  1. Matt hasn't done baseball before (apart from his audition for the Brewers gig), but this story suggests it was his first broadcasting dream: madison.com link I'm pretty excited about having Lepay on any type of Brewers call. I've long been a fan of his UW work. He can't replicate the stories Ueck is known for, because no one can. If this were a prelude to a more regular Brewers gig, I'm not sure how well that would mix with his UW commitments. Football and baseball overlap between August and September (October in better years), and in a good hoops year would also overlap in spring training and maybe early April. I wouldn't want a backup voice calling what might be the most important games of the season. If he remains in a backup role, and it means less Craig Coshun or Davey Nelson, no offense, guys, but DO IT.
  2. Now that's a good point. Henderson's window of realistic opportunity to be "bobbled" might well be the shortest of the three, given what seems to be the shelf-life of a closer type. I have to agree on BSC's other point above. The subset of Brewers ticket buying fans who are equally avid about both Brewers and T-Rats bobbles is probably small, so fairly or otherwise, it may not be the audience they try hardest to court.
  3. Unconventional choices would appeal to us die-hard fans, but I can see why the Brewers would choose to appeal to casual fans, whose attendance and dollars are less of a guarantee. I'm voting Peralta too, though I would not be disappointed in a Henderson bobble. For Garza...I don't know, maybe I'm stodgy, but I'd prefer that dude at least have appeared in a game for the Brewers first. I felt much the same way about the Greinke bobble, but unless Garza is traded lightning-quick, he's got several other chances to be immortalized.

  5. I'm home due to the crummy weather between Madison and Milwaukee, but the Interactive Stage interviews are streamed online. Brandon Kintzler, upon being asked what batter he least likes to face, called Carlos Beltran "that frickin' guy."
  6. I've been watching the brewers.com live feed of parts of the On Deck programming. At one point Craig Coshun was described as part of the radio and TV crew. That makes me wonder if he might take some radio-team trips that Uecker does not. This is nothing but my own personal speculation. I'd expect Coshun to remain part of Brewers Live, in any case. Having Lepay on the broadcast team is so great - enough to make me more likely to watch FSWI road telecasts. Imagine what he might do for a home run call.
  7. @AndrewGruman of FS Wisconsin tweet: Doug Melvin says it was contractual details and reviewing the physical that held up the Garza deal.
  8. Several media members are reporting on Twitter that Mark Attanasio has announced at Brewers On Deck that the team and Matt Garza have come to an agreement. It would still need approval at the MLB level.
  9. No worries. To me, his most memorable solid call was predicting the departure of then-president Ulice Payne in the 2003-2004 offseason, which was well before your arrival on the BF scene, torts.
  10. I have ample faith in Adam McCalvy, but I also have faith in foamboy1's sources. Over the last decade-plus, he has contributed information that sounded wild but turned out to be on target. If something messes up the deal, it's probably for a good enough reason to make me conclude that it wasn't meant to be.
  11. I guess I hope the deal doesn't fall through. Four years seems like a longish commitment for a budget challenged team, but I didn't realize Garza is 'just' 30. Assuming it holds, it's nicely timed to boost the On Deck event this weekend.
  12. If Lyle makes the big league roster, will he get his uniform no. 11 back, OR will they change his number so his fans have to get new shirseys? Tiny point to ponder, but it gets my mind off the 1B void.
  13. If GAME or anyone else here ever considers living in a yurt, I can totally connect you to some college classmates of mine who quit their day jobs, moved from Colorado to Vermont and now live in a yurt. They blog about it.
  14. Oh, I didn't perceive any insult. Around here it's kind of nice to be thought of as one of the guys.
  15. Who knows? You might even meet some of the forum women. brewmann04, if you feel comfortable sharing your seat locations once they are established, we can stash them in a forum that members can see without their being all over the internets. Think about that between now and March.
  16. After Corey fled to the Pacific Northwest, I got cynical (for me, at least) about 1B and figured since they're likely to field crap there again, they should at least make it rock-bottom bargain crap. This signing isn't likely to be as inexpensive as plugging in Halton or Morris, but it ought not be as costly as Ike Davis or any acquisition that requires giving up a youngun. Also, more randomly: Mark Reynolds bears just enough resemblance to someone I once had a crush on that his signing has a bit of personal appeal for me. Just one of those things. Does he walk ever, or is he more of a 2TO guy? I almost want to get seats in Toyota Territory or the Dew Deck just because of the slightly increased odds of snaring a HR ball there.
  17. Anyone from Clan LaprilOne is a good addition to the winter meeting. March 22 should be OK for the hawing household. It falls during UW-Madison's spring break, so there is a slim chance I'd have to work until 5 and not be able to leave Madison until after.
  18. I was thinking of March 1 as the other option for the Arctic Tailgate. I wasn't sure the Brewers would want to start something "arctic" in March, but at the rate 2014 is going, it'll probably still be plenty cold then anyway.
  19. I can't help you with the hotel issue, but the first day of single-ticket sales is usually the last Saturday in February. If the pattern holds for this year, that would be the 22nd. The Brewers will announce the exact date in the next few weeks.
  20. I was thinking resignation myself. He could be the Poochie of MLB.
  21. After more than a century of existence, the Chicago Cubs unveiled a mascot today. His name is Clark. http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/19cg7fgg8djx6jpg/ku-medium.jpg USA Today's take Deadspin's take Imma just sit back and watch your reactions, before I chime in with my own. I will admit that I like Deadspin's take better than USA Today's.
  22. If you enjoy this thread and use Twitter, you might also enjoy following @TVGuideArchives. Someone (not from TV Guide) posts images from old issues of TV Guide.
  23. I know he's a good guy, but the Brewers fan in me only thinks of this: Play him off, Keyboard Cat.
