  1. So no free agent acquisition is impressive? If you get one cheap he fell into your lap? If you pay for one that doesnt count either? The fact of the matter is Stearns went out an got 3 guys who are easily outperforming their contracts in Cain, Jeffress and Chacin. Add on top of that getting Yelich without selling a huge chunk of the farm. He didnt without giving up any of our top pitching and without giving up Huira. That is impressive. And he got one of the top NL Ofers who is controlled for a while. I am not sure what a GM can get credit for in your mind
  2. Stearns made 4 of the best moves of the off season 1. Trading for Yelich. Guy has been a stud. Number 3 in war for NL OFers 2. Signing Cain. Number 1 in war for NL OFers 3. Signing Chacin. He isn't perfect but he has been one of the better free agent pitchers at a fraction of the cost. 4. Signing Jeremy Jeffress. Way less than other reliever got He is not playing with a full deck. He is missing what was supposed to be his number 1 and number 3 starters. Braun and Thames have both missed a lot of time. Vogt had to retire due to injury. And yet the team is right there for the playoffs. And pretty much has everyone under contract for next year when they will get a healthy Jimmy Nelson back. Stearns has made mistakes but he gets a credit not angst for where this team is right now
  3. 1-3 has been on base 5 times in 2 innings and we only have two runs. The opportunities have definitely be there. This offense is showing a little life.
  4. Man do Yelich and Cain give the team good at bats. Wish Aguilar was batting right here. Prove me wrong braun
  5. Imagine this team with Jimmy Nelson and a healthy Zach Davies instead of Suter and say Miley. Nelson, Anderson, Davies, Peralta, Chacin would be just fine. Nelson and Davies each went 6 innings or more on average too. Would have saved our bullpen
  6. Take out the missed pop fly and he has given up 5 hits in less than 2 innings. That is bad. Make that 6
  7. Suter doing his best to let this lead slip away quickly. He just isnt a guy who should be starting games. I know we have had injuries but Burnes should be there instead of Suter
  8. Agree completely. Yelich is now 3rd in the NL for WAR among OFers, and is young, and is relatively cheap. What more do people want?
  9. And at this point or at least very soon Arcia deserves to be our starting SS since no one in the middle infield can hit and at least he plays amazing defense
  10. Why would we want Gray?
  11. Brewers now have the #1 and #3 outfielders in the NL based off WAR. That is pretty impressive. Aguilar is number 6 for 1b, Shaw is 4 for 3b. Thames is top 10 at 1b and broxton is actually top 20 in of. This team has the pieces they just need the bottom of the order to be improved.
  12. ESPN's article on the reception Hader received tonight. No negative spin at all. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/24161011/josh-hader-returns-brewers-mound-twitter-scandal-applause
  13. Not watching the game. Just saw the box score. Is Aguilar really playing 3rd? If so how has he looked?
  14. I have always assumed if the Brewers wanted Realmuto they would need to give up Huira or Burnes. Not sure how they could do it without one of them
  15. I think it is only light if you are assuming Corey Ray is the guy from last year not the one turning the corner in a big way this year and if you think Meideros is the guy from two years ago not the guy this year who has had some top level games and if you think Brown is not what his numbers suggest
  16. What he said was terrible but suspending a guy for what he did at 17 is odd to me. I am interested to know why this would be a good idea and am open to changing my mind. If it came out that another player was in a hate group in high school but had put that behind him should he still be suspended? Honestly I was pretty rascist as a high school kid but I didn't have social media to post stupid things on. So is the issue that he said it or that it was still open to people? Just trying understand the suspension part. If he is suspended for 3 to 5 games that is ok I would just find it to be an odd precedent
  17. Yes, you are correct. And that is exactly what they will do. Yep and they could end up with Darvish and Chatwood again. Great pitchers don't make free agency all that often and when they do they are already older and cost a lot. And other teams like the Yankees dodgers etc will have the money to spend too
  18. I think it could be argued that you can trade those guys this off season for a guy who isn't a rental like Machado. Does this team lose a single free agent? I would guess Davies becomes expendable in a trade if the team wants to go younger. Wow, if 25 is old (Davies), I'm downright ancient. Not only does the team have guys like Burnes, Peralta, Woodruff and Houser that are immediately knocking on the rotation door, there are guys such as Zach Brown and Kodi Medeiros that are likely to be knocking on that same door by September or early next season. I agree that some of that depth could and probably should be used to firm up other roster/system holes. Old meant service time. Should have said cheaper instead of younger. Davies will start costing more soon
  19. Also to the person who said the Cubs have a 4-5 year window I would ask who will be pitching there even in a couple years? Their staff is old and honestly not performing all that well. Their farm is super bare. They are going to have to go out and buy some starters the next couple years.
  20. Hiura maybe but Peralta and even Burnes? Next season for starting pitching option we have: Chacin. Guerra. Davies. Anderson. Nelson. Woodruff. Peralta. Burnes. Suter. Trading away a Peralta or a Woodruff would not create a hole. It was actually ease a logjam a bit, especially if they are traded for a pitcher. Ideally in the next year or two there would be a spot for Peralta, Burnes AND Woodruff but I don’t see that happening. So trading one of them now isn’t the end of the world. Obviously they have to be part of the right deal. I’m glad Burnes wasn’t traded for Machado. But if we’re going for Syndergaard or Degrom heck yeah I’d include two of Peralta Burnes Ortiz or Woodruff. I think it could be argued that you can trade those guys this off season for a guy who isn't a rental like Machado. Does this team lose a single free agent? I would guess Davies becomes expendable in a trade if the team wants to go younger.
  21. I get what you are saying, and I'm glad they did not trade for Quintana. But can we stop with the "emptying the farm" and "gutting the farm" talk? This system is very talented and very deep. A couple big trades, while perhaps depleting some top prospects, isn't going to change that. And that's a credit to the team's scouting and minor league coaching staffs. This system has as much talent in it now as during the Fielder/Weeks/Hardy minor league years, and is likely better, as it has more top level pitching and isn't nearly as top heavy. This system is built to weather making several big trades to improve the big club. Yeah I get that and it was hyperbole. At the same time the Brewers would have had to give up a ton to top the Cubs deal.and I don't think that was worth a middle of the rotation guy
  22. For the quintana love people do realize in terms of era he would be our 5th starter right now right? And that he also is averaging something like 5 1/3 innings per start. Last year his era with the Cubs was 3.74 although he did average 6 innings a start. People are mad at Stearns for not emptying the farm for that guy?
  23. Dozier would be a very nice add. I cant imagine he would cost near as much as Machado but he would still requite a decent prospect. If going after Dozier allowed them to have the ammo to go after a catcher or starting pitcher than I would really be all for it. Although personally I would rather see Burnes and Woodruff get a chance to start games over trading for a middle of the road starter
  24. In the young controllable arms category I would say Burnes - no way. he really shouldnt be included in much of any deal. I have been able to watch him a few times and he has really good stuff Woodruff- no for a rental but I would include him in a deal for someone who had an extra year or two on their deal. I think the Brewers are misusing Woodruff right now Ortiz - yes for a rental. I just dont think he will be a great pitcher. Just my guy
