  1. I'm still moderately surprised that Woodman's is a Brewers Radio Network sponsor this season. It doesn't seem like them to actually invest in advertising. I'm guessing the BRN thing is a more significant expenditure than those classy "ay caramba, what a deal on toilet paper" TV spots.
  2. Well, the next time the Brewers get hosed in a critical point of a game, we'll have to remember this game ending play. Sure looked like a butt tag to me, but that was with the benefits of hindsight and the one camera angle. Watching Sedar put up the stop sign and then look resigned was hilarious, though easier to take since the call went the Brewers' way.
  3. crewcrazy suggested last night that Kottaras is Greek for "walkoff." It could also be for "clutch."
  4. That is the kind of "interesting" that makes me turn on relievers. Come on, Brewers, we haven't heard Refused at a ballpark yet this year.
  5. It's usually on Friday evenings. Yes, I am that lame. We won't see it this week because we'll be at Miller Park.
  6. Aw. I'm getting in the mood for a $100,000 Pyramid marathon.
  7. I think the Jackie Robinson jerseys are auctioned off for at least some teams, or have been in the past. I wouldn't mind seeing names on the jerseys, for the practical value of being able to identify people - especially since Jackie Robinson Day is observed early in the season and even though I feel pretty confident in my ability to identify Brewers by sight, it's not that way for whoever they play on April 15.
  8. I heard Joe Block's replay in the car on the way home and it was all right. Gunshow! GK9! Summer of George! I'll post the photo later (like Wednesday night) of the latest Gameday program graphic fail: WHIP WALKS PLUS STRIKEOUTS PER INNING PITCHED Wish I were making that up. Seriously, Brewers, I would copy edit these programs for free.
  9. Actually, it was a Wednesday night. I had to go to a required German-language lecture for a class. I brought my Walkman but to my dismay the prof sat next to me. So I found out about the no-no from a message scrawled by my roommate on the dry-erase board that graced our dorm room door. I didn't have a TV at the time, either, so it was literally years before I ever saw highlights from that game.
  10. The Sausage Race is not displaced by this half marathon. This year's Sausage 5K Run/Walk is July 28.
  11. SO tired of the tomahawk chant/chop. Even if there were no such thing as political correctness, it just sounds bad.
  12. Today (April 15, 2012) marks 25 years since the Brewers' first (and only, to date) no-hitter, thrown by Juan Nieves vs. the Orioles at Baltimore. http://www.avonoldfarms.com/uploaded/photos/athletics/hallofame/photos/nieves-83.jpg http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/baseballs_best/mlb_bb_gamepage.jsp?story_page=bb_87reg_041587_milbal
  13. Sweet mother of secret sauce. I dearly wish I were making this up: http://l.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/xwIh9dn4X83DdM3yqQIQpA--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7cT04NTt3PTMxMA--/http://media.zenfs.com/en/blogs/sptusmlbexperts/cardinalsringsquirrell041412.jpg The rally squirrel was represented on the 2011 Cardinals' World Series rings. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/cardinals-put-rally-squirrel-world-series-ring-160249382.html For the record, I would not have incorporated beast mode into a Brewers WS ring.
  14. I think an observance of Robinson's debut is worthy, but as a spectator, trying to discern between all the 42s gets old.
  15. The Weather Channel TOR:CON rating for Wisconsin (west/central) today is 6/10, vs. 9/10 in the hot spots Saturday. So it might be less here, hawing said hopefully.
  16. First of all, it makes me happy to see out-of-region fans get a chance to provide "I was there" commentary in an IGT. Yay for you, dlk9s. This has been rehashed elsewhere over time, but Casual Fan tends to be out in force at Miller Park's opening day as well. As a diehard, I don't expect to ever fully understand their perspective, but it just seems goofy (to me) to put so much effort into one day and then be meh about the rest of the season (until the postseason, when applicable). Of course, not everyone rolls that way, but there are some who definitely fit that extreme stereotype. Spectators being up and down from their seats frequently, in front of me, is a normal occurrence, but that is probably because we sit in the family sections - though it's not always parents/young kids who can't stay still or need a steady stream of concessions. How many of last night's crowd stayed to the end? I don't know what the norm is for Turner Field.
  17. At least they didn't just roll over and give up at 3-8. /sigh
  18. There are enough GIFs on the internets for everyone to take a turn.
  19. Well, that Gonzalez/Kottaras order wasn't a 100% failure. Gunshow!
  20. I had a small, caught-early case of shingles once. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
  21. A bit of a delayed response: I did get over to the lecture on Tuesday and enjoyed it, as did the rest of the nearly-full house. I've long described myself as ambivalent on Bud; I know there wouldn't be baseball in Milwaukee without him, and I'm grateful for that, but some of his moves and responses just seem boneheaded. My take on him still falls somewhere in between - but wow, there is no questioning his devotion to the game of baseball. None. Wisconsin Eye recorded the talk. Their website suggests it will be aired (in Wisconsin - Charter channel 995, TWC channel 363) Thursday Friday 4/13 from 3:15-5:00 PM. It also looks like this page has a link to an online version: http://www.wiseye.org/Programming/VideoArchive/EventDetail.aspx?evhdid=5967 It's worth a look or a listen (that page has both an audio and a video link) if you have about an hour and 45 minutes to spare -- or about 35 minutes if you're not interested in the Q and A section. But you should stay for the Q/A if you can. Edited my date error for the Wisconsin Eye airing.
  22. Shake harder, boy! http://gifsoup.com/webroot/animatedgifs/1057743_o.gif
  23. I was looking the other day myself and see no sign of any podcasts - to my mild dismay.
