  1. Because it is an interstate. If that interstate stopped at 94 in Milwaukee, it wouldn’t be an interstate. That would be my first thought. Yeah, but I-43 doesn't cross state lines. That might be an instate highway... I think there are a bunch in Texas, too.
  2. Women's Field Hockey would be an add to balance out Title IX. Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State has a full slate of sports. I guess they make a lot more money. Minnesota can play indoors, sure, but that is a northern team that plays. The athletic department was in shambles before 1991 because the primary revenue source, football, was not good at all. I think, when I was in the band, the average was 40-50K if we were lucky. The last game I marched against MSU after Thanksgiving probably had 10K tops. The decision would be whether or not to spend the money on more non-revenue sports or on nicer concourses or training facilities for existing sports. I'm thinking they will go with the former, but there is much more revenue coming in and the Emperor is leaving... Goodman is now used by the softball team, so they would have to use or build a new facility. One never knows what will happen.
  3. So with Barry Alvarez retiring, will Bucky have a baseball program soon? I'll say 2022/2023. What do y'all think?
  4. I guess we use the door a lot. We went through the 5,000 cycles quickly. My parents have the two springs on the sides instead of one big one on the header. I think they had to replace it once or twice in 45 years. Go figure.
  5. Garage door spring broke again. Sigh... guess lubing up the spring, etc. didn't help. It has been five years since we replaced it.
  6. One summer I worked at Kohler and helped build Blackwolf Run. Got to meet Pete Dye. Mr. Kohler is a great guy -- especially to his workers. When there was an argument between Mr. Dye and Mr. Kohler about some trees at the hole known as Cathedral Spires, Mr. Kohler won. It was hard work. One cool thing is that as workers at the course, we got to golf Blackwolf as often as we wanted -- for FREE!!! Of course, there were only 27 holes back then (River, Valley, and Meadows). We were building the other 9 on the southeast side of the course. I think I only got 5 rounds in that summer because we were so busy.
  7. If that is true, then the people with Roku TVs will not be happy... At least you can still plug something into an HDMI port.
  8. So what does he want? Is his frustration with the GM, the coach, or what? How many times was he in NFCCGs and the defense is the group that dropped the ball? Sure... drafting a WR in the first round would do what? I will say that last year's draft was total crap for the Packers. If Rodgers didn't fall where he did in the draft, the Packers would not have drafted him when Favre was still in town. Not sure what Rodgers is looking for.
  9. So, when do "youth sports" stop becoming "youth sports?" Is it middle school? High School? After High School?
  10. Hey -- if you send me your username / password, I'll test it for you...
  11. I only got B's and C's in high school but got only A's and B's in college mostly just A's. I guess I did all of my partying in high school or just wasn't all that interested in the subjects during high school. [sarcasm]Are you saying high school academics do not really matter? [/sarcasm]
  12. If you get it correct, would you be a poll dancer?
  13. What? No data visualization using R? What a bunch of hacks... Very, very tempting. 10 years ago, I would have applied for sure.
  14. I 100% agree with you. Will the academy coach encourage the child who not only excels at that coach's sport (baseball for example) if he also is invited to a football camp for example? If it does not interfere with the academy coach's schedule, should it really matter? When I was coaching girls softball (16U), we had schedule a tournament for ASA Class B state. We had some injuries that were causing us some issues, but we were going to be ok. The week before, one of the healthy girls comes up to me and says she can't make it because she has to go to mandatory cheer camp. I knew she was in cheer, but a "mandatory cheer camp..." during the state tournament? Only letting me know one week before... and we had injuries!!! Apples and oranges, I know.
  15. Isn't that part of the problem? Too many parents think their kids will be playing sports in college. Getting scholarships, etc. Very few do, which is part of the issue. Too many parents have unrealistic expectations about their kid's ability and do not understand the odds of actually playing sports in college. (other than intramurals of course.) There are many ways somebody can play sports in college possibly at a D3 or JUCO level. The catch is that at the lower levels, you do not get a scholarship. My oldest daughter got assistance playing for a D3 school, but not because the coach "found money," but because she scored a 32 on her ACT. There are many factors on whether or not a kid will receive aid. If you make too much money as a parent, that money won't necessarily show up for you. I agree with the assessment, though, and that is how we posed it to our kids. If you earn a college scholarship, it will be a job. Would you rather "work at a job" doing something that you enjoy doing, or would you like like to work at McDonald's or some job like that? If there is a good work ethic as a foundation, it shouldn't be as difficult to transition if they do not earn a scholarship.
  16. I think it depends on the context or the goal of the organized sports. In our community, there would be a tee ball league for young Kindergarten kids, and then sort of a coach pitch for 1st and 2nd graders (both boys and girls). There were limits as far as the number of runs, number of outs, etc. The parents would get together and have a great time and afterwards, all of the kids would get together from both teams, grab their snacks and juice boxes, and head over to the playground to hang out. It was also a place for middle schoolers and high schoolers to learn how to be umpires. It was more like a "safe or out" type of thing as opposed to balls and strikes. That said, there were times where parents and coaches would make it into more than that. I have to be transparent -- I have been on both sides of the fence, unfortunately, but not nearly as stupid crazy as some parents or coaches. I think it depends on the sport (soccer is more intense, for example). My advice for anybody running a league, coaching a league, or participating in a league with young kids is... make it fun. Your goal should be to make sure the kids come out loving the game and learn how to support your teammates. That doesn't mean that a kid shouldn't try to do their best because I believe they should. However, that really doesn't matter at that age. At some point, not everybody will get a trophy, but at that age, the foundation that is set will benefit them more in the long run than whether you win or lose.
  17. I have three daughters (24, 22, 19) and a son (17). All three excelled in softball / baseball and all excelled in soccer. My wife and I were very good at sports in our high schools and in our free time we would always do something sports or outdoor related. So our family DNA was built around being active and competitive. My oldest daughter was a pitcher and dominating people in the local muni league. At that point, we were directed to her playing in a select program. My other two daughters were in the same boat. All three excelled and all three got numerous letters to play college softball. My oldest pitched for one year at a D3 school, but opted out of it. Soccer ended up being cast out due to a lack of enjoyment. My son, still in high school, loves football but doesn't play all that much (is the field goal kicker, though). He is also a very good baseball player. I bring this up because I think my wife and I were in the "they just need an opportunity and they will get a college scholarship" mode. As they reached high school, social aspects became very important and various injuries prevented each of them from moving on. Fortunately, or man focus over sports was academics. This has been a blessing. My advice would be repeating what many people have already said: Let kids be kids. If they love the game but are bored with the players they are playing with because they are afraid to throw the ball too hard, etc., look for something else. Yes, it is a lot of money at times, but the memories built as a family going to these events (yes, it was tough with four children) will be brought up when they enter adulthood. It can also be a time for parents to meet other parents and get out of their bubble. Some coaches (especially in academy sports) will poo-poo academics. My brother wrestled at a top 20, D1 school on scholarship and let it go because they wanted him to focus on wrestling, not on school. Now, he is a director at a hospital. If your child gets hurt, they can "fall back" on academics. Sports should be a teaching tool about life. Teamwork, hard work, accepting victory and failure are all things that are a byproduct. There will come times where they will want to walk away. I would like to say let them walk or force them to play. Use it as a teachable moment. Some of my daughters have told me, "If I only would have done X in softball..." meaning they regret not doing more. However, if my wife and I would have pushed them, it would have driven a wedge between us -- not worth it in my opinion. I have many more stories, but I'll stop now. Love your kids for who they are even if they only hit .010
  18. I wonder if there might have been a clubhouse issue, too.
  19. One thing that annoys me with almost all of the DC films is the color filter they use on almost ALL of their shots. I understand that so much of it is shot with a green / blue screen background, but it simply doesn't look good to me. I like how they also gave Flash some value. In the first movie, he was simply comic relief and didn't add too much. They went deeper with each character that didn't have a major motion picture up to that point. I think they had to put in a lot of extra stuff in the epiloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong... Marvel had around 15movies to set things up where they could really go forth with the Infinity Saga. DC needed to do something. They needed continuity and they finally have a foundation to stand on.
  20. We also tend to forget that King was often abused by opposing defenses. He was obviously targeted by the TB offense on multiple occasions and they burnt him. https://www.acmepackingcompany.com/by-the-numbers/2020/12/16/22174122/kevin-kings-struggles-have-the-packers-singing-the-boundary-corner-blues
  21. Well done... I'm writing that one down...
  22. Unfortunately they use your ip address...so those games would be blacked out. I've had something similar happen to me in reverse. I was trying to watch the Coyotes in AZ on NHL.TV...and I couldn't. The place I was staying did not carry the channel they were on. Blackout rules are outdated and need to be updated to current times. It's kind of like having the a city speed limit of 12mph for horseless carriages so the horses don't get spooked (actual law in Connecticut from 1901) in today's society. https://nordvpn.com/??? You can connect to different servers around the world allowing you to appear as if you are in a certain region... I think...
  23. Channel 4 in Milwaukee ALWAYS has prerecorded sports stories at 10:00. Nothing about the night's activities like the Bucks, etc. Perhaps that is only when Lance Allen is on there. Let's go!!!! Perhaps a switch to another station is in order.
  24. While I would like to see them get more championships in FB and BB, I remind myself of Don Morton and Steve Yoder. Then, I'm happy as a clam. My years at Madison in the late 80's were terrible... that is except for HOCKEY!!!!!!! On, Wisconsin!!!!
