  1. I don't know, I guess I just appreciate it for what it was and what it is... Bill and ba appreciating to get to spend some time with a Legend. That Yelich happened to hit a bases-clearing triple when Brian turned on his camera is icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned. I'm a cynical as they come and I think it's just a cool moment.
  2. That’s freaking awesome I luvit, but a part of me is skeptically squinting at the almost choreographed "nature" of it all... Yeah they planned to have Bob up there during a bases clearing triple.
  3. I absolutely would be ecstatic to see them make a one-game playoff, I think the guys absolutely deserve a celebration of making the playoffs, and not much else to say. I know one out of three teams make the playoffs every year but it just seems like such a Monumental Hill for us to climb.
  4. This has been a fantastic playoff Chase, say what you will about the one-game playoff. The AL race has been all but over for a month or more. The NL features meaningful games for five teams going down to the wire, and you really can't ask for more than that.
  5. The Phillies are just done right now. Take that score with a grain of salt. Mostly the point being if CO wins and the Brewers hang on, the cards will drop out of the wc2 spot.
  6. https://deadspin.com/sloppy-wrigley-bleacher-fight-features-one-heroic-peace-1829295719 Cubs arent doing well on deadspin lately.
  7. Trout was mvp in 2016 for a 74 win team.
  8. Im really torn. I want them to sweep the cards, but I'm going to the game Saturday and I would love for that to be a clinch game. Part of me, in fact most of me, wants the drama out of the way as soon as possible though
  9. Pure speculation, but I'm fearing a Julio Machado type situation. Hope I'm wrong. Right down to the prosecuter's car being set on fire?
  10. Cards playoff odds took a big hit, down to 72.3%, as they're now only a 1/2 game ahead of Colorado. Doesn't help that the Cards schedule is pretty rough for the rest of the season, playing the Brewers and then the Cubs, and they all stand to be pretty meaningful games.
  11. Phew. The big takeaway here (and obviously, I think) is that even losing the next two now, is the Brewers leave St. Louis, no matter what, with the WC lead, and they go home to play Detroit, who has nothing to play for, and has an absolutely gutted roster.
  12. Stanton won the mvp just last yearr for a team that won 77 games...
  13. I always find this argument interesting. Not necessarily wrong, but definitely interesting. There's only so much a player can do in baseball. You only bat one out of every 9 times in the order, you can only field balls that are hit into your area. If you're the CF, you can't field balls on the infield, or hit down either line, etc, etc. If you hit leadoff, you can't bat in the 2nd inning if your spot doesn't come up again, there are simply many many many events and outcomes in a game that a baseball player absolutely has zero impact on. By this reasoning (which many people use), a player on the Marlins, Orioles, Tigers, Royals, etc, etc, etc, etc, or basically ANY team not playing in the playoffs is more or less exempt from winning the MVP, which I disagree with. If a team won 75 games, wasn't that player valuable in assisting towards those 75 wins? Why is the definition of "most valuable" only defining valuable in the terms of teams that are playing in playoff scenarios? Not being snarky, just asking a serious question, because a LOT of people use that benchmark for what constitutes an MVP.
  14. Back in the 80's when I was a wee lad, I bled Green and Gold. In the 90's, when I was a 20-something, I was ALL IN all the time. I watched every pre-season game to the final down, I paid attention to every roster cut. I listened to the post game show and listened for three hours........ I was ALL IN, just couldn't get enough. Now, I don't watch a down of pre-season football. Haven't for 3-4 years now, if not longer. Last year I watched about 4-5 Packer games, and not a single down of non-Packer NFL football. I don't know..... the NFL has changed, and I just don't care for the product anymore. I'm not a "spoiled" Packer fan. I loved the hell out of this team when they were losers. I watched every game the year they went 4-12 under Favre. This just isn't football the way I, and i'm sure some others grew up watching it. I absolutely am for player safety. I understand sports change, and I get that, and I'm ok with that (and embrace it!), but this version of football just isn't one that I embrace, or honestly even care all that much about. That's ok, and I'm sure there's people that disagree with me and that's ok too. (DISCLAIMER: My stance has nothing to do with the anthem stuff. My drifting away from the NFL has been going on for way longer than that. Just wanted to be very clear on that before we started going down that road)
  15. That happens multiple times a year at ballparks across the country and everyone gets mad at whatever fan (usually a kid) that reaches over the fence to get a ball, but the reality is what kid *isn't* going to reach for a ball when it's within their grasp? I mean, after snagging the Jetes fly ball, Jeffrey Maier would have been called less terrible things if he had run a school bus full of pre-K kids off the road into a ravine full of pihrannas. Accept that it happens and call interference when it does, or just put the first row of seats 4 feet higher.
  16. Guess that juvenile delinquent didn't cost us a run after all.
  17. Not only did it not make sense for the A's to spend money for the sake of spending money, the A's are probably one of the best teams in baseball precisely because they have a knack for recognizing market inequities and didn't spend money on aging and ineffective "name" players like Cobb, who has been brutally awful for the Orioles this year. Darvish has been hurt and bad. Cozart has been hurt and bad. Eric Hosmer has been (predictably) mediocre JD Martinez and Lorenzo Cain have both been really really good. Jay Bruce....wow, has a -.4 WAR this year. He could be replaced by anyone. Literally anyone, and the team would be better off for it. If they're going to say that teams are underspending.....this isn't the year to make the argument. This was a brutal free agent class, and the results have been savage, as expected. The argument rather should be that players should be paid earlier in their careers (and I think we've been leaning and trending that way for a while now, haven't we?)
