  1. You know, just as I aim to be generally upbeat about the Brewers, so do I try for the Badgers. But it felt to me (and in no way do I possess a "basketball mind") like Trevon was more part of the problem than part of the solution tonight. At least there were some enjoyable parts. And we didn't have to take the bus tonight.
  2. From the link in fondybrewfan's lead post: There's obviously nothing funny about this incident (I was just thinking how this story has set back even farther my timetable for ever flying again), but the thought of this being related to terrorism sounds a bit absurd. Edit: Gah, way to squander post #9000.
  3. Indeed he was.
  4. I'm glad I'm not the only one here wondering that exact thing. Smiles, everyone.? Smiles.
  5. I think our 2008 letter was dated January 22.
  6. From Madison's channel3000.com this morning: Cue local controversy in Beaver Dam....now. Seriously, are they trying to show they're tougher than every other school district in southern Wisconsin? Or are they on the verge of extending the school year into July, and don't want to do that? Like ttsather, I bundled up a little more than I normally would this morning and could still feel the cold getting through during the two block walk from the bus stop to the library. I felt a little freezing sensation inside my nose and thought of this thread and Chio151's comments.
  7. Yeah, no kidding. I highly doubt they bring in a current TMJ voice. I was thinking they might have to use a current TMJ voice only for the 2009 Talkin' Brewers "season," just because how much time would there be to get a completely new person up to speed? Unless the Brewers' audition field includes more knowledgeable locals than I'd guess.
  8. (fingers and toes crossed)I still wonder who will do Talkin' Brewers in February if it's not JP - it's mighty short notice for that already. The most likely option would be one of the (in my opinion lesser) TMJ voices, which would create a small dilemma for me: listen to the last-minute replacement or bypass what little on-air Brewers news there is? I'm not sure I like either option.
  9. Our school district doesn't have a rule written down. High school students today aren't real happy hearing about the other districts that do.Well, your school district started late this morning for "only" minus-teens-and-twenties wind chill. I think you'll have tomorrow off, unless the forecast is uncommonly inaccurate or your district is concerned about extending the school year into July. (By now you must be going a ways into June already.) Not to make the high schoolers read and weep, but here is the Madison Metropolitan School District's weather policy. The extreme cold section looks like the most cut-and-dried part of the document.
  10. I'd still kind of like to see them re-re-renamed the Disney Angels. It's so much faster to say.
  11. Incorrect. I don't even have to look this up. It was Greg Harris. Williams pitched like 2 innings of solid relief before Harris entered the game in the 9th. Yeah, manager Bobby Valentine made a pitching change "which he may or may not regret" (another sound bite I can recite from my ancient 10th inning show cassette recording).
  12. July 10, 11, 12 are the dates for the scheduled LAD at MIL series. Baseballs taking flight...
  13. I hate to tell you, but the current National Weather Service forecast for Milwaukee says the "high" on Thursday will be -3. So "5" may be only a pipe dream. The current NWS forecast for Madison says 3 today, -20 tonight, -6 Thursday, -21 Thursday night, all with 10-15 MPH winds and wind chill readings -15 to -25 today and -30 to -40 tonight through Friday. If I recall correctly, the Madison K-12 schools close whenever a wind chill warning is in effect, so a "cold day" can probably be expected for Thursday, maybe Friday since the wind chill warning is currently set to last through noon Friday. If the current forecast holds, we'll be busting out shorts and flip-flops Sunday, when it's supposedly going to reach 27. Above.
  14. If this is inevitable, part of me wishes they'd just up and announce it, so I can get going with my Brewers Radio Network-related mourning.
  15. Not to be overly nit picking, but I think you are combining elements of the Rob Deer and Dale Sveum HR calls. The Deer HR call was along the lines of, "A curve ball, drilled to deep left, gonna get (or putting it) WAY WAY WAY outta here, and GONE for Deer! And they have TIED it at FOUR! WHOA-WHOA!" The Sveum HR call was more of a classic "Right field and deep! Get up! Get up! Get outta here! GONE! For Sveum! AND THEY'VE DONE IT AGAIN..." etc. as sheetskout indicates above. I'm remembering this much without benefit of my crappy 1987 Radio Shack cassette at home. I've listened to it that much over time. Oh, the nerdiness.
  16. I've wondered at times how things were going. I'm delighted to hear this. Thanks for letting us know.
  17. My absolute first thought upon reading Sam's post: FREE GINTER! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif But seriously, if I were asked, I'd vote in Burdette (come on, three wins in a single WS) and Logan from the Braves; and "Mr. Warmth" Caldwell and Higuera from the Brewers. The votes I'd cast for strictly sentimental reasons are for Joe Adcock, my mom's favorite Brave back in the day; Andy Pafko because he and I share a birthday; Pete Vuckovich because he was a crazy (and crazy good) dude who didn't let injuries slow him down (even if they maybe should have at times); and Rob "a fly ball! Drilled to deep left!" Deer. When Dale Sveum becomes eligible, I'll vote for him too.
  18. So, since (per TH) eligibility for the walk-of-fame ballot requires spending at least three seasons in a Brewers uniform, that eliminates CC Sabathia from consideration.
  19. Being the bf.net organizational soldier that I am, if I can't be at Miller Park for a game, my "venue" of choice is in front of a computer that displays brewerfan.net. (As long as the chat room or IGT isn't chockablock with whiners, that is.) Like CheezWizHed, I enjoy the radio broadcasts at least as much as most telecasts.
  20. So, maybe I won't have to scowl to myself every time I catch a 58 bus to or from work anymore. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Thinking more positively, I'll strive to remember Guillermo for coming into the 12th (or 13th?) inning on August 24 last year, with the bases loaded and no out, and shutting down the side. Granted, it was the Pirates, but still. I remember thinking during that inning, "if Mota can pitch out of this jam, maybe anything is possible."
  21. If I were in your shoes, I'd call the Fan Zone and ask. The number on the Brewers' website is 1-888-DUGOUT4. I don't know if that's a generic MLB fan zone number or one specifically for the Brewers' store.
  22. I got a facebook message this afternoon from a friend saying, "I see an ex-Brewer got one vote"...and I admit, at first I thought someone had stepped up for Dan Plesac. I'd completely forgotten that Jesse Orosco was on the ballot until I checked this evening. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif Sorry, Jesse.
  23. Nicely played. What's the Rays' message board equivalent to Brewerfan? We need to send them this suggestion, and make darn sure bf gets credit for it.
  24. Epic....also, not yet mentioned, surprisingly, the 1987 Easter Sunday HR calls.Marc Newfield of Dreams mentioned the Easter Sunday '87 call. I was home for spring break that day, and somehow had the presence of mind (once I stopped jumping up and down and yelling) to pop a crappy RadioShack cassette tape into my brother's crappy RadioShack stereo tape deck and recorded the highlights off Pat Hughes' 10th inning show. So I have the Deer and Sveum home run calls, with Pat's commentary in between. I still have the tape at home and if I played it tonight, I still could pretty much recite everything Pat says. I wish I had the equipment to put that in mp3 format. I've heard of the "Jeremy" home run call described by Warhawk Joe, but don't think I've ever actually heard the call. Also, to add something new to the list, I've enjoyed Jim Powell's call of the Ryan Braun walkoff grand slam quite a bit since I first heard it during our walk back to the Giants parking lot on the night of September 25. His voice immediately goes up like an octave (maybe not literally) as soon as the ball left Ryan's bat: "2-2 on the way, SWINGANDADRIVETO LEFT! Way back! Way gone! Grand Slam Ryan Braun!" It just made me tear up, again.
  25. Yeah, I'll bet it was and for some reason it's not among the things we saved from the 07-08 offseason. So if that practice is continued, season ticket holders (at least 20 game customers and up) will have an opportunity to buy up to four additional opening day tickets, sometime in the next month. The other avenue for single game tickets to the 2008 home opener was showing up early for that Arctic Tailgate in February. Time will tell if they offer that again this year.
