that’s exactly what he is The problem is, with the exception of Woodruff, that pretty much describes four of our starters. That level of inconsistency is what prevents this team from going on an extended winning streak. I'm not arguing against that. I'm simply countering the argument that Davies is terrible. He's basically being asked to be the de facto Ace right now, which he isn't. He's a decent back of the rotation starter he's not terrible he doesn't suck. He's a guy that will go out there every five days and give you five or six Innings maybe and usually hold the other team to two or three runs.

Davies isn't terrible, but he's been asked to be the anchor of a staff because of injuries and so many other guys underperforming. He is what he is, he's an inconsistent guy who's probably a number four.

Cubs sign Craig Kimbrel (3 years / $43 million)

Touched on this in the game thread last night, but it bears mentioning here. Last night was the perfect example of why Kimbrel just isn't/wasn't a good fit for the Brewers. 2 outs in the 8th with tying run in scoring position and a 1.000 OPS hitter up, and Maddon couldn't/wouldn't bring in his best reliever. Is that not the time of the game to bring in "your guy"? Well, you can't, because Kimbrel is strictly a 3 out, 9th inning closer. Kimbrel doesn't do 4 out closes, and because of it, the Brewers tied the game off of an inferior reliever. Granted, the Cubs still ended up with a save situation for Kimbrel, and he blew it anyways, but the lack of flexibility in his role is exactly why I never wanted the guy to begin with. -
He's not a fit for the Brewers pen. He only pitches in the 9th, and he won't/can't pitch in any other inning other than in 3 out save opportunities. That's not how the Brewers pen is managed.

Cubs didn't/couldn't use Kimbrel in the 8th when they needed to protect a one run lead and he blew the lead in the 10th. Let's savor this one.

I like Gamel, I'm glad he's on the team, and he's pretty ok for a 4th OF. I'd like it if he hit for a little more power, even socked a few more doubles or whatever, but he's alright for what he is. He plays good D, is a good defensive replacement and is a decent LH pinch hitter. I don't think anyone should be clamoring for the guy to be starting in the corner outfield though. -
That seems reasonable. That kind of process has no place here. Also, Im guessing if you have a toddler, a large bag with diapers and stuff is going to be considered a diaper bag. But as you say. Cross that bridge when in Rome. Make like a tree.... Or something like that.

You'll be exempt from the bag issue with the stroller and toddler. I've seen many people on twitter complaining that they wont be able to bring in diaper bags for their babies/toddlers now, and yet the new policy clearly states that diaper bags are allowable and exempt. People a) dont read and b) like to complain.

I'm not against getting Story. I'm against selling a bunch of our top 10 prospects to get a guy who isn't an 800 OPS guy outside of Coors field, and is probably a 3 WAR guy if he's not a Rockie. I dont want to sell the farm for a guy who's value is inflated because he's a Rockie.

Just to point it out, Trevor Story hits .761 OPS away from Coors for his career. I'm not sure selling the farm for a .750-ish OPS shortstop is the right move.

Expectations can mean a lot of different things to different people. I had no expectations that Jeffrey Hammonds would produce in Milwaukee, so to me, that was not failed expectations. I remember in 1983 when the Brewers traded my all time favorite player (Gorman Thomas) early in the season. 8 year old me was devastated. Crushed. How could they do this? I knew Gorman was off to a tough start to the 83 season, but the guy they were getting back better be AWESOME!!!! Rick Manning? A slap hitting reserve outfielder? Oh man, this guy BETTER BE GOOD. He was not. My expectations were NOT MET. So that, to me, is a failed expectation. On a more serious note..... For some reason I thought Steve Woodard would become a solid #3 type guy. I guess I was way too enamored with that amazing duel with Roger Clemens. Franklin Stubbs was an epic failure. After hitting 25 homers and having 95 RBI in the juiced ball 1987 in his 2nd season, Dale Sveum was never again even close to average, which was really disappointing. I don't think he was every a big prospect, but certainly that 87 looked like somewhat of a breakout. Billy Jo Robideaux is probably one of the most infamous Brewers flameouts (see my avatar) I don't really view guys like Rickie Weeks or BJ Surhoff as failed expectations. Even for top draft picks it's hard to get to the big leagues and stick. If you get there, and stay for 10+ years and are a productive player on some decent teams, you're accomplishing something. For some reason Surhoff was always one of those guys I rooted hard for. -
Man, watching the postgame show, is it too much to ask that someone (producer, director, Sophia, SOMEONE) from FS talk to Jerry about how to pronounce some of these Latin player's names? These guys have all been with the team a while. Also..... Great win! :D

There were guys wanting to DFA the guy after literally 12 at bats. I'm not saying Saladino should be starting, or even necessarily that he's a good player, but man, baseball is just such a weird game. You put out a sunday lineup one day and score 7 runs with Yelich and Grandal on the bench. Saladino comes through. Saladino was pretty decent last year. .700 OPS guy and versatile with some pop. He wasn't going to continue to be a .200 OPS guy.
