  1. How accurate are Fangraph's defensive rankings? Because Baez doesnt rate very well with them. According to Fangraphs, Baez was definitely not the Cubs best defensive SS. Russell is better. He isnt a great SS according to most metrics. He was also behind Zobrist at 2B and Bote and Happ at 3b. His ranking when I got the innings to where he would qualify 2b - 18th (behind Zobrist at 14) SS - 35th 3b - 77th Maybe Fangraphs is way off but he definitely isnt the Cubs best fielding SS and he doesnt look like a great 3B either. He is a really good 2B thought
  2. Unbelievable when you realize he got that terrible roster to the playoffs last year. That team lacked starting pitching, relief pitching and good hitting. I guess someone had to be the fall guy
  3. I would much rather play the Cubs than Dodgers. Dodgers have the most talented and balanced roster in the NL. I dont want any part of them round one. The Cubs dont scare me. Their bats are more inconsistent then ours. Their bullpen isnt reliable and their starters are good but not special.
  4. At this point only DeGrom should take 1st place votes away from Yelich. There is no good argument for Baez anymore.
  5. How would you rate the teams in the playoffs? In the AL I would go 1. Boston 2. Astros 3. Yankees 4. As 5 Indians Looked at the stats and man are these teams impressive. They are the top 5 teams in the AL in OPS - Boston and New York have a decent edge but all are good. All are in the top 6 for starters ERA - Houston and Cleveland have a pretty solid edge though. All but Cleveland are in the top 4 for bullpen. Houston at the top by a bit. Honestly this is going to be a great bracket In the NL I would go 1. Dodgers 2. Brewers 3. Rockies 4. Cubs 5. Atlanta They are all top 6 in OPS with the Dodgers as number 1 and Rockies 2 and the Brewers, Cubs, Braves. The Dodgers have the best starters ERA, then Atlanta and cubs/ Brewers are 6/7. Rockies not in the top half again. The Cubs have the top bullpen ERA but their two best pieces are not there and the bullpen hasnt been great. The Brewers are right behind. Dodgers also in top 5 but Rockies and Braves are bottom half I think the Dodgers are the most complete team. I dont want to have to play them in round 1. I think the Brewers are next in line. They are hot and that bullpen is crazy good. It just doesnt feel like the Cubs year. Maybe they get hot but I would be surprised.
  6. Their pen was always terrible. I remember having arguments on here with people before the season. To make matters worse (or better for us) their starters often dont go deep into games
  7. If the ump keeps this zone up swinging early makes a lot of sense. Not going to be many walks
  8. Not working the count much today but Quintana hasnt been missing the zone much.
  9. That type of at bat is why I see Javy regressing a lot next year. His swing and miss rate and swing at pitches out side the zone rate dont seem like they will hold well.
  10. Today better not matter for this. WAR isnt that close. BA, OBP, OPS are not even close. Only thing close is counting stats and slugging. Yes Baez is a better defender but WAR factors that in. Baez is a really good player but Yelich has simply been better
  11. I wonder how much of a leash Gio gets with both Peralta and Anderson available. Counsell has been quick to the bullpen down the stretch and there is no doubt he will be today. Turnbull will be interesting because he had a very nice last start but got rocked the game before that and really was a very average AA pitcher this year. He strikes guys out and that can be a problem for this team. The Cubs will be going at the same time. The match up seems to favor the Cards quite a bit - Flaherty vs Montgomery. Recently, Montgomery has been going about 4 innings and giving up 3 runs his last 6 starts. Flaherty has gone almost 6 innings with 2 earned runs. Lets stick to those numbers again today guys
  12. It is not just that Yelich has been amazing it is that over the last month Baez has ops .775 and over the final stretch he is under .500
  13. Do the Cubs go Montgomery tomorrow? Since getting back in the rotation he is essentially averaging 4 plus innings and 3 runs per start.
  14. Saw this on Twitter Christian Yelich last 14 PA 3 run HR Walk Walk Walk Walk Walk 2 Run HR Walk Walk Strikeout Walk 2 Run HR Strikeout Solo HR That’s 4-6 with 8 BB 4 HR 8 RBI .667 BA .857 OBP 2.667 SLG and 3.524 OPS
  15. not really How not? Win today, tomorrow and Monday and they for sure win the division
  16. Feel like the cards are wasting too many chances here. They don't have a good bullpen. Worse than the cubs
  17. Surprised they are letting hamels bat here. He was lucky to just give up two the last two innings
  18. Be nice. It is all Baez has left over yelich
  19. Hamels losing control. Going to have to go to that bad bullpen early
  20. Briggs you had good calls on Gennett and Davis. Is that enough? Davis obviously isnt an MVP candidate but he is very solid. Davis would be an interesting fit on this team. Maybe with Cain you could hide him but Braun is pretty good too. Maybe you could teach him first base but Aguilar is pretty good too
  21. And 8 games under for the twins is generous for an average season - especially in that division with royals, tigers and white sox
  22. If voters only had one vote for one person, maybe. But seeing as the votes are ranked (1-10 I think) it shouldn't make a difference. Baez and Yelich will be 1 and 2 on almost every ballot. The wild card is going to be how many voters put deGrom 1 or 2 and which of Baez or Yelich they put at 3. I would vote Yelich for League MVP and Cain for team MVP, however odd that sounds... Listening to Yelich talk he would say the same. Cain has been the most important guy on the team this year for his play on the field and what he has brought to the team. He is a "gritty veteran" who is actually a great baseball player
