  1. We arrived at about 12:30 and (including a trip to the regular price store upstairs) left a little before 2:00. There were two customers ahead of us at the sale checkout, but otherwise we encountered no lines at all. The BP jerseys that were $25 looked like many of the same ones that hung in the discount section of the terrace level store throughout the 2009 season (like the Alec Zumwalt jersey I actually dreamt of once during the season - it still came down to my knees so I continued to pass it up). This year the game-worn jerseys included a bunch from 2008, many at prices that would suggest perceived extra value because they were worn during the "wild card" year. Other posters have described the prices accurately. I thought of bensheeps when I saw the Hall gamer, then gasped aloud when I saw the $800 price tag. Then I saw the Suppan jersey also going for $800 and thought, which one should be more embarrassed by their being priced the same? I assume the Brewers will be putting any Hall and Suppan merchandise proceeds into their respective contracts. I absolutely do not get the $1500 price on the Counsell jersey. Are they trying to make sure a local fan bent on voodoo can't afford it? I won't lie - I gave a long look at the Branyan jerseys (one navy, one gray, and two retro) but $350 modern/$300 retro for something that I hope I never get large enough to have fit me...I couldn't do it. I had decided before the sale, though, that if they had a navy jersey at a decent price with a non-embarrassing name, I might spring for it. So when I saw the $100 Mota jersey, I laughed; when I saw the Tavarez jersey, I remembered the poster who said in last year's sale thread that he wanted to buy one (I've PMd him already); but when I saw the '08 Iribarren (#26) for $150, I did buy it. If the Hurricane tanks or is traded, all I need is a P, another A, a seam ripper and needle and thread and I can turn it into a Parra jersey. Outside the game-worn merchandise, I just wasn't impressed. There was a predictable amount of Hardy gear (including some "Hot for Hardy" shirts for which I was not hot) and some Hall. There were shirts I remember from the terrace store discount racks. There seemed to be an awful lot of jerseys/tops whose 'sale' price was $50, which I'm sure represented a discount but didn't seem like a deal. The 2009 locker nameplates seemed quite highly priced ($75 for Corey Patterson and John Axford, which should make Axford mad; hundreds more for anyone of note). The older nameplates were more amusing. JD Closser from 2005, Tony Migliaccio from some prior year but $10 for that didn't offend me, and your choice of Julio Santana or Julio Santanna. (Last year I scored the 2008 Branyan nameplate for $60, which is why Vgmaster did not find one this year.) And if anyone remembers those black lace caps from the 2008 sale...they were back, and there seemed to be more of them! $5 for those seems a little insulting. There was no Bernie merchandise or sausage merchandise at the sale. The Brewers did offer a regular-store discount to fans who spent $100 or more at the sale, so we were able to get a modest discount on some regular price items that we'd been eyeing for Christmas gifts. Overall, it felt to me like the Brewers either sold enough merch this year so they didn't have as wide a selection left over, or they've already been reducing the breadth of their merchandise selection and so didn't have a wide variety left over. I don't feel like the trip was a waste - I enjoy having a reason to visit the ballpark - but I'd give the selection a 4 out of 10.
  2. Rookie of my life? That doesn't necessarily sound like a compliment. We're hoping to get to the park around midday Friday, assuming the interstate is in good winter driving condition. If you see a woman commenting knowledgeably to an S.O. looking type about game worn jerseys of has-beens of the last few seasons, it just might be me (or ewizabeff, or maybe even tristarscoop). Say hi. It seems like someone every year senses the Brewerfan-ness in me, despite my leaving the BF.net parka at home. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  3. It's fine to get into it. This guy last night almost hit me, is all.
  4. Students stormed the court in March 2008 when the Badgers also were Big Ten champions - although the clincher game was a blowout of Penn State (I like that phrase: "blowout of Penn State") rather than a nailbiter like the 2003 game with Illinois. What I find astounding is that I've had the good fortune to attend each of those games. We buy the weeknight games from a season ticket holder whose son lives near Milwaukee and only wants to go to weekend games. (The season ticket holder himself is retired and living in California.) I always thought that overhead photo of Kirk Penney (assuming that's the one you mean, sd) was just slightly creepy looking...kind of like he was enjoying it too much (even though I very much doubt that's the case).
  5. I'll check that later, but I believe the snippet I'm thinking of is played only once per game, right before it starts. It's accompanied by a montage of highlights on the videoboard.Edit: I don't think Peaceblaster is the answer. Thanks, though.
  6. Yeah, in a way, I'm surprised that this has happened so seldom on my watch. The check-in point for both my people and the shelvers is literally five feet away from my desk. This person I did not see at all between the last week of October and the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Sure, it's possible that every one of her arrivals and departures in that 3-4 week period happened at times when I was away from my desk, and she also forgot to enter times in Kronos, and she forgot to record her shelving totals for the whole month of November. I doubt it. I sort of envy that employer of Brewbadger's friend who apparently has money to spare if s/he can afford to pay people for twice as many hours as they actually work. When I consider that permanent staff at my workplace are not out of the woods on layoffs yet, the thought of paying this kid $7.75 an hour for nothing infuriates me.
  7. Side question, for Badger basketball fans who have been to games this fall and are more knowledgeable about modern music than I am: What is the song they play about 30 seconds of right after the starting lineups are announced, and before the band launches into Hot Time? The refrain-y part at the end of the clip sounds like it has "let's go" repeated several times, but I've never been good at discerning lyrics, especially in a noisy arena.
  8. Oh, yeah, I'm composing a written reiteration of what was said this morning, so she can't claim she misunderstood. I'm alllll about documentation.
  9. http://badgerherald.com/resources/scripts/t/t.php/q=85;650x1000;/news/2009/12/03/BBALL_JS.jpg From today's Badger Herald. Judging from some of the reactions I saw from Athletic Department staff just after the game ended, this win was a big deal for the department. Here's hoping Grambling State on Saturday isn't too much of a letdown in comparison.
  10. I'd forgotten that phrase. Good call! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I agree that generally, an early season nonconference win shouldn't prompt a court-storm. It was Duke, though.
  11. Wow, so many responses. Thanks! The short answer: I got here a little late this morning (that Duke game ended late for a "school night") and found the employee here. My colleague has already asked her to check in with him or me at the start and end of every shift, and notified her that shifts not entered into Kronos on the day of work won't be counted by us unless we have seen her arrive and leave. That should put an end to the leaving-timecard-blank and then trying to recall two weeks of shifts business. If it doesn't, either she won't be paid or we will have cause to terminate. So I guess we're going with the valpo/JimH5 suggestions. We had what I consider solid evidence that her hours for the last pay period were inaccurate, since she listed coming in on Thanksgiving Day, as well as a day when she'd called in sick. I think my colleague is too willing to give second/third/multiple chances, but he seems to have (finally) provided a benchmark for future behavior for this person. Again, thanks for the help. Who ever thought a sports message board would have such versatility?
  12. So, at the library my colleague and I employ a bunch of college students. I'm almost certain that one of my colleague's students is faking at least some of her hours (saying she was here for a given shift when there is no evidence that she was) but I don't know how to prove it. The timekeeping system available to us is not a timeclock, so employees can enter hours online at any time (from any internet connection) during a two-week pay period. The work that my colleague's students do is relatively independent and relatively flexible (shelving books), so while it is possible she is sneaking in and out without either of us seeing her, I think it is highly unlikely. Any ideas for how to catch her in the non-act, so to speak? My spidey sense that she's scamming us is tingling, but "hawing's spidey sense" probably isn't enough to hold up in an employer-employee dispute. Thanks in advance.
  13. During the second half, I thought the fan on my right was going to klunk me in the head with his wild gesturing (asking for a travel call, and the like). There was much indignation around us (except for that blankety blank kid behind me, grrr).
  14. I don't usually use textspeak, but OMG. Just wow. I have a lot of negative thoughts to take back about Trevon Hughes. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/embarassed.gif I was moderately shocked at the number of Duke fans in the Kohl Center. Maybe it was the shade of blue, but it felt almost Cubs like. Or maybe it was the colossally irritating rugrat kid who sat behind me and not only felt the need to literally howl during every Badger free throw attempt, but also shouted WHOOOSH! and I LOVE YOU (name of Dukie) after every bucket they made. Seriously. He was like 10 years old. I'd like to have a chat with the sellout fans in row D of section 120, the next time they bother to attend a game.
  15. So, what brucrustu is saying is that I can finally afford that stylin' "Mrs. Hardy" and "J.J. Hottie" gear. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. I work at the U.S. history library on campus (as some of you know), and so have employed my share of history/poli sci majors over the years. Several moved on to law school, others to grad school (various programs - not necessarily continuing with history or poli sci), and yet others work in government at various levels. Several have had internships at the Capitol, which does seem to open additional doors. I didn't major in either myself, so I don't have first-hand experience; but I can tell you that I do virtually nothing with my undergraduate major (linguistics), and I agree with homer in that your college career is unlikely to be messed up if you don't decide this year.
  17. Yeah, I know. I was thinking that if the only Clunger shirts available are at regular price, would SF still want one?
  18. It makes me wonder how dismal the Brewers' economic projections are.
  19. If BA's fate is to move to TBS, let's just hope he and Chip don't trade jobs.
  20. Per the State Journal, no Erin Andrews at the Kohl Center tonight. Sorry, fellas.
  21. Rev SF, if you PM me with a price ceiling, I'll take a look. To give you a benchmark, I believe the regular price for player tees is $30 for adults; for kids, I'm not sure.
  22. There are bad days at work, and then there are bad days at work. Today a visitor to my workplace committed suicide in our building. The person who died had long-term and significant mental health issues, and while I feel bad for him (and hope he's finally at peace), I honestly feel worse for the colleagues who saw and heard the incident. I'd have been among them had I left for lunch even a minute later. Sorry. Feel free to carry on with more mundane things that are bugging you. Actually, I'd like to have something more mundane to think about.
  23. I'll bump this thread to add a link to the press release, which was issued today. In the immortal words of Mass Haas, link while active, text follows: As a side note (unrelated to the clubhouse sale)...speaking as an out of towner, I guess I'm glad I noticed that the team store is no longer open on Sundays during the off season. Now, if we can just avoid catching a bug between now and Friday../leaves keyboard to go knock on wood/
  24. I could see the S.O. being interested in a Pilots jersey, so please do report back on your experience with ecseller.
  25. For a start, I admire the optimism in PrinceFielderx1's lead post. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif How to answer your question (how the Brewers determine where fans will sit in the playoffs)...I'm not sure. I can describe our experience in 2008. We had two 20-packs: one a fan's choice in the terrace box, and one a Sunday Plus in the loge infield. The Brewers offered us two pairs of tickets in August, neither in our regular seats but in a different section on the same level (i.e. one pair in another terrace box and one pair farther from home in the loge). We sat in the loge seats and sold the TB seats to some posters here, but both locations were nice. Here's a thread from 2008 where some season ticket holding customers reported their postseason locations vs. regular season locations. Seniority seemed to make a difference - many first-time 20 pack customers were moved to terrace reserved. What was available to 9-pack customers depended on what was unclaimed by full season and 20-pack customers. During the week between the wild card clinch and the NLDS, we also got emails from the Brewers offering us the opportunity to buy additional tickets. My S.O. used the offer to buy tickets for his brother's family. I think those were in the loge. I don't remember if the number of tickets we could order through that offer were limited. I remember being surprised that tickets were remaining at all. Maybe this is how diener34 got his loge bleachers seats for the NLDS? For what it's worth, the 2009 season seat holder handbook said that in case of a 2009 postseason appearance, 20-pack customers should expect to be placed in the terrace. Other relevant threads from fall 2008: Do 9 pack holders get playoff tickets? Last minute tickets (related to the tickets that were released during the week of September 29) Hope that helps. I imagine the Brewers' plan varies from year to year, because the size of the season ticket customer base varies as well.
