  1. I looked at my Shareholder packet and noticed a Green Bay News Anchor is being nominated to be a director. Any idea why he is being nominated?
  2. For some reason, Black reminds me of Jim Slaton from the 70's. Maybe a litle Joey Votto, too... 😉 While with the Mudhens, Hiura's K rate was 32%. Since being released and picked up by the Angels organization, his K rate is worse. It is 34% with Salt Lake. Hiura seems like a nice guy. I'm not sure what happened during the pandemic, but it seems like he is either incapable of making the change, is not willing to make a change, or nobody is showing him how to make the change. Turang realized something needed to change and, on his own, took the initiative to get better. I believe Black will be much better with time. It is early.
  3. It seems like they are back to trying to pull everything.
  4. Tom Wachs: better play by play than the Fox guys. sorry…. Couldn’t come up with anything better.
  5. Funny how AJ says one at bat can change an inning. How about a crappy call by the umpire?
  6. The same thing will happen with Hoskins.
  7. Nothing like keeping a weak slider middle middle… again
  8. Oh yeah... the strike. Mrs. Samurai and I (relatively newly married) had scheduled a week-long trip to Colorado. We had tickets to the front row down the line in Mile High to see a Rockies game. The week before we left, they went on strike. Sigh...
  9. I recall many years ago when Boston finished last in their division. Peter Gammons (Red Sox Apologist) got on ESPN and said something to the effect of: "I still think they are the best team in the AL East." That sealed it for me. The Yankees are up there simply because of the rivalry from the late 70's and early 80's. Not to the same frustration I have for the Red Sox.
  10. https://www.mlb.com/brewers/video/joel-payamps-in-play-out-s-to-elvis-andrus-q4hwvb?partnerId=web_video-playback-page_video-share I liked this catch by Frelick, too...
  11. I saw that they were #4 overall on Rivals. That is crazy. 247 Sports has them at 12. on3.com has them at 19. Not much consensus, but it is much better than the ~40-50 rankings we had before Fickell came in.
  12. At least for one year... Longo has coached some of the best Wide Receivers in the game. Hopefully that is what brought Hilton to Wisconsin. Picking up Hilton gives Wisconsin the #12 recruiting class. That is "only" 4th in the Big Ten, though.
  13. I don't disagree with you. A manager is, in essence, a delegator. Like the captain of a ship, he needs to know how to delegate and trust his coaching staff. That said, he still needs to define "true north" for the team -- how are they going to try to meet the goal (whatever that is). It would be interesting to see how CC would have done this year with this team. My feeling is that he would not be doing as well as Murphy because I don't think CC would adapt his managerial style to match his personnel. Again, only speculation. When listening to a recent Cubs sports radio broadcast via YouTube (can't find it), the blame was solely on the GM.
  14. Do you think Pat Murphy changed anything related to game-day strategy and approach? If managers are simply plug and play, then anybody on this board could hop in the dugout and be a manager. @Brock Beauchamp is my first choice 😉
  15. There are other ways that the Brewers could put together a package to get a starter. One of those involves sending some prospects. Hang on, that is taboo to say. The Hader trade yielded fruit in the years following the trade. Once the trade happened, the team went into a tailspin. Players had said that losing Hader affected the clubhouse chemistry for many reasons. Among those were his clubhouse presence along with instilling doubt into the players minds about whether they were next. Yes -- MLB players should be aware that they are only pieces to a puzzle and could be moved at any time unless they have a no-trade clause. While I agree that all trade offers should be considered, I'm hesitant to think of a real-life baseball team simply as a fantasy baseball team. "I'll trade you Willy Adames for Christopher Sanchez because your shortstop sucks and I need another starting pitcher." I'm not sure I would pull the trigger unless the Brewers come out ahead on the deal.
  16. I would have to put the culture change overseen by Murphy and Weeks. Murphy seems to handle things very well which produces winning baseball and a good clubhouse. Here are some examples of how I think Murphy has taken the team to the next level: You don't have to "mishit home runs" to be good offensively. The Brewers are one of the top scoring teams in baseball by making solid contact and making good decisions at the plate. He keeps his players engaged. We get frustrated when some of the regulars get days off, but I think it can be a good thing. This helps with morale. He listens to the players. The Adamas / Contreras lineup changes last week tells me he listens. I believe that produces more of a willingness for the players to buy into Murphy's strategies. I would add managing the pitching, but I'll put that superlative on Chris Hook. For me, managing is more than X's and O's (or whatever the appropriate analogy is for baseball). Murphy and Weeks seem to have a very good clubhouse culture. Of course, winning helps with that. 😉
  17. I was very, very frustrated last year with his swing. After he came back from Nashville, he was standing tall... what? He took the initiative with his dad to get back to what he does well offensively. Good job by the Brewers to not try and change him. His defense is crazy. That play at the end of the game from the hole at short? How do you get that type of velocity on the ball without setting your feet? I'm very happy he is a Brewer. Hopefully he will be one for a long time.
  18. No. I think Murphy has been a bit of a magician to get the pitching staff to work out. He also does a good job of keeping guys engaged which is why I don't have as big of an issue with the platooning. During the Phillies series, the offense had their opportunities, but couldn't cash in. I think of Turang's last at bat on Tuesday with a runner at third and less than two outs. He was trying to elevate the ball, but couldn't. Credit to the Phillies staff. Hopefully they bounce back with authority against Los Tigres this weekend.
  19. Perhaps it was very close to push the panic button before his injury. The bullpen has been affected by the lack of quality starts from the starters. It would be great to get another proven MLB starter, but I know that would require some player capital. Not sure whom I would want to give up. I thought the mention of the emoji's was quite funny... ☠️☠️☠️
  20. It seems like the franchise's golden goose is whoever is going to be ponying up the cash. College Football is a great example. I'm not sure the Oakland A's would look at their fans as a golden goose. 😢
  21. I would probably think... "He's tired..." 😉
