  1. Everyone knows the stakes. Everyone is feeling pressure. I manage about 12 people. I remind them weekly (and these people all make 45K or less) that they need to make smart, informed, choices about where they go when they're outside of work, because if they bring the virus to work, everyone will be out of work for a while and not making money and able to take care of their bills, their families, etc, etc, etc. Baseball, software, banking, retail, it doesn't matter, everyone has to make smart informed decisions about what they do with their free time right now and how the decisions they make impact everyone around them. It doesn't matter how much you make, the decisions we make right now impact EVERYONE around us, whether we play baseball or manage an IT network or whatever. Everyone is feeling pressure, everyone wants to play golf or hang out in a bar or go to a movie... but to make those decisions has consequences for the people we'll be around if we work in and around people. Be smart.
  2. I mean, if they can suspend a pitcher 15% of the season for throwing at a known dirty rotten cheater, they should give the commissioner some unilateral power here to suspend these guys a fair amount of time for breaking protocols that actually threaten to put the season at risk.
  3. It might come to that.
  4. I look at it this way. The players are going to be happy they're playing if they want to be playing. Cardinals manager Mike schild even said he wasn't going to complain about having to play three double headers in like a week and a half or something like that he understood the situation is what it is it's a unique season and just getting through it was going to be a success. I understand and agree that it's fashionable to hate the cards, but this season is going to throw a lot of unique and oddball challenges at a lot of teams and a lot of players. If most of the teams get at or close to 60 games I'll honestly be surprised. If they finish this season and play the playoffs and crown a champion that in and of itself will be a success. Playing a little bit of an unbalanced schedule is what it is at this point. If these guys want to play, if they want to make some money this year, they're going to have to suck it up and play through some things that might be considered unfair.
  5. WIthout fans I don't think it matters all that much. THere's going to be a fair amount of teams that lose home games this year. The BLue Jays won't even see Toronto, so I'm not going to complain about playing 31 games out of 60 on the road. This season is presenting a lot of unique challenges, and if the season even gets completed, let alone have a few odd schedule quirks along the way, the players and everyone else will be lucky to see it through to the end.
  6. In the end I think it'll be moot, because if this season makes it 2 more weeks I'll be surprised.
  7. I think that while nothing has changed, I think players are finding out that their fellow players aren't taking this seriously enough to warrant sticking around for 40% of a pro-rated salary. Whatever plan MLB had in place is not nearly (by a long shot) good enough to guarantee safety for players and their families, and after 10 days, it's more than enough look to see that walking away is a good, fair, and safe call by those who choose to do it at this time.
  8. Mirroring the previous poster's thoughts. Just watching the guys in the dugout sitting next to each other, high-fiving, slapping each other, unless they really get a lockdown on this and start actually enforcing the rules they said they were going to enforce I don't see any way that we have another Marlin situation, honestly within the next two weeks. with everyone sitting next to each other and high-fiving and everything that they're doing if one guy has it every single guy on the team is exposed in the three and a half to four hours they're spending in that dugout and clubhouse. They put out a document with this list of safety protocols they were going to follow and they're following none of them. This season isn't going to make it to the end of August if they have a couple more outbreaks.
  9. I'm betting that Manfred and the owners know that there is a chance that this season doesn't make it all the way through. That doesn't mean the plan was doomed from the start, but there is a less than 100% chance that this season makes it to completion.
  10. Watching highlights and watching a few of the games I'm still seeing players high five and the A's game where Olson hit the walk-off Grand slam everybody gathered at home plate to do the obligatory Gatorade bath and pile up at the plate. If 14 Marlins have covid, The rest of the team is at the very least potentially exposed. I know they're doing their due diligence with daily testing, but it seems like they're going to have to get a lot more stringent with actually enforcing the no handshake and high-five rules rather than just paying them lip service. The Marlins are basically going to be fielding a minor league team now, as if they weren't already. Imagine if this was the Brewers and it was yelich, hiura, woodruff, hader, and then seven other random guys. You could pretty much stick a fork in the season right there.
  11. Cooper was all star level for a decent number of years and almost mvp caliber for a few. The problem comes when you start saying things like if he had only played a few more years or if he had played a few more years at the beginning of his career. Cuz you can honestly say that for hundreds of guys. I know the OP isn't saying that Cooper should be in the Hall of Fame, but I definitely feel like when you say things like hypothetically he would have x more number of hits or x more number of homers.....it just opens a big can of worms because again, you can say that for hundreds and hundreds of players that missed out on chunks of their careers for any number of reasons. if, in the event that we opened the Hall of Fame up for guys that were hypothetically good for longer periods, there would be 2,000 guys in in no time.
  12. Like you turbo, I went on to the website, and Arby's site says they are wearing masks and gloves at all locations. Uhhhh, well all except one, maybe? I left a survey like you did. I have gotten contactless delivery a handful of times, and gone through a drive through maybe 5-6 times since this all started. I have to go to gas stations from time to time for more than just gas, and kwik trips are convenient for just about everything. It honestly surprised me to see an entire restaurant full of people not wearing masks (or even worse, honestly) gloves, and handling food.
  13. My wife and I went through the Arby's in Janesville Drive through (yes, I will shame them) on Friday night. Not one employee that was visible from the window (which was probably 6 employees) was wearing masks or gloves. I haven't been to a single other food service place in the last few months that the employees aren't wearing masks and gloves. At the very least, it's just not a good look. Not great optics for customers. Also..... don't make sandwiches with your bare hands. Won't be going back.
  14. RoCo's above post is from over 3 months ago. Bravo on the season length prediction. BAM!!
  15. Buster Posey also opts out
  16. If you're going to post opinions stated as facts it seems like one would have links and information to back those sorts of things up. IMO of course.
  17. David Price opts out of playing this year.
  18. Ryan Zimmerman and Joe Ross deciding today not to play in 2020. Should be noted zims mom has ms and is high risk, so he likely would not be able to see her during the season.
  19. How many Blue Jays players are Canadian? There are going to be zero fans at the games. Find an alternate site for the team in the US. It literally just has to be a baseball park. Any minor league park will do.
  20. So.... Cody Bellinger is Babe Ruth, and Yelich is non-peak Geoff Jenkins. Oof. Can't help but feel like even a .900-ish OPS from Yelich in this sim would be worth about 2 more wins at this point in the season.
  21. 3 Rockies players have now tested positive.
  22. I have had to go to Walgreens to get meds a few times in the last 4 months. Just a couple times I have absolutely not been able to get a family member to pick up prescriptions, and the amount of people that I see wearing masks down on their chins, or over their mouth and not on their nose, or just hanging from their ear is silly. If you're going to take the time to have one, use it properly. We can debate the science of what it does and how effective they are all day, but for cryin' out loud, if you're going to wear one, at least wear it properly.
  23. Philles had several positive cases in their facility. I believe Blue Jays did as well.
  24. All spring training facilities have been closed. Whether or not the two sides agree on a schedule or whatever, I'd say we're getting perilously close to not having any baseball. Or Sports. Golf and NASCAR are a little more manageable I think. Baseball and football and basketball are completely different animals. Clemson football team has 23 players testing positive.
  25. I have a friend that went to work with a fever and he said there was nothing he could do he couldn't risk losing his job despite the fact he knew he was potentially exposing people to covid-19. I'm like, you're not just exposing your co-workers you're exposing their families if you don't at least tell people. He said I can't tell them because if I tell them I have a fever they won't let me come to work. Sigh.... While I'm not excusing your friend, shame on the company that he works for if he is really in the position right now where he risks his job if he stays home from work with a fever. The thing of it is I kind of doubt he was going to lose his job if he called in sick. I think he just didn't want to miss a day, and he's that irresponsible. And I think there's at least a healthy percentage of people that feel that way.
