  1. I guess I still have the ability to assess each game in its own vacuum, because I enjoyed myself last night. Of course, with Mass Haas and his cousin in the house, how could we not? I'm really happy the Brewers put together a comeback for MH in particular. Dude only gets here like once a decade. The Scooter-Juan right side of the infield seemed to hold up just fine in the field. I continue to be surprised by the Scooter buzz from the fans; maybe a nickname like Scooter is just that irresistible. The hawing household is "up" to 6-9 on the season, but that beats 5-10.
  2. So I think we can safely figure that the Brewers are the first team to have home runs reviewed into triples in consecutive games. Has a long hit like that ever been scaled back to a triple before Sunday? I'd more expect a possible home run to be ruled either a ground-rule double or a foul/strike.
  3. No, no, no. Someone else on Twitter came up with the platoon name: Juaniesky.
  4. So what are we calling the possible 1B platoon: Betancisco? Francourt (with the T silent, of course)? Yuni-Juan? Were it up to me, I'd go Betancisco.
  5. A genuinely TMI update regarding Wrigley Field's facilities.
  6. I don't have the policy immediately at hand, but if you can bring in sub sandwiches, I don't know why you couldn't bring in brats/burgers.
  7. Welp, let's remember this Philly 9th inning the next time we're tempted to conclude the umpires have it in for the Brewers.
  8. I keep forgetting Mike Adams is still around in the bigs. I'm glad Luc won that at-bat.
  9. It's early, small sample, etc., but just the thought of someone out-Brewersing the Brewers is an odd comfort.
  10. Hooray for the Royals. Boo freakin' hoo for STL.
  11. The Richland County event may be declared a downburst, but there was an EF0 tornado in Grant County briefly: Link
  12. I'm trying to wrap my head around the fact that everyone who has predicted at least six wins for the Brewers in June will have predicted an IMPROVEMENT over May.

  14. For weeknight games (about half the games we attend), we often eat before we get to the park. On Fridays and Sundays we're more likely to get ballpark food. The hawing household experience is complicated slightly by the S.O. being diabetic, but he has found options that work for him. He has charmed the loge-level baked potato ladies into making a custom potato for him (the taco meat plus broccoli). The Cactus League Nachos stand used to offer a taco salad - same toppings but with lettuce instead of chips - but they stopped this year, citing the difficulty of keeping the lettuce fresh. The aforementioned chorizo in a tortilla is a little less carb-y than all the other sausages served in buns, so that has worked out for the S.O. I think it's at least sometimes available on the terrace level. We are both fans of the carved meat station next to section 222 or so. The Hot Cheese stand on the RF side of the loge level has a surprisingly decent grilled cheese, and also (this year) a Cuban sandwich. I occasionally get a bag of kettle corn, which is too sweet for the S.O. but is a big enough bag so I can snack on it for the next week. I don't usually spring for the Chef's Table opponent-themed entree, but when Pittsburgh comes to town I do get the pierogies with kielbasa. Man, I like pierogies. An addendum to rondoman's several posts above: when the crowds are smaller (like they might be for a while going forward, on game days not involving bobbleheads), not all stands are open - but the Guest Relations folks, both field and terrace levels, get a spreadsheet for every game listing what's open and what foods are thus available for each day/night of the season. Don't hesitate to ask. If you visit the terrace level guest relations booth, tell them Laura recommended you.
  15. Daubs, I appreciate your avatar. It reminds me that success happened.
  16. This game is in Milwaukee. You can tell because it'll start on time even if it rains. Sweet criminy, that is a very Sunday lineup.
  17. Given the hole in which the Brewers had landed by the time Donovan entered the game, his debut pretty much became the day's highlight for me. I took a ridiculous number of photos of him pitching. Maybe I'll offer him copies.
  18. The hawing party scored one of each style of Braun bobble. This confounded the fan sitting next to us because we went through the same line and accepted bobbles from the same box. By literally the 3rd inning, the seat neighbor was checking eBay on his phone to see how quickly a retro bobble was posted. (Sorry if that was one of you.) Our history with alternate bobbles is not vast, so this was a nice surprise. (Neither is for sale, in case you were wondering.)
  19. Almost-related: I actually have a Pat Egan spring training jersey, snagged at a Brewers Community Foundation sale at the ballpark last summer. Egan is a surname in my family history and during the 2-3 weeks he was with the club in Arizona, my mom and my aunt were pretty excited about it (though it's highly unlikely we're related). The only drag is that Pat Egan is a tall dude and his jersey is ridiculously long on me.
  20. That beats "bathing" in the sinks of your local library. If you can't imagine, do yourself a favor and don't ask.
  21. I just followed the link to the "pretty amazing Saturday battle" and we were at that game too. I'd brought a group of my student employees and we were hoping to get the giveaway clock, but they were all gone by the time we reached the gate. I'd only been a Brewerfan member for a month or so, thus the significance of Jim's presence was lost on me. *shaking fist at Mike DeJean, just because*
  22. Because of the distance of the hawing commute to MP, the SO and I are unable to provide Mass Haas with the tailgate experience he and Tom warrant. However, if you're a well-wisher* who'll be at Tuesday's (6/4) game and want to stop by to say hello, PM me and I'll share our seat location. We'll be in a section where the ushers usually check ticket stubs, so if I know you might visit, I can alert our usher (who is himself a Brewerfan lurker). *Yes, a well wisher, in that you don't wish Jim any specific harm.
  23. Thanks, but I think I'll settle for the retweets you guys choose to send. Ick. I'm feeling reluctant to wear red today - and I'm heading to UW-Madison to watch afternoon commencement this afternoon.
