  2. Sorry, Patrick. I find when I click on "quote" at the bottom of a post I wish to quote, the quotee's name appears in the top of the box (as it does above). Your entire post doesn't appear above because I edited what was in the box. Does that help? If it's of any comfort, it was a while before I figured it out myself. (No offense, casey.)
  3. Good to know, but hard to tell from the original post; and we've had too many threads regarding meat vs. no-meat deteriorate into arguments and lockitude. Indeed, I'll lock this thread now.
  4. Wasn't there a mention of a bone spur in his elbow at the time he was on the DL for the hyperextended elbow? I generally remember hearing that on the radio or something and thinking, hmm, that sounds worse than just a hyperextended elbow. I wonder how much of Riske's season was hampered by injury now. Edit: As seen on WTMJ! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. I haven't seen the graphic myself, but it sounds like it listed the longest drought by sport. The Brewers have the longest postseason drought in MLB at 26 years. The longest in the NFL is 9 years for the Cardinals, etc.
  6. I notice stuff like that all the time (my mother has always said I should have been a copy editor) but don't usually comment on it, unless the usage miscue changes the intended meaning of a post or other statement. I'd like to think that none of us come across as "grammar nazis." In my mind, someone whose career is communicating, like a sports anchor, should be extra careful to get things right - whether it's "expecially", "Jimmy Collins" instead of Rollins, or "Jeff Hardy" instead of J.J. Hardy. (The latter I heard from a since-departed sports anchor in Madison, on two separate occasions.)
  7. As soon as Yount was mentioned in this thread, I thought of that mid-game interview Sunday. Has anyone else been getting "yuku magicians doing maintenance" messages this afternoon? That's as irritating as all get out. (1) Does the Kremblas dismissal make more or less sense now? I don't have an answer for this specific question, but when I saw the headline on brewers.com the other day, the sub-title (which I italicized below) made me do a double take: There are multiple ways to interpret that subtitle, but my read was that there might already be a "major league job" for which Frank wasn't being considered. I remember being mildly surprised when no one here seized on that and wondered if that meant Ned was on his way out. I realize there's not much new I can bring to this long thread. We'll see if the change has the presumably desired short-term value of snapping the players out of their two week super-funk. What might happen in 2009 is arguably more interesting, so the mid-term value of this move is perhaps to give fans hope. Season ticket holders will get renewal materials in mid-October, and going into that period with the knowledge that the 2009 manager will be someone else might make fewer customers tear up their invoices in disgust.
  8. Wouldn't you rather be the Juan Nieves of bf. net? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  9. Who else thinks it's time to bump this thread?
  10. It looks like we won't see Zambrano in this Wrigley series.
  11. No kidding. Has Mat even had a single AB yet? Not to nit pick, but Mat had his first hit during that nasty near-perfecto vs. the Padres last Sunday. He ripped a double into the right field corner. I think that was his second MLB at bat.
  12. Funny you should mention "toxic." I was thinking of bringing a little can of Lysol, or maybe some wipes, to use on our loge seats the next time we sit there. I just hate thinking of CHC fans celebrating in our seats, even if it was at the in-game expense of a team other than Milwaukee. I think this day could arguably be rock bottom for the 2008 season, and one of the worst in franchise history. Certainly one of the worst in the Miller Park era.
  13. The image of Piniella in the Brewers' dugout might be burned in my memory for a while.
  14. Maybe this was the "colonic" series - getting all the toxins out.
  15. I think we should have a forum moment of silence for the Miller Park employees who are on the job at "wrigley north" tonight.
  16. I assume this means we won't be seeing BADGERJOBOB on the forum, since the season has apparently already ended for him. I'm also in the "trying hard not to panic" camp. Here is an analogy that so far has worked for me: If you compare the 2008 season as a whole to one game, the last two weeks are the single-game equivalent of the bullpen giving up enough runs in the 8th inning to tie the game. You thought victory was in the bag, it's not anymore, and that can be infuriating. But it's not out of reach; we as fans just have to (try to) be patient. It's not easy, but it's possible.
  17. That was my guess, as soon as the times for the Miller Park games were announced. Interesting about the ESPN Radio. In Madison I could theoretically switch between 1070 and 1310 and get two radio viewpoints on the same game.
  18. Yeah, it has been said, but it bears repeating. Facility-wise, Miller Park is a reasonable choice (virtually no chance of a weather disruption, a reasonable travel distance for many teams, and the organization has pulled together this type of short-notice, emergency location effort before); but for this particular series, it's not a good location. Besides this being a double whammy for the Astros and their fans (as cnycerveceros and others have noted), I expect these games to only reinforce in the minds of the more arrogant CHC fans (I say this acknowledging that not all CHC fans are arrogant, but we know that many who travel to Milwaukee are) that Milwaukee exists to serve at the pleasure of Chicago. I don't want to send this thread on a Wisconsin-inferiority-complex tangent, but think about it: Miller Park is literally becoming Wrigley North tonight and Monday. And it's not like the arrogant part of the CHC fanbase will be grateful or anything; they probably expect this kind of accommodation. I'm sure there are already rumblings of Bud setting this up to favor the Brewers, which is not helpful either (although the way the Brewers have played lately, it might be moot). Ideally (I think), when an "emergency" location is needed for a MLB game, it should be an opposite-league venue unless there is no feasible alternative, i.e. Miller Park should be the backup for only AL games. At least, games with playoff implications should not be played in the venue of a team involved in the same race.
  19. I salute your optimism, Sam, though I'd change your sentence to end "this past fortnight" rather than "this past week."
  20. I know I shook my head a few years ago when I saw a young woman rocking Ugg boots on State Street, on an 80 degree day in September. (Not that the Ugg boots wouldn't have bugged me on their own.)
  21. http://www.starstore.com/acatalog/Simpsons_Scream_Lo.jpg I understand why they are. It just feels so wrong.
  22. Back in April, I remembering posting in this forum about how the Dave Bush-Cole Hamels matchup certainly didn't favor the Brewers on paper. But they played the game and won. Come on, Brewers. You can be heroes, just for one game.
  23. This month to date has certainly been one more Station of the Brewers' Cross (to reuse an analogy created earlier this season by Bring Back the Stein).
  24. I've been a UW Credit Union customer (member, whatever) since 1990 and this has not been my experience at all. I'd say that results can vary widely at both credit unions and banks - which I realize does not help bullox.
  25. if the team can't close the season out strong and they end up missing the playoffs, there aren't going to be many cheers. I think there's a difference between an absence of cheers and thousands, or even hundreds, of people booing. I am embarrassed to be around Brewer fans while they are booing the Brewers. I agree with obsessedwithbrewcrew that the booing could result in a "home field disadvantage." That probably means about half the Brewerfan membership thinks I'm a naive chump, and I guess I can't stop you from thinking that. To me, not openly tearing down the people you ostensibly support seems like a very basic part of being a fan. Obviously, our membership is irrevocably split on this issue, and my post won't change anyone's mind. If the Brewers are unsuccessful in signing young(ish) talent such as Corey Hart, I will consider fan behavior part of the reason why, and I'll be sad for the franchise (and the fans who don't boo) as a result. I'd have to add, good luck finding players who either are fully impervious to booing or who take the booing out of the equation by never, ever faltering on the field. If I were regularly jeered in my workplace, I'd certainly consider changing workplaces.
