  1. You mean "hope springs attorney." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gifYou both mean "spring hopes attorney." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gifAnyone got a cheese sandwich?

  3. The following appeared in a special "Summerfest Edition" insert in Madison's (probably also Milwaukee's) print copies of The Onion today. I haven't found evidence of an online version yet, but it's worth keying in:
  4. I struggle with anxiety myself, so I'm noticing a soft spot for the MLB players who are having problems with it (even when they play on teams I dislike). I'm surprised at how many there have been this season: Dontrelle Willis and Khalil Greene come to mind offhand, now Votto too. Because it's something I live with, I've noticed each of these diagnoses as they're announced - so I'm fairly confident that I would have noticed similar cases in previous years. Maybe it's only in 2009 that teams feel comfortable announcing it instead of coming up with some other explanation. Since one of my triggers for anxiety is health problems (worrying about them), I can totally imagine myself having some dizzy spells, as Votto has had, and then freaking out.
  5. Thanks for doing the homework, pretendastronaut. I haven't had time to. I would so be in a Brewers focus group...in case anyone from the organization is reading.
  6. There appears to be a Cubs "Chase the Dream"cap on eBay. So go ahead, saxyman1004, chase that dream.
  7. The S.O. got an email from the Brewers this afternoon stating that the Monday, June 29 game vs. the Mets will now start at 6:05 PM, to accommodate an ESPN telecast. I don't see an official release on brewers.com yet, but their schedule page does list a 6:05 start time now for 6/29. So, goody goody, another national TV appearance. I can't decide what shade of blue to use for that.
  8. Are you serious? I am pretty sure that is photoshopped.Well, it wasn't on my Facebook page, so I don't know its origin. Even if it is photoshopped, the image does not bug me.
  9. What's bugging me is having to stay late at work, during a week when I already have to work overtime on Saturday (unpaid of course...your tax savings at work), because an employee forgot that the new schedule went into effect this week.
  10. My goodness, is Sowers undressing in that picture? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif May he feel the need to do so again tonight. Don't let up, Brewers, and please, have Yo's back.
  11. THIS is why you don't say "Game over" before the game is over. Way to hang in there, Brewers.
  12. Late to the party (I was in the shower), but I'm blasting this now, even in our non-partying neighborhood: Prince's song Not that it's over, but sweet crap, Prince.
  13. I began wondering this at least a week ago. A players-only meeting or Braun commentary probably couldn't hurt.
  14. Lou Brown: All right people, we got 10 minutes 'till game time, let's all gather 'round. I'm not much for giving inspirational addresses, but I'd just like to point out that every newspaper in the country has picked us to finish last. The local press seems to think that we'd save everyone the time and trouble if we just went out and shot ourselves.
  15. Rachel Phelps: Maybe the problem is... we're coddling these guys too much. Yeah!
  16. Uecker (on throwing tonight's ceremonial first pitch): "I tried to take out their catcher, but he blocked it." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Edit: back to the movie... Willie Mays Hayes: Well listen, if we ever get out of here, me and the other guys are going to a club later on tonight. You want to come with us? Jake Taylor: [frustrated[/i]] Oh, I can't, I got some reading to do. Willie Mays Hayes: [rolls his eyes[/i]] What man, you got a test or something? Jake, man why don't you just go over there and see her. Maybe she'll let you slide on a couple of these. Jake Taylor: Well I would if I knew where she lived. Willie Mays Hayes: That's easy! Just tail her home from the library. Jake Taylor: You mean sit in my car and wait for her to get out of work and then follow her? That's kind of juvenille don't you think? Willie Mays Hayes: [ponders it for a split second[/i]] Yeah!
  17. Stop the madness, Brewers. For fun (hopefully not the only fun) tonight...since it's Major League night in Cleveland, add your favorite (forum friendly) quote from that 1989 classic movie.
  18. We just need to get funding from Mr. Burns. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ka_vdcAq2is/RuKuMCX_UVI/AAAAAAAAAlM/t6IByhzNxTU/s320/128.+Who+Shot+Mr.+Burns+-+Part+1.bmp
  19. Isn't that code for "this needs to be done and I want you to do it"? I'll admit, I've said the same kind of thing to the S.O. I'm trying to ask more directly lately, though.
  20. Based on feedback from members and discussion among Brewerfan staff and moderators, we are altering our approach to moderating in the Fan Forum. Most notably, we are moving away from the formal "three strikes" system. This is due in part to time constraints of staff and moderators, and the record-keeping and coordination associated with the strike system. Coupled with the new system is a more relaxed view of the in-game thread rules that were posted at the start of the season. Since the new system is not based on strikes, members with one or two strikes against them don't have them anymore. (Banned persons remain banned.) If you violate the Fan Forum Etiquette, you'll be contacted by a moderator or staff member, just as before, with a description of the violation and our response - which could range from a warning to a temporary ban to a permanent ban. Although the new system will surely have its own strengths and weaknesses, we expect it to be less cumbersome and more responsive and flexible. There have been very few issues since we began using it. As always, feel free to PM site staff or moderators to raise issues that need attention.
  21. Milton Bradley Loses Track Of Outs from Mark Townsend on Vimeo. As Salomon Torres told us last September, you can wait no more.
  22. I'd like to start this post by giving a sarcastic shout-out to the loge infield season ticket holding fans who sold out to white sox nation today. Way to show up for your team. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif Having said that, though the visiting fans were out in pretty big numbers, they weren't overly in-your-face, the way some large packs of visiting fans from Chicago tend to be. I consider myself to be sensitive (probably too sensitive) to that kind of thing, and I did not feel encroached upon today. I also saw a guy with an official-looking White Sox jersey with CUBS SUCK embroidered on the back in place of a player name. As davego noted, hate can bond. Since the Brewers are on the road for Father's Day, players' and employees' kids joined the starting lineup on the field instead of "major league moment" kids. That was neat. Ryan walked out to LF holding someone's infant (I didn't catch whose) - which you'd think would only add to the dreams of his female fanbase - and as soon as Corey's name was called in the starting lineup, the Hart and Catalanotto kids waiting in RF were jumping up and down excitedly (I suppose mostly the Hart kids). Then, during the national anthem, as they showed the Hart/Catalanotto kids, Corey's son began waving at the camera. Cute stuff. Oh, yeah, the game. Obviously several of today's IGT participants are frustrated, but I didn't think this game was as dispiriting as the other losses in this homestand. The three spot Looper yielded was more the kicker for me than the run Hoffman gave up. Looper seemed to have OK innings before and after that. With Hoffman, we all knew he was unlikely to be bulletproof for an entire season. I might consider using words like pathetic, terrible or horrible if they'd been no hit, or completely raked like the Mets or the Braves were today, or if Looper had turned in an outing more like Parra's the day before. They had a 7-2 win, a 7-1 loss and a close game today. If I have to choose between the Brewers being in a playoff eligible spot for the entire month of June or the last day of the regular season, I'll pick the latter 1000 times out of 1000. Move on to Cleveland; and let's hope the Indians do well for tonight, and tonight only.
  23. Seconded on pretendastronaut feeling better. The Manny meltdown couldn't have helped you. Come on, Brewers, give me a reason to smile today - a real smile, not one of those wry bittersweet ones.
