  1. I am sure this has been asked before but how is Gamel's defense this year? His bat is obviously doing well in AA. I was surprised that he wasn't on top 100 lists before the year, but I think he will be soon.
  2. Ramirez is great, but after watching Utley these past couple games he might be the best player in baseball right now in my mind. I was happy when he only hit a single when he was up. It is hard to pick. They are both special talents, and do it different ways, but I would love either of them on our team.
  3. I agree that Brantley looks like an ideal leadoff hitter in a lot of ways. To me his numbers make him look like a better prospect than Gwynn Jr. He walks a ton, does not strike out, he steals some bases. If only he he could generate a little more power because like one of the posters said pitchers will probably nibble less if they dont fear his bat. The more I look at his stats, his age, and even that he is a lefty bat, I like what I see in the guy. I honestly believe the first four guys in that order will be starting or playing significant roles on this the big league club. LaPorta is just sick right now. Gamel is raking but he is being overshadowed by LaPorta and questions about his defense, Escobar is starting hit a little better but showed in Spring Training he was someone to watch and then add in Brantley and even Salome. Enjoy it while it lasts Huntsville fans.
  4. If you want to talk about Weeks (I am guilty of using this as weeks thread as well) you can go to thread already going on him. It is on page 2. Here is the link http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=11274?page=8
  5. Cameron picking up where he left off in Spring Training. Home run in the first.
  6. Wow, this stinks. I have been calling for Riske in close games when Ned hasn't put him in. I guess i was wrong
  7. Well winning when grounding into 3 double plays in 3 innings is hard to overcome too. So I guess both teams are finding ways to get outs.
  8. Is that on Hart or is it on Sveum? From what I remember you look to the 3rd base coach and he tells you what to do
  9. I have other things to nitpick like Hardy being equal to Theriot, but calling Soto the best young catcher in baseball seems like quite the stretch. What defines young? He is older than Joe Mauer, Brian McCann, and Russel martin just to name a few. And although Soto's numbers might be better than those guys right now I am pretty sure he isnt near their level. Now considering this is his first full season I dont know if you can make this statement. But it is interesting you say that Kendell wont keep his numbers up but yet you believe that Soto will. I think Soto has some talent but lets remember, small sample, just the start of the year.
  10. One week is a long time in terms of hot streaks. I mean in his last three games Week's is hitting .333, with an OBP of nearly .500, has 4 RBI's, 4 runs, and has just one K. So, you could say he is on a hot streak. i know it has been long but just shows how quickly bats can change.
  11. Yes, guys like Theriot, Johnson, Cedeno, and others are hitting well right now, but that could all change in a week and it probably will. People get on hot streaks then they fall back to their norms. And if our pitchers don't get you excited, how do theirs? Sheets will be back (I guess you could disagree but I am going by what the team says), Yo looked great, Suppan minus one start has been terrific, Villy found his stuff last game, and our number 5 has struggled. Compare that to Zambrano who is tough, Hill and Lilly who have had one or two good starts combined (yes I know we wont see them), and Dempster, who will regress like Suppan probably will, and then Marquis who is nothing special. I just dont see how this team is head and shoulders above us. They are on a hot streak for sure but those things fade.
  12. How would Brantley's high .300 to near .400 OBP compare him to Pods' career OBP of .333 with only one year above .351. I think he projects as a much better hitter than Pods.
  13. I feel like ever year there needs to be a guy who is the whipping boy (aka Wes Helms, Chad Moeller) and often it is for good reason. For some reason Gross was chosen to be that guy this year by a lot of people. Even when he started to have better numbers the past couple games people were all over him. It was funny because with Prince, Braun, Hardy, and Weeks all struggling there was enough blame to go around but for some odd reason Gross took the brunt of it in a lot of cases. Now I know people have been calling out the other guys, but you would think Gross was an everyday starter who single-handedly costed the Crew like 5 games the way people trashed him. I was one of the people who wanted him as a replacement to Jenkins so I am biased but I never got the hate for him.
  14. It is surprising to me to see LaPorta ahead of Jay Bruce. It is also interesting how different the opinions must be on Gamel and Escobar. I dont often see Brantley ahead of them as prospects (or Jeffress and Salome with their suspensions for that matter) On a side note, and definitely not wanting any part of the Linebrink trade debate, on that list Garrison is at 91 and Inman is at 48.
  15. I really like Gross and what he brought to the team. I know a lot of people didnt but I thought he worked the count well and had some pop to go along with nice enough speed. However, I don't think he would ever crack the Brewers everyday lineup with Hart, Braun, Cameron, and good outfielders in the minors. I like getting a nice looking pitching prospect for him. I would be interested to see where the minor league guys think Butler would rank in our system.
  16. I am really longing to see 8-10 run outburst, but I would gladly settle for 6 runs. In the last 13 games they have scored over5 once if I am not mistaken. They did it 3 times in the first 6 games. Lets get back to that. I am sick of seeing the Cubs scoring big lately while we are struggling to get to 4 runs. This is compounded by the fact that my boss and good friend is a Cubs fan. I agree with BrewCrew I think Braun is ready to breakout.
  17. Those comments don't mean people definitely wanted to use , but maybe they did. They are valid questions even if they dont want him in. Why is he on the team if Yost won't use him. He hadn't pitched in forever. He shouldn't be on the team if you are not going to use him. You like Yost, I get that. I disagree, but I get it. But to bash everyone who doesn't like him like we are whining idiots doesn't make sense to me. Nor does it make sense to bash the guy who makes in-game threads for every game. Enough with that though. I am wondering what the lineup will look like today. Obviously it is a Rivera day. Will any of the other regulars like Hardy maybe get a day off? Here is to hoping Parra has a nice 7 inning start in him today. Lets get back to how you were pitching at the start of spring training young man
  18. Colby the comparison of the Milwaukee to Huntsville is a great one. That Huntsville lineup looks like it could be starting for the Crew in a couple years if a lot of them weren't blocked, but for some reason they are not scoring a lot of runs. Gillespie is just starting to hit and Escobar and Salome are struggling. But with Brantley, Escobar, Gamel, LaPorta, Gillespie, Salome who are all top prospects along with a guy like Errecart who can hit this team should be hitting a lot better. They are also similar in that at 11-7 we should be happy but we all know they can be a lot better than what they have played.
  19. I don't remember many people calling for Turnbow in the game sunday. There were some sarcastic comments as to whether he was still on the team but I don't recall many calling for him. Most were calling for Riske. As to taking shots at Woogie that just does not make sense to me. Thanks for all the work Woogie and I think this thread would be funny no matter what side of the Yost debate you are on. If you are frustrated with him it is obviously funny. Also if you are supportive of Yost who thinks people blame him for everything that goes wrong this is funny is an ironic way.
  20. Maybe I am crazy but I am at the point that I would rather have McClung pitch than Turnbow. It is not that I think McClung is good but that I just don't trust Turnbow at all. Turnbow just has no control. He has walked a batter every time he has pitched and has only had one inning this year that two guys didn't get aboard. I know it is an extremely small sample but in five outings (just under 5 innings) he has given 7 hits, walked 6, hit 1 batter, and only stuck out 2. That just isnt the guy to put in in the 9th with the game tied, just to give him some confidence. That is like pinch hitting your worst bench play with a game tied in the bottom of the 9th so he can start feeling better about himself.
  21. Really you cant see how using probably our worst reliever in the 9th inning of a tie game is a bad idea?
  22. Turnbow huh? Why not Riske? I guess if Turnbow is in your pen you have to use him, but I would have thought Riske here.
  23. well i was going to say Prince just has to get Braun to third and not strikeout but I guess that works
  24. Well Corey will get a chance to redeem himself in this inning.
  25. Duncan is a lefty but they pinch hit Ludwick for him
