  1. I have a strange (and probably temporary) fondness for the Counselnino days, if only for the outstanding platoon names. If I weren't familiar with the current roster challenges, I'd swear this lineup was the result of a dare or lost bet. But they don't play games on paper. Honestly, I think a "win" for tonight would be no new or worsening Brewers injuries.
  2. I received a report Monday morning that the main site is inaccessible. I've started the notification chain. In the meantime, it's never a bad idea to maintain a bookmark or favorite for direct access to the forum: forum.brewerfan.net.
  3. Move over, Yuni B, we have a new Mr. Golden Hands.
  4. Today is my mother's birthday, and I think she will appreciate no (apparent) Molina in the lineup.
  5. Chiming in late...I'll admit to having been in the DO NOT WANT camp when it came to signing Lohse, but Sunday's game went a ways toward turning my attitude around. It was fun to watch him locked in and dealing, even if it was against a Pirate "Sunday lineup." It was a very Sunday crowd yesterday, at least in the central loge sections. 1:10 first pitch apparently now means "stroll in anytime between 1:10 and 1:50, paying no attention to whether you're making a row's worth of fans get up in the middle of a play. And then once your whole party is seated, someone get up for food." I get it, mostly, when families with young kids are involved, but some of these groups were all grownups. I didn't notice it as much in the same seats on Friday night.
  6. I remember when BW3 entered the Madison market. The full name at the time was Buffalo Wild Wings & Weck. Wikipedia backs this up.
  7. Oh, you think so? *pauses to gaze at the navy at upper left*
  8. AND HANK THE ADORABLE BALLPARK PUP. But seriously (and what could be more serious than Hank?), Brewerfan's own zachlaka is one of the dudes in yellow pants and satin retro jackets. Their group appears twice in the video, first at about :25. Zachlaka is front and center, beard, no glasses. The second appearance is toward the end, at about 2:45.
  9. Aw, there's still an active Nyx in the MLB. Hoorayyyyy for unnecessary Ys!
  10. How long before there's a separate Tommy John league? My goodness.
  11. Yup. Here at hawing HQ we were wondering if the Kentucky players' housing leases only go through Monday night. I guess I'm assuming they pay for housing. It's easy for me to say, especially since my main sport to follow is just underway, but look at all Wisconsin accomplished this year. A perennially highly touted group of NBAers had to give their all just to squeak by the Badgers. They belonged in the Final Four.
  12. There are a few versions currently on YouTube. Here's one Is there any official Cardinal Spin on this yet?
  13. Well, on the up side that was an almost-completely-sweet performance from Garza.
  14. From TB 417, it sounded like about a 90/10 cheer-boo ratio. I definitely heard some of the latter. Some around us stood but not everyone. I was taking photos so I didn't have hands free to applaud. Roster-wise, I'm glad Ryan's back. Personality-wise, he has never been my most favorite or least favorite, so I decided months ago that I would neither put him on a pedestal nor damn him to hell. I was surprised (for some reason; probably shouldn't have been) that FSWI chose Ryan for the first post-game interview, the one that made it on the videoboard. I'd rather have heard from Aramis, as he drove in the runs. I was more surprised to discover later that ESPN and MLBN cut live to Ryan's first at-bat. But media narrative, I guess. This Twitter retort from the unofficial Hank the Dog account was special, at least: You go, fake dog representative. Pretty sure I have no desire to meet Sarah Spain, though the "sarcastic smartass" part of her Twitter bio does appear to be accurate.
  15. Saw the FSWI replay of the Polish going down hard in the sausage race. Ouch.
  16. It might be, but I think a bunch of posters were at the game. I seem to never get much of a data signal inside the stadium on opening day, I suppose because of the extra large crowd, so I could not have navigated to Tapatalk. I was happy to see a win and especially happy for weather that actually resembled spring. From our vantage point I thought the call on Aramis that clinched the double play was wrong and review-worthy. (To show that I am not merely a blind homer, I didn't have a problem with the review or the outcome of Ryan's play at first.) From the first base side of the terrace box, we definitely heard some boos for Ryan. The S.O. estimated a 90/10 ratio of cheers to boos. The folks around us were clearly happily nostalgic for Lyle Overbay, based on the OOOOOOOO chants. And good lord, the Hank factor. I saw people of all ages wearing Hank shirseys, and one fan wearing a Hank jersey. I'll say what I've said previously here and in other spots on the internets: I'm happy he's got a home now, but I hope he can resume a normal dog life soon. I'm endlessly glad baseball is back, but by about 2:00 yesterday I realized how ready I was for a normal game with a more normal audience.
  17. Amen to that! Here's hoping for lots of good memories in the 2014 season.
  18. I hope those of you who don't favor UW will forgive me this: http://binaryapi.ap.org/507d4d1aac354168a574a549adebaba5/940x.jpg
  19. I am so happy for Bo Ryan. It's nice and likely fitting that they clinched this Final Four berth on what would have been his dad's 90th birthday. On Wisconsin.
  20. I'd sure like to see Bo get a (D1) Final Four onto his resume. I was being all "back in the day" with my students at the library yesterday, describing the improbable 2000 run. I'm still amazed that 25-30K fans showed up at Camp Randall at 12:30 AM to celebrate, without any rioting. That's still one of my all time favorite UW sports moments.
