    LaPorta is raking right now. He started a little slower than I thought he would but his numbers seem great. Nice average, good OBP, the power is there. How long will he be in AA if he keeps hitting like this. Huntsville has such a nice lineup

    Just because a player says he is ready doesnt mean you pitch him. You everyday players will always tell you they are good to go but you still sit them every once in awhile to give them rest. Players are almost always going to tell you they can play, as a manager you have to be smart enough to know if it is a good idea to play them.

    Melvin did pay gagne 10 million but that doesnt mean he is going to have a bionic arm all the sudden. It was not a good idea. Maybe Cordero did go 5 or 6 games in a row last year, but gagne isnt Cordero and we are going to have to live with that.

    For some people it seems like when Yost makes an obvious mistake they still blame the players. Yes Weeks could have gotten a hit in the 10th but we still had a two run lead. Yost made a mistake. His job is to put players out with the best chance to succeed and bringing Gagne out there again was not the best choice. He made a mistake and it cost us.

    There actually is no rule that you have to pitch your closer in a save situation, especially when he has pitched 3 days in a row. We have a good pen this year and there were capable guys to close it down. I really dont think any of us would have complained if Riske would have blown this save, because that move would have made logically sense

    This is on Yost more so than Gagne. There was no need to run him out there 4 days in a row

    Why is he out there? And no this isnt second-guessing yost. 4 days in a row is crazy with guys like Riske and Mota available

    Who pitches the ninth if we are ahead? I am assuming Gagne has pitched too much lately.

    Stetter is much better when he actually throws strikes. Would he be more valuable to this team than Turnbow right now? It does not seem like they want to use Turnbow in close situations so Stetter seem more valuable.

    Dont we have 14 pitchers on the roster right now? It is not like we are short on guys to throw out there.

    it is nice to see braden looper is coming back to reality. Against San Francisco nonetheless. 4 runs and 8 hits already in the third with no outs. Make that 6 runs on 9 hits

    Oddily enough I thought Yost should have left Suppan in but I was happy that he went to Shouse because I like that he is going to his bullpen a little quicker than last year. I feel like with Mota, Torres, Shouse, and Riske pitching well, it better to go to the bullpen earlier than last year.

    I think Hardy has good potential to stay and he may move to 2nd if Escobar makes his way to the bigs

    What a great couple minutes. The Cubs were booting the ball around on defense, Fielder homers, and then Griffey homers to put Cincy up 8-2. Obviously the Fielder homer is the high point, but it is fun to see the Cubs struggle as well

    Man I remember when we got him and I thought he would be lucky to stay on the roster for the year. I just had no idea who he was, but what a get by Melvin.

    I definitely see the point in the slugging part, but I think the five spot is really important because it directly effects how pitchers pitch to our best power hitter. I just dont think Prince would get walked the same with a hitter like Hart behind him. I could be wrong, but with Hall struggling to make contact this seems to be the case to me.

    Bill Hall has truck out 18 times (11 in the last ten games) and walked once. Whereas Hart has struck out 11 times (6 in the last 10 games) and walked three times. Hall has also grounded into a couple DBP's where Hart has not. Obviously the double play thing could be a fluke but Hart does seem to run better and is less of a risk to be doubled up it would seem. If teams are going to walk Prince you cannot, in my opinion, have someone behind him who is striking out a lot and more of a risk to ground into double plays.

    Fontenot isnt bad but he isnt that good. Remember the Cubs went after Kaz Matsui in the offseason before turning to trying to trade for Roberts. If a team wants Matsui who isnt that great (Career OPB under .330) they must not have a ton of faith in you. He might not be a bad spot start guy but he is not an everyday starter in my opinion and neither is Theriot.

    One night of Fontenot and Theriot doing well does not mean it is a good thing for the Cubs offense in the long run. They were going up against Josh Fogg last night (yeah I know he was decent against the Crew) so dont act like this will be a consistent happening. There is a reason the Cubs wanted Brian Roaberts badly and why Cubs fans wanted Theriot out of the lineup. They just are not that good.

    Yep, this one doesnt look good on paper, but on paper I am guessing we liked Parra vs. Figeroua, didn't like Suppan vs. Perez, and if we were completely honest (even though Sheets if our ace) would feel like we stole one if Sheets beat Santana. So their ace vs. our starting who is pitching the worst may not look great on paper, but who knows. I am not sold on their lineup putting up big numbers so I feel good about this series.

    In 2.1 innings Bryson K's 6, walks 0, gives up 3 hits and 3 runs (all unearned). Looks like he was just left in too long, but he seems to have dominating stuff for his league
