  1. Brewers related. The Cubs rotation did not looked special against a bad Marlins team in a pitcher friendly park. 15 runs in 13 plus innings combined for Lester, Darvish and Quintana. Kyle Hendricks had a very good start. Also I agree with much of what has been said. This team has a bunch of professional hitters now. Cain, Yelich, Braun, and Shaw are all very good. Just get a second baseman! Also I love how CC is using the bullpen. Hader in the multiple inning role like Miller in Cleveland is great. Albers looks solid in the 8th inning role.
  2. No problem with Santana on that at bat. Decent ump and bases are loaded
  3. I am sure it is in the thread but what pick do we lose for Cobb if we sign him above 50 million?
  4. Never had a war above 1.4 before that. In fact never was above .5 outside the 1.4 and last year so calling him a 3 plus war guy isn't really accurate. Doesn't mean it isn't a good signing but Morrison is not even close to historically 3 plus war play. More like a .5 war player
  5. Honestly I think it has to push Archer being traded. They simply won't compete while he is there. They need prospects. We just dont know if they like our prospects enough it if they want to wait until the trade deadline when the market might be greater
  6. To say the least. Fans will talk themselves into thinking we got an ace because Stearns gave him a big deal when the reality is he hasn't been good since 2014. No one would sign this guy to a big money long term deal unless you were super desperate. I know ERA isn't the end all be all but over almost 180 innings Cobb put up a 3.66 era. To say that isn't good is ridiculous. In his only year he has pitched since 2014 he pitched well. I know his peripherals aren't sexy but he somehow gets guys to swing at pitches outside the zone and gets outs. No one is saying he is an ace. People are saying he is a 2 or at worst a 3 because when health that is what he has been
  7. I disagree with every sentence in this post. Haha. I know. Thought maybe he didn't find the blue font
  8. If the Brewers can get Cobb at that price they just made one of the best signings of the off season. No way Cobb goes for that low. I sure hope he does because even with his low swing and miss rate cobb produces. Worst era in season is 4 and his whip is almost always around 1.25 or lower. He doesn't have a lot of innings on his arm and only one injury is anything to worry about being an issue. the others were about as fluke as can be. He isn't an ace. He won't be paid like one. But if he produces like a 2 or 3 which he has all his career then the Brewers would be getting an amazing deal
  9. I have noticed a section of our fanbase who is quite pessimistic on Anderson and Davies to an extent. It is kind of strange. Back to Santana I dont think there is anyway he gets dealt right now and I am actually pretty on board with that. If Braun can play first the corner OF and 1B spots have a ton of depth. Thames started 18 games in the OF last year and could provide depth there at 1B obviously.
  10. Not sure why Anderson wont be able to repeat last year. He was actually really good the second half of 2016 as well. It wasnt just a one year thing. Johnson just said he expects Nelson back around June so that seems likely he is with the team for at least the 2nd half of the season if not more. This team won 86 games last year with a worse lineup and worse rotation (without adding another starter). Chacin is so much better than Garza. Not sure why the team as it stands with Yelich and Cain cant push to win 90 games. Add another solid starter like Arrieta or Cobb and then more. What held this team back down the stretch was the lineup. That has been rehauled in a big way. There is a lot of depth and talent there. They are a 2nd baseman away from no weak spots. The bullpen is solid as well. Why would assume Lester and is going to bounce back and Quintana is going to be better than last year but assume the Brewers starters who were better or equal in Anderson and Davies will get worse? Especially when Anderson and Davies are younger
  11. I don't think that rotation is good enough to compete with the Cubs. Honestly, I think it would put us around 86 wins, and the exact same position we were in last year. Cobb doesn't move the needle at all IMO. That rotation lacks firepower at the top. Should Lester regain form, the Cubs' top 3 pitchers would be better than our best. Only adding Cobb to the rotation would be a disappointment in my book. I would like him as the 2nd addition to the rotation. Not sure where you get that from but Chase Anderson and Jimmy Nelson both put up better numbers than any Cub pitcher last year when you look at WAR and other stats. Darvish was right near them (even though I know he is better pointing out last year stats). In fact Davies was better than Quintana and others according to quite a few stats. Not saying the Brewers guys are for sure better but they are underrated by many here and I get that because they are younger and not completely proven. Here is a link to show just how good the Brewers top 3 really were - http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2735370-mlb-position-power-rankings-brs-final-top-80-starting-pitchers-of-2017
  12. I dont think the rotation as currently constructed is really good. With a healthy Nelson it is quite a bit better. People seem to expect a dropoff with Anderson and Davies but I am not really sure why. Nelson is more of a question mark but if he comes back healthy then you have 2 guys who pitches like at least number 2 starters last year in Nelson and Anderson and a guy who was at least a 3 in Davies. You add Chacin who is at worst a 4 and you have the makings of really solid rotation. Add an Arrieta, Archer or Cobb you have what you need. People also seem to forget how good the team pitched post all-star break with losing Anderson and Nelson for a huge chunk of time - they had the 8th best ERA in baseball and 4th best in the NL behind only the Dodgers, Nationals, and Cubs.
  13. I agree on one but not two depending on what they think about Nelson. Say Arreita or Cobb sign or they trade for Archer Arrieta/Cobb/Archer Anderson Davies Chacin Woodruff then Nelson That is good enough. They dont need to replace Chacin. He is a solid pitcher. Very good for a number 5. Woodruff and then Suter and Gallardo can fill in case of minor injuries. Major injury then maybe you make a trade
  14. The D-backs made their deal one day ago. Heck, not even.... 14 hours ago. Maybe it's worth waiting just a bit longer? And what options are peeling off? The backup, backup options like Garcia? There's still 3 of the top 4 FA arms available. Exactly. At this point things are working great for the Brewers to get a starting pitcher at a good price. The market just isn't there for Arreita and Cobb and even Lynn. As much as it sucked that the Cubs were the ones who got darvish that essentially took two teams out because it seems like the Dodgers were only interested in Darvish. The Twins may still be a player since Odorizzi is just a guy but things are very quite. Then you have the Nationals and maybe Yankees and Cards but not a lot. The Brewers can wait and if Tampa keeps making terrible deals maybe their asking price for Archer drops too
  15. I am trying to figure out what the transaction thread will look like if we actually sign Cobb or Arrieta. We have already spend so much time looking at these guys that will we really have anything new to say? I guess we can have 10 pages of discussion over the actual contract! Honestly I would be shocked if we dont sign Cobb or Arrieta before the end of the month.
  16. Cubs would get a pick after competitive balance B somewhere in the high 70's Well that is good. I keep seeing people post first round in places. Thanks for the update
  17. And no one has proof the Cubs didn't want arrieta just that they like darvish and a draft pick more which everyone would agree with For sure. We have no idea either way. The whole point is don't believe (or at least take with a grain of salt) whatever info is pushed out in the media. None of this stuff is 100% factual either way. For an example right in front of us take the Darvish thing with MKE. All these linked things to him, intentionally put out there by someone. Then after the signing MKE is saying it was all exaggerated. who knows what to believe, some info gets pushed out with an agenda behind it that could be partially BS. Or it could be legit. Who knows. Whole point was that just because one reporter said it, doesn't mean it's true. Exactly but the same goes for pretty much everything but it is often stated like fact by posters. There must be something wrong with Arrieta if the Cubs didnt go after him has no real facts behind it. The Cubs could have made an offer like rumored or not. The Cubs could have just liked Darvish more. The Cubs could have valued them equally but liked the idea of getting a first round pick to replenish a terrible farm system. Who knows? The point is it is stated as fact to prove people's point. So if I dont like Arrieta the Cubs didnt want him because he is damaged goods becomes a great narrative to prove my point. And if I want Arrieta the Cubs offering him before signing Darvish proves my point.
  18. Darvish is 31 and just got a 6 year deal Darvish had Tommy John surgery Cobb had the blod clot and rib injury in 2011 and was very good after that. His concussion was on a line drive to head. Really injury prone
  19. And no one has proof the Cubs didn't want arrieta just that they like darvish and a draft pick more which everyone would agree with
  20. ummmm I knew something looked wrong there
  21. Exactly. Tired of hearing about 1's, 2's, and 3's. Especially because by the definition of most here there are like 6 number 1s in baseball. I posted a link a while back that graded pitching using a ton of different criteria and if the Brewers we're to sign Cobb they would have 4 pitchers in their top 32 from last year and Chacin at 56.
  22. Not to mention pitching in the AL East with a dh compared to pitching in the NL Central with a pitchers spot batting
  23. Cobb just fits so well. Not as high cost with very good upside if he regains his breaking stuff. Allows us to keep Santana and a very good lineup. It is all an if but if Nelson comes back like last year a rotation of Anderson, Cobb, Nelson, Davies and Chacin is very solid. No weak link and you have Woodward there if anyone slips up
  24. Why would a team ever want to do Boras a favor? People who dont want Arrieta are going to assume this report is bogus because it doesnt fit their narrative of Arrieta starting a rapid decline as emphasized by the Cubs not wanting him. People who want Arrieta will use this as proof he is still really good. Honestly, I am fine if we get him and fine if we dont. I want one of Arrieta, Archer, or Cobb
  25. There have been numerous reports that Cubs made a big money offer to Arrieta - https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/jake-arrieta-reportedly-turned-down-big-money-from-cubs-before-they-signed-yu-darvish/ From the article via Heyman The narrative that the Cubs didnt want Arrieta is being overplayed. They did want him. They just seemed to want Darvish more unless Heyman is completely wrong here.
