Through May of last year JJ had 15 home runs, 46 RBI's, was batting around .300, with an OBP around .350, and an OPS over .900. All those numbers dropped significantly after that. It just goes to shows it is a long season.
There are reasons why people (including myself) were calling Theriot a bad player. In his first year as a full-time player he batted .266 with an OBP of .326, with very little power. I never really thought he was a great fielder either as it looks like he takes a while to get the ball to first base. Maybe I am wrong and this year will be his coming out year, but I am guessing he will slide back closer to his career average. His start to the year reminds me of Kendall's. A lot of weakly hit balls that fall into play for hits.
This is a game that will make me frustrated with some brewer fans. They are going to look at the box score and see that Gagne blew a save but they are not going to know about the terrible officiating in the 9th
Because we pitch him up in the zone. The Cubs announcers have said thats what he likes and that is what we are giving him. And because we usually get owned by guys who arent that good.
Grounder to Prince. Yo went to cover the bag but he couldnt beat Johnson. Prince dove to tag Johnson and Yo jumped over them and looked like he jammed his knee. He is up walking around now
On a note for everyone who doesnt get the Minor League forum LaPorta hit two more home runs for 9 on year. He has 8 in his last 11 games and in 56 minor league games he has 21 home runs.
This is just sad. I actually feel bad for the guy. 43 pitches, 6 runs, 4 walks, 4 hits, and only two outs. I can't see how he can be on the team after this.
A couple of people have made comments about AA being more talented than AAA and was wondering if that really was the case? I am not arguing since I am relatively new to following minor league ball. I just wanted to know if AA is really the more prospect-ladened spot.
The AAA team does have some nice outfielders but Nix is not going to help our major league team and LaPorta is a better prospect and player than the other guys you mentioned. I am glad to see Nelson swinging the bat well again and Irabarren has been solid, but should any of these guys block LaPorta from moving up to a better league. I would much rather have LaPorta jump from AAA to the big leagues than from AA to big leagues. There is a reason there are levels in the minors. The better players and competition are at the higher leagues. I don't care if Nashville is bad, LaPorta can still get a taste of the next level of pitching. He has a great shot to be on our major league roster next spring because his bat is that good. From all I have heard about his fielding he is doing well so there doesnt seem to be a need to hold him back for that.
I really dont understand the wanting him to stay in AA all year. He is already an older prospect so in mind as long as he is succeeding why not continue to move up the system. I would feel better about him contributing next year for the big league club if he had some time in AAA under his belt instead of just a full year at AA.
I know it is packed but guys like DeFelice, Ungs, and Gardner are not really prospects. I don't know if Narron is but I thought with the lack of high end prospects in AAA Narron might get a shot if he keeps pitching well.
Sam Narron has been pitching well lately. He is old for AA, but he has looked good. Would he be someone who could be bumped to AAA to see how he pitches up there?
I said it a little while back but it is surprising to me how many guys on that team who seem to have the talent (and are backing it up with the numbers) to be solid starters in the big leagues. LaPorta and Escobar were getting love before the season. Gamel is looking great. Salome is starting to heat up, and Brantley is really intriguing. Add a guy like Cole Gillispie who look to me like he could be a reserve guy, this lineup is solid. The fact that they are outperforming the likes of Prince and Hart in their day is really encouraging.
