  1. I'm determined to find something good to say about my time at the ballpark today. The weather was great. I was happy to meet mlccrispy34 and his wife (at least the Brewers split the games you saw), and to cross paths with bensheeps and his son. The Corey Hart bobble more resembles the early-season shaggy Corey than the buzzcut Corey of recent months. This pleases me. A really great added touch would have been to include some tiny Sharpie pens or press-on art, so fans could replicate Corey's tattoos if they so chose. I was mildly entertained today by a fan a few rows in front of me, sporting some very faded Zubaz shorts in 1980s Brewers colors. That's some kind of old-school. Gamel's hit was a sight for sore eyes. We'll be ready when you are, Mat.
  2. We got home after the laughably bad Brewer game today to find a kid up the block having a screaming tantrum...outdoors, for the whole neighborhood to hear. (I don't think she was reacting to the Brewers, either.)
  3. Brewers for me, though I'll probably follow via radio instead of TV. I burned out on the NFL long ago.
  4. Hey! No Brewer had a worse day today than 0-for-3. (at the plate, at least)
  5. The Brewers clinched a winning season - on September 6 - and their second consecutive winning season since 1991-92.
  6. Tip of the cap to wibadgers23 for your selection of Chris Young photo. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Come on, Brewers. Please make the game as much of a positive as the Corey Hart bobblehead that will be given out.
  7. That was some big-boy pitching. Thanks, Ben!
  8. Psst, Brewers...remember when you used to come out strong against other teams' ace pitchers? How about vs. Jake Peavy?
  9. I was going to say, I thought he was a gonna be the future...hopefullly. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. I heard the same during the radio broadcast Thursday night. The CHC-HOU series is September 12-14.
  11. I wondered the same thing. Maybe there would be fewer mini-backups on Blue Mound Road as people stop to get peanuts. (Slight silver lining?) I think the Brewers should tread carefully when tweaking the carry-in rule. Wisconsinites are thrifty and seize value wherever they can get it. Stopping all carry-ins at once could create a backlash. Phasing it in might be more acceptable (food one year, drink the next, or vice versa). Stopping all carry-ins in combination with a ticket price increase (the latter is something I've been expecting for 2009) would create a double whammy that I doubt would be well received. We don't usually buy a lot of ballpark food, both because of the price and because of the "nutrition facts" about most MP fare. We prefer to stop and eat on the way to a game. If we're pressed for time (which has happened more often this year, due to traffic issues caused by bigger crowds and road construction), we'll stop at Milio's or some such place and bring in sandwiches, but we could return to eating at Milio's or wherever if that means being able to eat more cheaply (and at least a little more healthfully). The exception might be if the Brewers win the World Series; then maybe people won't care. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. I'd be a lot more upset by this if someone other than Sabathia had been involved in the play. This is a big part of it for me. How much more frustrating would it be if the whole of Brewer nation were shaking their fists at Rickie (sorry, Rickie, but you're an easy example) for muffing a grounder and messing things up for CC? If I can only choose one, I'd rather have a one-hitter and a postseason, than a no-hitter and no October games.

  14. Separate blankets/bedding FTW. I need some kind of bedding over me, even if it's just a light sheet in summer. In winter one of my favorite things is hunkering down under a flannel sheet and a quilt. The S.O. has his favorite blanket and that's that. It's actually weird when we travel and have to share a sheet set in a hotel or something.
  15. The Mets lost two of three to the Brewers in their home park in April. The last two games have been vexing, but it's not like the Brewers have been completely pwned by the Mets. It's difficult to maintain an even keel over the Brewers right now, but I do not think it's time to panic.
  16. I would be reasonably at peace with a split of the season series. Help your own cause, Brewers.
  17. Does anyone remember the night Graeme Lloyd rode in from the bullpen in the sidecar of a motorcycle? That was awesome, especially for someone of his stature.
  18. Ah, Brewers, I'm just finishing up a very long and hectic workday. Please give me something happy to hang my hat on by day's end. (They're probably done looking at the internets for the evening, but it can't hurt to ask, right?)
  19. Jason Kendall, being bulldog tough, could have handled CC. Thus I favor ewizabeff's theory above.
  20. When they are on they look filthy and unhittable. But when they are off, they get lit up in a hurry. That's about it; and I don't know how anyone (including Ned) can tell in advance which version you're going to get.
  21. I've been wondering about this as his (presumably brief) Brewers' resume gets shinier and shinier: will we forever be like "Hey, remember when we had CC Sabathia? Wasn't that terrific?" a la the '82 team. We'll get our first clue on July 7, 2013: CC Sabathia Tribute Night I.
  22. Well, if your hair is in the way, an adhesive bandage isn't going to help anyway. Maybe that "liquid bandage" stuff could keep it in check without your having to stick something on your head or shave your head. Something like this (though I suppose not a product sold in Canada). Check a Walgreens. If there's a pharmacist on duty, ask for advice at the counter. As for simply checking out your head, a hand mirror (that you can hold behind your head while looking in your bathroom mirror or something) might be useful. Either that or a patient and sympathetic neighbor. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  23. The prices quoted to season ticket holders represent "savings off gate price." At least, that statement is printed on our invoices. For another perspective, I dug out the woulda-been 2007 tickets we got last year. Here are the per seat prices printed on the tickets, for a Terrace Box location: Tiebreaker - $14.00 NLDS - $18.00 NLCS - $45.00 WS - $175.00 I don't know if that's 'gate price' or 'season ticket holder price.' You can figure on them being a little pricier for 2008.
  24. By a show of hands, has Mota earned back the right to pitch in the 6th/7th inning when needed, or do most people still not trust him? I'll admit it. I wouldn't have minded seeing Mota before or instead of Gagne today. I don't know that I'll embrace Guillermo from here on out, but he has earned his way out of my Mota-torium. Thing is, though, so many of the bullpen guys are just a roll of the dice. In the Gagne/Mota/Riske type role, they all seem to have about an equal chance of success or failure. If they are participating in October games, I might just be taking some extra concourse walks. What I want to know is, who else was thinking "big boy" thoughts when Sheets left the game? (I say this not having checked for updates on his condition.) There were a lot of Mets fans at MP today - not a majority by any means, but definitely enough to be noticeable. Happily (and somewhat surprisingly), all the Met fans I encountered were just fine to be around. They were clearly happy with the 8th inning and beyond, but they weren't in our faces by any means. What surprised me also were the number of cubs fans. Were they there just to hate on everybody? Anyway - pick up, dust off, focus on Tuesday.
  25. Welcome to September, aka Big-Boy Time. Everybody step up, now.
