  1. Well, the weather and the cold/flu season probably already make the winter meeting a "game day" decision for a lot of people.
  2. Welcome back! Now go challenge the Bill Hall signing. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  3. Oh, right. The roll call. I'm bringing myself and the S.O. That's two.
  4. Don't forget - the Brewerfan.net Winter Meeting 2007 is coming up quickly! Saturday, February 17 9:00 PM is the start time, but don't feel like you can't come earlier. Pooley's, a large sports bar just northeast of Madison, near I-90/94 (5441 High Crossing Blvd). Directions to Pooley's: From I-90/94 Southbound: Take Hwy. 151 north toward Sun Prairie. Turn right on Nelson Rd. and right again on High Crossing Blvd. You'll find Pooley's on your left on the east side of the road. From I-90/94 Northbound: Exit High Crossing Blvd. Turn right and you will find Pooley's on your right (east side of road.) If you're in the city of Madison and not taking the interstate: Hwy 151 is East Washington Avenue in town. Take E. Wash out past East Towne Mall, turn right on Nelson Rd. and right again on High Crossing Blvd. Pooley's is on your left. The Winter Meeting (our third annual) is a fun opportunity to talk Brewers and meet some of your fellow posters in person. We hope you can join us! Edited to insert yet another reminder.
  5. Rob Deer and Dale Sveum = the salve for my Badger wound tonight. I appreciate that the Texas announcers said so little in the immediate aftermath of those two home runs, letting the pictures (and the crowd noise) tell the story. I either never realized or had long forgotten that the Brewers' 12th win was also the 9th loss in a row for the Rangers. Part of me enjoyed seeing Mitch Williams pout in the dugout after he was removed from the game - sporting that little baby mullet of his. Could be worse, Mitch - some day you could be a Cub. Back on 4/19/1987, I was at my mom's house for Easter (heading back to college soon after) and we had the radio on. I remember jumping up and down and whooping on my mom's back porch during that glorious bottom of the ninth. After the game I thought quickly enough to pop in a Radio Shack cassette in my brother's Radio Shack stereo (guess what Monroe's primary source of retail electronics was?) to record part of Pat Hughes' 10th Inning Show, so I actually have the 9th inning highlights. I can recite most of it by heart (including Pat's comments) and more often than not it brings a tear to my eye. That was a seriously special day. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  6. I've been looking forward to this broadcast. Remember how warm it was that day? (in southern Wisconsin, at least)
  7. I'll join you and many others in hoping for the best.
  8. 214 pitches by Toronto's staff...and it's the 8th. Oh, yeah.
  9. Microsoft Outlook. Cringe all you want, but the State of Wisconsin has decreed that agencies (besides the UW System) shall all use Outlook and the standardization will save Wisconsin tax dollars. Unfortunately, something went awry with my account and I have lost up to three months worth of what I thought was saved mail. IT has done what it could (2 of our 3 IT guys were on the case for most of the midday). At least they were able to rescue my address book - so I can notify people why I lost track of a lot of what they sent me since November. I'm trying to work up the nerve to reopen Outlook and see just how much I've lost. But this is bugging me.
  10. Do I win anything for putting us over the top??? LV, you win exactly what I won for starting the 2007 effort: unending thanks from Brian. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif This is also what the other donors in between win. Plus we all get continued access to this superb website. Truly, we are all winners.
  11. I'll bump this up to point out that the bf.net Winter Meeting is one month from tonight. Thirty-one short days! (and in terms of daylight hours, they are short days) Come one, come all, to Pooley's - just a little past East Towne Mall in that zone between Madison and Sun Prairie. (Madison area posters, show up in force, or else we may never get a bf.net event again...)
  12. If there is not already, that should be a man law. There shall be no mention of a no-hitter until said no-hitter is complete or broken up. Let's call it a fan law, as I'm behind it too. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. That was a lot of fun to watch. Edited to show how I was agreeing with Colbyjack. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Daron, since he always used to say how he never believed in superstition, would probably be blabbing about it every two minutes... Daron can feel free to jinx any Diamondback's no-hit bid against the Brewers by blabbing about it. Even if it's Sharpie. (There, I said it. Perhaps the healing has begun.)
  14. Mike Hegan, I assume, as well as Jim Paschke.
  15. You guys don't want to know why I missed the live broadcast of this game. But I'm going to tell you anyway. I had to attend a lecture for my German class (Advanced Conversation and Composition), which had nothing to do with our class except that it was delivered auf deutsch. The top was male infertility. Even almost 20 years later, I wish I were making this up. The point of the lecture was to get us accustomed to hearing lectures in German, for those going abroad. I brought my Walkman, hoping to at least catch parts of the game, but my professor sat down next to me, which eliminated that possibility. I returned home to my dorm room to find a message my roommate had scrawled on our dry erase message board: "Laura: Thad called. Brewers got a no-hitter." (Thad was my S.O. at the time - a Pirates fan.) And that was how I found out about it. Stupid lecture... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif Otherwise I probably would have watched it at Memorial Union. (I didn't have a TV in my dorm room and the lounge TV would have had some girly programming on it, as I lived in an all-girls dorm.)
  16. This is the most I've ever seen of this historic game. A few thoughts: Juan Nieves entered this game with (I believe they said) a 10.13 ERA. This might prove that we should never stop believing. I mean, yeah, the team streak mojo was underway, but would anyone have expected a no-hit performance out of Nieves that night? Man oh man. Despite that thought...wow, were there ever a lot of near hits! It's only the 5th and besides the Paciorek catch, there was the just-foul bunt and at least two deep-hit but barely foul flyballs. I am loving the plugs for "Super 18" programming. That takes a person back! Edit: I noticed the obviously old flag too. I'd be interested to know what was up with that.
  17. The ads at the bottom of the page are my way of trying to earn some money. Hopefully they're not too much of an eyesore. Not a problem. Besides, in this thread they all advertise for popup blockers. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Along that line, is there supposed to be a banner of Google ads across the bottom of each forum page? Maybe ezboard hates me and is singling me out. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif Edit: I tried a "public" machine here at the library (set up to not retain browser history) and also got the popup ad. It's almost always for Vonage.
  19. Both home and work. Both IE and Firefox. And I don't recall allowing popups on this site.
  20. Is anyone else getting a popup ad when logging in to the fan forum? (after you click Login and before being prompted for username and password) It just started happening to me in the last couple of days. I assume it's an ezboard thing, but I'm already sick of it.
  21. Sounds like Jamie LaRussa has a new toy to play with. I thought he was "Dusty" Siegel.
  22. Here's the bit that struck me: if the Phils somehow pry right-handed hitting Kevin Mench from the Milwaukee Brewers. I'm pleased to think that someone might consider Mench to be worth more than a bag of balls.
  23. What's this "Master of his Domain" stuff? It's not entirely bf.net-friendly, but here: LINK
  24. I had today off and woke up with my second cold of the season. I hope this one is over in less than six weeks. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  25. Speaking of my dad, he got carded buying a six pack of beer last summer. He was four months shy of his 79th birthday, and it's probably fair to say he looks his age. Pick 'n Save cards everybody. I'd hate to be one of the grocery checkers having to carry out that policy. Customers must surely comment/gripe/make bad jokes about it constantly.
