  1. I saw those towels and exclaimed aloud...though I oughtn't quote myself on this forum. I only hope and pray the home team will be able to field, this time.
  2. If I didn't like my blue kool-aid avatar so much, I'd consider making that Holliday clip my avatar...sort of a bookend to tomwopat's capture of the Brant Brown Experience.
  3. You guys beat me to it...the slightest flurry on the near west side. This summer, a family from California moved in across the street from us. Their kids are decked out in full winter regalia, including boots, walking around and looking at the sky. I want to tell them, just you wait. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif
  4. It's hard not to wonder how much Steinbrenner paid that ump to make that call. That's appalling, and it made a difference in this game, if not the series.
  5. Yeah, some such thing, but he might define "discount" differently than the Brewers do. Since most players' salaries increase each year, he might mean he's willing to play for the same $, which is not technically a discount.
  6. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif A Facebook friend who is a STL fan had as his status last night, "Did Mr. Holliday just buy his ticket out of the Lou?" So it's on one fan's mind.
  7. I've wondered about this too. Though I think the Time Warner sponsored contest is the Triple Play Trivia - the one that enrages me so when people miss what to me is a simple guess. TWC doesn't even serve Dane County, so if they picked me, what would I do with the prize? (besides apparently transfer it to brucrustu, who earlier this year assured me he was ready to help me out in just such a case; but if I have to sign for it, isn't it still my taxable income?) I would be a bad Triple Play Trivia contestant, because I usually have figured out the answer after the first clue and would be trying to talk over Robb Edwards by saying, "Trevor Hoffman. It's HOFFMAN! I don't need any more clues!" I think I'm content with self-righteously knowing the answers and delivering a merciless "sieve" chant to contestants who guess wrong.
  8. Not done yet... So, maybe the reason why so many STL fans wear red instead of white or gray is to help the fielders find the ball? Thus, wearing something like a home-white Pujols jersey to a game is classless? As for Cole Hamels, I'm willing to cut a degree of slack since his wife was having their first child. But the "defending world champions" thing sounds whiny. And if Cole gave it some thought, he might realize that had the Phillies played in prime-time, he would have missed even more of his wife's labor.
  9. Oh no, did they announce their start date? I like Christmas music, but not their playlist and not starting in October.
  10. Oh, indeed! That quote from Wainwright is kind of appalling, in a sports sense at least. Last Saturday's MIL-STL game included a commemorative Matt Holliday baseball giveaway. I wonder how fans feel about that right now. Also, the Dodgers' MLB site includes links to the TV and radio calls of the Holliday error. Vin Scully's is amusing: "...hit him right in the groin, hopefully he's wearing a cup." Schadenfreude is probably not best for the karma, but I can't get enough of this. Matt Holliday giveth, and Matt Holliday taketh away.
  11. That was awesome. And longtime bf.net readers know I have little love for Ronnie freakin' Belliard. (I have always been a Mark Loretta fan, though.) Edit: Plus the rally was sparked by a Matt Holliday error. Hah. HAH!
  12. And that was his 3000th post - joepepsi can't lose! Seriously, a custom made SCHLUBCLOSER player tee would be hilarious.
  13. What bugs me is the woolly bear caterpillar Brendan Ryan has trained to hold perfectly still on his upper lip. Also, Colby Rasmus is kind of ugly, and not endearingly ugly like Corey Hart.
  14. Sentry shoppers aren't stupid. I'm sure they've bought up all of the Silver Spring quality mustards by now. Beer and Brat was probably first to sell out.
  15. Well, I'm glad you're going with the loge deal. And it's nice to hear that there's an alternative perk to the Metavante passes. Those just aren't everyone's style. We're renewing our loge 20 pack for 2010 and contemplating changing our fan's choice pack in terrace box to Opening Day Plus, so we can get the same seats every game. However, the seat availability seems surprisingly limited in our section of choice (which is odd, since it's the family section). That's to be continued, I guess.
  16. Apologies for the tangent, but Joe Schlubcloser is the best faux name I've seen for a Brewers pitcher since last spring, when the poster Darnell Junior used "Yo-gag-me Guy-sucko." Tip of the cap. (Edit: here's the previous post)
  17. I assume the terrace ticket treat was dirt cheap, but $19 for full season loge (remember, cup holders) isn't bad by any means. Didn't you move frequently to the loge for 2009 games anyway?
  18. I'm going to have to go with "nuts with nukes" or a bad pandemic.
  19. Dennis Punzel of Madison's Capital Times/Wisconsin State Journal amalgam turned in this report on the press conference. My favorite quote is at the end, regarding what the Brewers could do with Fielder:
  20. Winter kills a lot of bugs. That's good for a little bit in my book. I'll admit, I saw this thread title and thought to myself, "ah, geez, who's jumping the gun?" - then I saw it was The Weatherman and said to myself, "dang, must be for real."
  21. Well, to be fair to both casual and diehard fans, there's "willing" and there's "able." This time last year, a chunk of the fanbase had already put down postseason deposits (which made it easier to pay a relatively small amount more in October-November to re-up for 2009), the excitement level was off the charts due to the NLDS appearance, and the economy hadn't yet crashed. None of those factors is working in the Brewers' favor right now. If the ticket sales staff are savvy (and I imagine they are), they'll ask customers who don't renew or scale back why they're doing so. It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall in those offices, to get an idea of how many lost interest due to the 2009 performance and how many literally can't afford to spend as much as they did in 2008.
  22. As a 20 game customer (times two), we're gunning for Chris Bosio. He's still eligible to apply for jobs within the organization!
  23. Madison's 100.5 FM is carrying today's/tonight's games. I didn't think to try 100.5 last night and used Gameday Audio to listen to the Twins Radio Network feed. I don't know if that helps you, though, casey.
  24. What you need is a friendly fellow fan with a 20 pack (or more) to split. It should be relatively easy to exchange for mid-week games.
  25. Oh, you'll like a conversation we had here at home during the just-completed game: One of the TBS guys (paraphrased): well, you get this dome full of fans, it gets warm in here and the ball just soars. hawing: Yeah, wait until next year. S.O.: /snickers/
