  1. The brilliance of Stearns is on display tonight. Imagine this team without Cain, yelich or chacin
  2. I follow the team closely and forgot a couple of those guys even played for the Brewers. Repressed memories maybe
  3. I would make a huge trade for Realmuto or Degrom. I would be open to smaller trades for Ramos, Wheeler or Gibson. Not a ton that excites me outside those guys. I mean I would be fine with a few guys if they were cheaper than expected like Archer, Gausman, etc
  4. Pina is one of the best catchers in the game. Base runners don't dare run on him. His defense is much more important than Arcia's. What he does offensively is just gravy. Everyone should stop being a hater. Not only is he an invaluable part of this team, you could make an argument he is the team MVP. 53-35 before he went on the DL, 2-8 while is was on the DL, and now 4-3 after coming off the DL. What? Seriously this is supposed to be in blue right?
  5. Catchers are either too expensive like Realmuto, hurt like Ramos, or guys like Chirinos who would be an upgrade but not sure what they would cost.
  6. They are doing the same exact thing right now. They even admitted they are pretty much disregarding the defense so they can upgrade the offense. It's not the same. That team was bad all around defensively. Right now the Brewers have an elite defensive outfield, plus one of the best young defensive shortstops. Pina is no slouch behind the plate either. Average 1st base defense + above average at 3rd. Below average at 2nd will not kill this team imo. Exactly. This team has a terrific of and has shown willingness to make defensive subsistions late in games. They value defense so they obviously think shaw won't be a complete trainwreck - maybe due shifts, or arcia, or thinking shaw looks ok out there. Why do people here just assume Stearns has lost his mind. Maybe he is wrong and that will sure but maybe he has seen more of shaw than us and knows a little more about the makeup of the team. Full disclosure I dont love this move but I am willing to let it play out before acting like I know it won't work
  7. At some point in this thread can we just decide to watch shaw play 2b before saying he can't do it? Maybe he can't but the team has had him practice there and maybe they think he is fine there. This isn't the same regime that trotted out yuni and kotsay out there simply disregarding defense in big games
  8. And many here will still claim Stearns made a mistake not upping his offer for Quintana. Quintana now has an era higher than every Brewer starter I wish I was more confident in the cards actually holding on to a 6 run (now 4 run) lead
  9. Moving shaw to 2b has guaranteed Arcia at SS in my mind. We need his range
  10. Yelich is currently playing his way into NL MVP conversations. He is 7th in OPS and is right their for the batting crown. His OPS is 1.660 over his last 7 games! Who would have guessed this a month ago? Chase Anderson has also turned a corner especially if he can work deeper into games like last night. Chacin has been great the last month. There is definitely reason for optimism
  11. The overvaluing of Philips here is kind of crazy. Keon broxton was ahead of him this year. He is a 4th outfielder. Lopez isn't good.
  12. Lopez is not a legit prospect. Another way to say it is we got two pieces that help this team without giving up a top 150 prospect
  13. Well pretty much no one here liked this deal. I not a huge fan but I do trust so earns overall. This.feela like it has to be a part of something else or Shaw has looked better at 2b in practice than we think. At least we didn't give up a ton
  14. A Wheeler/Cabrera trade would definitely improve this team
  15. If they got that deal that would be great
  16. Why would white just be a utility guy here? He would start everyday at 2b
  17. Yelich is currently making a run at the NL batting title. His .314 average is right there with Freeman at .319. So in the NL he is top 5 in batting average, top 10 in OBP, top 15 in slugging which leads to top 10 in OPS - including now the top OF, while being top 15 in steals. That is an incredibly great line.
  18. They probably said the same thing to start this year, and then they realized they weren't very good either...they are a team caught in between because Sano and Buxton haven't become anything close to what they were hoping for. Oh I get it but I still would be surprised if they sold a pitcher with another year.
  19. It is not just that it is a Cubs move. Look at the Hamels thread in the trade forum. No one really wanted him. He just isnt that good. You can say all 5 of those pitchers are arguably better than ours but one hasnt pitched for a long time and was bad before he did. Chacin, Peralta, Chase, Miley and Guerra all have a better era than anyone not named Jon Lester - actually Miley is better than Lester but that seems unlikely to stick. You can argue on past results that the Cubs rotation is better but not on what they have done so far this year. Again all 5 of the Brewers starters have put up better numbers than the Cubs 2-5. Actually almost all the pitchers suffer the same problem of not being able to go deep in games - all in the 5 1/3 to 6 category. This isnt spin it is just facts. Obviously it is only ERA (and K/9 and WHIP if you want to look at that those too) but the stats show the rotations are fairly equal
