  1. https://www.mlb.com/video/benches-empty-on-gomezs-triple/c-32232541 To add onto this, Cole hit Gomez up and in the next time the Pirates faced the Brewers.
  2. Solid win over a tough team. They could have folded in the fourth and instead they pulled away in the last few minutes. NBA basketball has ebbs and flows and they rolled with it tonight and won the game. They're still finding their way with some new pieces. They're gonna be fine.
  3. I'm not against going after some rando guy from a foreign league, but that shouldn't be The Plan for the starting shortstop for next year. Throw the stats out in a league that's AA equivalent. That stuff doesn't translate to big leagues. Bring one of those guys in and give him a shot at playing a few days a week and see if he can produce. I'm ok with that, but that shouldn't be the plan for a guy you plan to get 500 - 600 plate appearances.
  4. On Friday an independent contracter/writer wrote an article about Draymond Green and Kevin Durant fighting, and sold it to Deadspin. Within a few hours there were over 1000 comments either bashing the writer as a scab, or bashing G/O media again, so now comments have been disabled on Deadspin (but not the other sections such as Jalopnik or The A/V Club..... yet), but people are continuing to very vocally state their displeasure with Spanfeller and G/O media on the other blogs. Whatever G/O paid for Deadspin was too much, because now it's not worth diddly..
  5. I'm not against Gregorious, but consider that money spent on Didi is money that can't be spent on Moose or Grandal. All these things are (obviously) connected. As others have said, SS is the easiest, clearest place to add wins. Unless you're of the mind that Arcia is going to suddenly add 50 points of OBP, this is the best place to add offense. And no, that's not moving Moose or Shaw to SS. I would guess that adding some one like Gregorious means moving on from Moose and giving Shaw at least a partial shot at regaining the trust to play 3B and produce some offense.
  6. So many managers are or were former players I'd have to guess that maybe there's been others. Just hard to find one. I'd guess it would probably have happened back in the era that guys were semi-regularly player-managers.
  7. The only time I notice that other teams make major uniform changes is when those changes are really really ugly or awful. This is some minor cosmetic changes oh, so like you said, nobody other than fans of the Brewers is even going to notice.
  8. He can be mad that he wasn't used in game 7, fine. If he's got a Boras corp hat in his locker, he had this planned before the game, and he's telling his 24 teammates that his mind during game 7 was somewhere else, in part, or in whole. Is that the guy you want out there with the whole enchilada on the line? Yeah, normally stuff like this doesn't trip my radar, but it's at least a little bit of a dick move.
  9. 1) Badgers absolutely should have won that Illinois game. 2) Illinois looks like they're a bit better team than they were looking like at the beginning of the season. They could end up 6-6 or 7-5. At the end of the season this might not be as "embarrassing" a loss as it looked like a few weeks ago. 3) At some point, it just doesn't matter, and they have to move past it. Pick up the pieces and move on.
  10. I guess the question becomes can he play first base everyday. At the price he's likely to command we're going to want him to play a hundred and twenty or more games
  11. Comparing brewerfan to Deadspin, and then calling it ironic is like comparing apples to coconuts. Deadspin is a multimillion-dollar generating blog that only rarely ran actual Sports stories. Brewerfan is a fan forum message board used to almost exclusively talk about the Milwaukee Brewers
  12. Sure, but if you're doing a fantastic job of recognizing that your niche is appealing to the lowest common denominator, I don't know if anyone should be commended for that. When your website has to shut down the entire comment section because it's absolutely chock full of racist vitriol and hateful, vile namecalling, you might consider what kind of content is bringing those kinds of people there, and not just blame the commenters, which is what Portnoy did. His content is aimed at that demographic, and then says it's their fault when the commentariat reflects it.
  13. Barstool is awful. Dave Portnoy thinks the only place women have in sports is to look slutty for the male viewers and readers. There's "Being woke" (which some of Deadspin's writers work too hard at) and there's a decent middle ground. Barstool definitely falls on the extreme opposite end far too much of the time.
  14. Nobody is saying they shouldn’t have been fired. I think it's more nuanced than that. G/O bought the remnants of Gawker media, which Hulk Hogan had leg-dropped into bankruptcy. Deadspin was by far the most popular blog on the Gawker network. G/O bought it from Univision because of the amount of clicks it generated. Deadspin is a "sports" blog in the same way MTV is a music channel. Telling the writers of Deadspin to stick to sports and then holding that over their heads and threatening their jobs was never going to work. Deadspin GOT clicks because of the irreverent, silly, sometimes dumb posts. The auto-play ad fiasco was just icing on the cake. If you work at a place and you see something that negatively affects your customer base, you SHOULD speak up. How many of us work in a place where autoplay-with-sound ads is completely inappropriate? I'd say more than half. If you go to Deadspin daily and now they start auto playing ads with sound, you may say "Oh yeah, take that off my daily visit list". Not only does that negatively affect your customers, it negatively affects your clicks. I have employees who disagree with me, and I tell them..... sometimes I'll disagree with you, and we're gonna do things my way. Sometimes I'll disagree with you, and we'll try things your way. I'm *guessing* that employees of G/O talked to management about the negative impact auto-play ads would have before publicly complaining about it first, and got turned away. Maybe they didn't. Given that Megan Greenwell quit in August and left with a salted-earth blog post.... well, maybe they didn't. Maybe the writing was already on the wall. These guys bought a "sports blog" without any idea of what it actually WAS. They just saw a site with a ton of traffic, and then clogged the crap out of it with auto-ads and told the staff "write about sports, or else", even though a large majority of those clicks were not there to read "sports news". So should the staff be fired for not doing what they were told? Eh... they were doing what they've always done, and that's running articles that generate a lot of traffic. As I said, I think it's a lot more nuanced issue. If you want box scores and game recaps, ESPN and every other cookie cutter sports site has that.
  15. I haven't checked in on it today (or heard any news about it today). Been a busy day until the last hour or so.
  16. I am a regular reader of deadspin. I use Chrome with adblock, so the autoplay ads with sound never affected me, but I can obviously see why the staff would speak up on behalf of their readers. It seems to me if the new ownership group told the staff to "stick to sports"... they bought a very popular sports blog without understanding that it was only ever very loosely related to sports. Some really good writers lost jobs, and that's a shame. Hope they catch on somewhere quick, which I'm sure they will. I loved the "I met 3 good dogs" blog post, which caught almost 1000 replies in the first few hours. Tom Ley is just TRYING to get fired at this point.
  17. My personal thought is "I don't care" If it's the ball and glove with a bit of a different blue, I don't care. If the M and B are attached or not attached, I don't care. as long as the logo says "Brewers" and it's not a mish-mash of ugly colors that don't go together, I'm not going to get up in arms about it.
  18. If he gets to 1100 or 1200 yards rushing, and has seven or eight hundred yards receiving, and gets close to 20 total touchdowns, he'll receive some votes. As others have said, being on the same team as Rodgers is going to take away from his total. I think sharing the featured back role is also going to hinder him. I also think once Adams gets back and gets more of a featured role in the offense Jones won't be getting as many touches in the air. None of which is to say Jones hasn't been everything the Packers have needed him to be this year, just that I don't think he's an MVP candidate based on what I think the voters look at.
  19. I think Jones is doing, like I said, everything the Packers ask of him and then some. I think if he were doing a bit more of the featured back role, he'd be a bit more prominent nationally. By that same token oh, I'd rather see him share the load and be a bit more fresh come playoff time
  20. At this point Jones is on pace for less than 1000 yards rushing and about 700 yards receiving. He's having a really good season, but nowhere near an MVP caliber season. I don't think he's in the top 10 at this point. He's doing everything the Packers need him to do, and then some, but he's not one of the top 10 vote getters at this point.
  21. Former players are tweeting about it because they lost to Illinois last week. Nobody had anything to say when they were waltzing all over Michigan and Michigan State. When Gary Anderson was in town and his first year the Badgers were throwing 25+ times a game and running 4 receiver sets the whole state was in an uproar saying "THIS ISN'T WISCONSIN FOOTBAW!" and now the Badgers lose 2 games in a row, and the battle cry is "We can't just keep playing Wisconsin football" Again, ABSOLUTELY NOBODY is saying that the playcalling can't and shouldn't be more creative and diverse. Ohio State's passing game didn't even put up huge numbers Saturday. They did run wild on the Badgers though. Owning the trenches on both sides of the ball will do that.
  22. Man would I love watching these two teams face off again in early February. Rodgers vs Mahomes on a neutral field for all the marbles would be fun to watch.
  23. Not without issues, but they're 7 - 1. You're not 7 - 1 if you're not a contender.
  24. I was lead to believe KC would have 600 yards and 40+ points by now. I am disappoint.
