  1. The more they drag it out, the more at least some casual fans think about MLB. I'm not saying I'm a fan of it, either.
  2. That's a hazard with the clinics: seeing other kids get upset would definitely have made me more apprehensive when I was a kid. The seasonal flu shot clinic we attended in September had a lot of kids at it, many of whom were unhappy. The unhappiness spread quickly.
  3. *like* Oops, that's the other website. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Edit: It's obvious that in the photo above, young Mitchell is contemplating the 2010 M's without Russell Branyan. I share her distress.
  4. I don't know how I got lucky enough to only hear this for the first time today, but this made me tempted to swear off Christmas/winter holiday music.? Or at least WOLX. Also, when I heard it in the car tonight, I thought of this thread.
  5. Ohh, never thought of the Curve. I know Mickie's is supposed to be legendary, but I was turned off by the doughy center of my platter sized pancakes. A scrambler sounds more promising.
  6. Or when loved ones ask you for Christmas gift ideas, ask for grocery gift cards.
  7. Correct, they sign with many pens so there are more mementos to hand out. My library has one from when Gov. Thompson signed legislation related to vital records access.
  8. Some Metro routes will get you to the west side Original Pancake House, so you have an option even if you're carless. I'd call it worth the effort. Otherwise...close to your neighborhood? I don't know. Walk to Mickie's? At least you can take the bike/ped path there, though if you went Saturday morning, you'd do battle with football traffic. Now I'm hungry for OPH.
  9. With apologies for nit-picking, only five guys on the Badgers' current roster are Wisconsinites, and of those only Nankivil and Jarmusz can expect to see more than mop-up time.
  10. Well, if the Brewers sign Harden, I shall hope to see JimH5 change his avatar, even just for a day, to the Jim Anchower photo. It's been a long time since I rapped at ya...
  11. Every time the UW shows Badger basketball player Rob Wilson's face on the Kohl Center videoboard, I think of Smoove B from The Onion. I don't know why. http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/wis/sports/m-baskbl/auto_headshot/2861756.jpeg http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:r0_A0AearTjEPM:http://www.theonion.com/content/files/images/character6.article.jpg
  12. As long as I don't get the virus itself, I expect to get vaccinated (preferably the shot, not the mist) whenever it's available, especially now that the S.O. is in a higher-risk-for-complications category (he's diabetic). We heeded our clinic's multiple and multi-media reminders to get seasonal flu shots in September, and so at least avoided the delay that many others have faced getting that one.
  13. Rather than reinvent the wheel, I will link to the threads for the 2007 sale and the 2008 sale. Every year is different (as you might expect for what is essentially a rummage sale). 2006 had excellent deals on game-used stuff, for example, but after the relatively successful 2007 and 2008 seasons the Brewers must have figured they could get more $$$ for those items. So in December 2008 they were asking $300 for game used jerseys from also-rans of 2007 (Chris Spurling types, no specific offense meant to Chris). If the patterns of past years hold, I'd expect to see some game-used items, merchandise that didn't sell well, dated merchandise (like 2009 spring training shirts) and overstocks. Last year there were a ton of playoff shirts, programs, pennants, etc. I'd expect some discounted (sob) Hardy merchandise, as well as the same for any other players they part ways with over the next four weeks. Since the Brewers had a sale section in the terrace level store throughout the 2009 season, I wonder how that will affect the amount of merchandise available at the December sale. Only one way to find out, I guess.
  14. I can accept taking advantage of uncommonly nice November weather to put up Christmas lights. I don't think they should be turned on (except for testing) until after Thanksgiving.
  15. I will say this: the second go-round for Stormy didn't bother me nearly as much as when the Brewers brought back Jaime Navarro. Good luck to David going forward.
  16. Those of you who geek out over Brewers walkup music and who liked Heir to the Throne, Prote-J's hip hop song written for Prince, might be happy to know it's now available on iTunes.
  17. That could have been brewerjamie15. Was it a mid-90s era jersey?
  18. Glover appealed his athletic department suspension and it was denied this week: State Journal/Cap Times link He apparently would still like to prove to the UW-Madison community that the doofus who stole stuff from dorm rooms his first weekend in college is not the real Jeremy Glover. I guess that's relatively stand-up, though it would have been even more stand-up to not make such a doofus choice to begin with. In separate, older-school UW basketball news, 1980s player Darin Schubring is in critical condition after being punched in a bar on Halloween night, then hitting his head badly as he fell from the blow. I know it's relatively few of us here at Brewerfan who'd remember him, but he was a starter while I was an undergrad. Geez.
  19. Nope, it began today. Why on a Thursday, I wouldn't know. My S.O. gets the WOLX emails and they sent advance word out yesterday. This gave me small comfort: one of my coworkers says he knows one of the WOLX DJs (I didn't ask which one). He asks the DJ every year if they're ever going to start playing more than 12 songs. The DJ replies by putting his finger to his head as if the finger is a gun. So at least some of the staff are as disappointed in their wafer-thin playlist as I am. I don't know if he is also disappointed in the ultra early start date. I have been fortifying my iPod with Christmas music I really like, so I don't think I'll need WOLX, or WMYX or whatever other stations purport to bring us holiday spirit.
  20. In case you need something to look forward to before April, or the On Deck event in January, or even baseball's winter meetings...the annual clubhouse sale is scheduled to be Friday and Saturday, December 4-5. I know I'm looking to take the day off on 12/4. Last year's sale lasted Friday-Sunday, if I recall correctly. The email I received from our ticket rep doesn't indicate that Sunday is included this time. I imagine a press release will occur closer to December, though.
  21. A long national nightmare is finally over. Cha-ching. I'm sure Joe Buck slept well. The Wisconsin State Journal made me feel an iota better with its sports page headline in today's print version: MONEY TRAIN.
  22. It was odd tonight, sitting at a basketball game at the Kohl Center and seeing Philadelphia-NY Yankees updates on the out of town scoreboard.
  23. Rather than add to the long college hoops threads from prior seasons, I thought I'd start anew. It's on my mind because we have tickets to watch tonight's epic clash between Wisconsin and Bemidji State. We attended the red and white scrimmage the weekend before Halloween and I almost immediately decided that Mike Bruesewitz is my favorite new Badger. (Of course, with those two frosh gone after the first weekend of the school year, there are only two true freshmen now.) Mike Bruesewitz is just begging for a Bruiser nickname. Also, redshirt frosh Jared Berggren kind of looks like Brian Butch on the court (down to the same starting-to-recede hairline), only Jared appears to be able to jump. Anyway, let the hoops begin, I guess.
  24. Either should be accompanied by subtle smack-talk on the menu.
  25. We got home Tuesday to find new signs on our block limiting daytime parking. This is awesome because the kids at the nearby high school won't be able to park up the entire block every school day, which interferes with our trash, recycling and yard waste pickup during the school year.
