  1. If his OBP is over .300 or more, that will be a huge lift. He is not a power hitter and should not try to be one. His comment during the press conference of him, "being the best version of me [him]" is perfect. Get on base, steal bases, score runs. Don't try to hit the ball 110 MPH off the bat each time.
  2. So-crates would not be impressed... 😁
  3. Clark was throwing it up from all over tonight. She also had some nice dimes, too. During the game, I asked my daughter, "Why do women feel the need to wear false eyelashes during a basketball game?" She had no idea -- neither did my wife.
  4. This, like so many things in baseball, is riding a fine line. Of course pulling a Nuke Laloosh and hitting the bull is a bit different at the Major League level. Even if it was a mistake, Ramirez needs to be better and having a few games to think about his life is a good idea. What would have happened if he came a little inside and hit grazed Hoskins? How about a slider that didn't break as much or did actually get away? If Hoskins gets hit in any way against the Mets, would it be an immediate trip to the showers? No, it shouldn't. Then again, Ramirez shouldn't be fighting it and should say to McNeil, "I got your back. Now, buy me a steak." 😉
  5. Some posts related to the new scoreboard
  6. 75 -- sorry for being pessimistic. I was actually thinking 72 originally. The starting pitching isn't close to what it was even last year. They would have 2-3 solid starters and that was the foundation of the team. There was a consistent closer whether it was Hader or Williams. It is up for grabs, but I don't know if the "new closer," whether by committee or otherwise, will be able to put up the same numbers. The offense has been doing well in spring training. Hopefully that will carry over, although losing Mitchell doesn't help.
  7. Oh Jim... we all know that there is no more "Student" required in the "Student / Athlete" equation.
  8. I know that we want to get Middleton to get more opportunities, but here is what I saw -- In the fourth, there were five straight possessions where they gave him the ball, and he pulled a Tyler Wahl -- try to back his man down, turn, and miss. Five...... straight...... possessions......
  9. I was waiting for another post that started, "But that's not all...!" 😉
  10. I wonder how much the "Fear of Gard" was put in the players. Did Chuckie not shoot as much earlier in the season because he didn't want to, or because he was told not to. When AJ Storr started contributing in a game, then made one or two poor decisions, he was benched. However, this worked earlier in the year up until the Nebraska game. Actually, that was a huge game for Storr -- especially in the first half. Crowl was exposed, teams picked up on that, and that was the script by which to beat the Badgers. Chuckie played very well in the B1G tournament because he either took charge or was allowed to score more. I don't think teams were expecting that.
  11. The Wisconsin Women's team lost in the NCAA Championship to Ohio State 1-0. Payback for last year, I guess. OSU was #1 and Wisconsin was #2 most of the year. I thought Wisconsin would win after beating OSU in the WCHA championship 6-3.
  12. They are making Virginia look good compared to them.
  13. The offense is a lazy offense. It works when Crowl can get on the block and do something. Unfortunately, Nebraska showed that when you double Crowl, he is going to turn the ball over -- 80% of the time. Tyler Wahl can't hit a bunny. This isn't anything new, either. When they are playing five out and Storr tries to dribble, nobody knows what to do because the offense isn't designed for that. Yes -- the referees are letting a lot of hand checking, etc. going on. On the dribble handoff, the JMU player had his hand OVER THE SHOULDER of the Wisconsin offensive player. No call... "Great Defense." They need to set some off the ball screens. Period. The refs aren't going to call the physical play. Heck, they screwed up the obvious call where the ball went off of the JMU player. Bottom line -- Wisconsin needs to play better. Period.
  14. I have watched a few at bats and although his hands are much more quiet before toe touch, he still has a propensity to flatten his bat too much. This is evident when he takes pitches. Basically his back elbow connects with his body dropping the top hand flattening the bat. I haven't done much more analysis, but I'm guessing that is why his whiff rate is close to 30% and his average is so low. Hopefully he figures it out. I agree -- he should start out at AAA and get the rest of his swing fixed.
  15. I see what you did there... 😂
  16. I do not see how Edey is going to be successful in today's NBA. The closest person I could think of would be Greg Odom, but at least he was more athletic. Edey cannot generate a dynamic shot. He will get called for illegal defense every time down.
  17. The refs have interjected themselves into the game. Even Raf and Hill are saying that.
  18. What a terrible call. Trash... Panda... Grant Hill says, "I haven't seen that before..." So you didn't see it happen earlier in the game or when reviewing the Wisconsin game against Northwestern.
  19. Ok, so every 50/50 ball will result in foul on Wisconsin. Zebras making it well known already.
  20. I seem to recall his name was "Bluto" originally. I guess it is Paramount's fault. Shivvers me timbers...
  21. I'm all for this, but would a reduction of the minimum wage requirement accompany this? I truly believe that part of our problem is that people don't know how to manage their money. High schools do not teach fiscal responsibility, budgeting, etc. I know this is a fraction of the issue at hand, but I am amazed at how people will buy a house, take on a huge debt that requires them to put 80% of their monthly earnings towards the mortgage, and then have little to no furniture.
  22. I finally watched the game. It was almost the opposite of what happened earlier in the game when Buie chop blocked Wahl and Wahl fell over him. Except this time, the Northwestern player had a small hold of Wahl's jersey and Wahl's pirouette might have been a bit embellished. I don't think it was intentional at all. As the game was going on, I was following on the sports app and was seeing Buie's performance in the first half. I was having visions of Stephen Curry and Davidson vs. Wisconsin in Detroit.
  23. I haven't seen the game, yet, but.... shhhh... I won't say who suggested this, but his / her initials are @Playing Catch. 🤔 Old Time Hockey
  24. This one is funny. It is like it is breaking a fourth wall within the series without breaking the fourth wall.
  25. Let me guess -- you have seen Tom Izzo's teams before? 😁 Izzo is a guy with whom I would enjoy having dinner. I would ask about coaching philosophy, of course, but also growing up in Iron Mountain. I wonder if Izzo would have the same opinion of NIL as Nick Saban.
