in extra base hits.
  17. I was thinking about it today and began to wonder where would our minor leaguers rank if there was a top 100 list put out right now. I was not really thinking of exact numbers but how many of our guys would be in the top 100. LaPorta and Gamel are locks. Then you have Escobar and Jeffress who I think would crack the list. You also have a guy like Salome who would seem deserving. LaPorta was 23 at the start of the year with guys like Joba, Ellsbury, Longoria, and Buchholz on the list, so he should jump up. Gamel's name was brought up in a BA chat as someone who could go from not being in the top 100 to being ranked between 20-40. Jeffress made BP's list at 76. It is fun talking about the power 50 rankings so I was just wondering where they would fall overall.
  18. Huntsville's bottom 4 have 0 hits and the team still has 11 hits. The top 5 have 11 hits and 4 walks. Escobar and Salome have 3 hits a piece. LaPorta has a nice night going 2 for 3 with a 2B and 2 BB. The first seven guys in that order are batting above .280. 6 guys have OBP's over .370. 5 guys have an OPS over .900 This team is crazy
  19. Here is a would you trade a pitcher like Gallardo (pre-injury) if you had nice depth, for a hitter like Prince if he puts up numbers even remotely close to what he did last year? I am guessing some teams definitely would, maybe not though. That is the type of pitcher a lot of people have been talking about. A young prospect who has gotten his feet wet in the bigs and looked major league ready with high up-side Major league players do get traded for major leaguers when each team have needs that fit the trade. The Twins gave up Garza a good prospect who had pitched in the bigs for a year for Delmon Young. Josh Hamilon for Edison Volquez (although i guess Volquez was a prospect).
  20. BA had a chat today with a couple scouts and were asked Looney4baseball from Boca, FL asks: What prospects not in the top 100 coming into this year have made the most progress and will be in the top 20-50 next year in your estimation? The guys answer was Trevor Cahill and our very own Mat Gamel. Not too much of a shock but still some real nice pub for Mat link
  21. I almost wish Kendall wouldn't have gotten a hit because I wanted to see Parra get through 7 for the first time
  22. I wonder if Parra will be back out for the 7th. I am assuming he will unless they pinch hit for him if his spot comes up
  23. Parra is downright afraid of Wigginton. 3 BB on like 13 or 14 pitches
